Chasing Dollar Signs Started by: Luna on Feb 20, '22 14:57

Luna was promised when she was younger that she would have a bright future, plenty of riches and a loving family to nurture. But that took effort, and Luna didn't put any of it in during her teen years. Now in her late twenties, she's manic, alcoholic and a pill popper. She started off in a wealthy family with connections in the underground world. As a child, the four walls she locked herself in while her daddy's visitors came could only block out so much noise. She would overhear the conversations they had with her dad. "Pay up, or this could be the last time you see your family." It was a stressful time and she was only 7.

As she got older, she became rebellious and started to seek comfort in spending as much money as she possibly could. Her parents later passed and everything was handed down to her. Bank accounts drained in less than a month. Sold the house. Moved in with some mates, but there had been a falling out so she was all alone on the streets now. After months of wandering around, she came across a job ad that changed her life forever.

With a little motivation to attend a substance abuse program to sober up, she redefined herself and began to live the life she always dreamed of. It was hard at first to prove herself, but she was getting into a routine now. 5:30 am wake-up, have breakfast down at the local cafe and then plan out her day in her daily planner. However, despite making good progress in her life - addiction wasn't something that could be cured over night. Every day was a battle. But she tried to focus her energy on other things that mattered more.

Like saving up for a new car. Her current piece of shit was good for getting from point A to B, but she wished she could at least drive in luxury. And also her living situation wasn't that great either, but at least the rent wasn't too much. She lived upstairs of a pub and earplugs were definitely her bestfriend. One morning she was coming down from her little room and accidentally bumped into a man who suddenly went off at her for pushing into him. Luna rolled her eyes and kept on walking straight ahead. Anyways, today was going to be a good day, she thought to herself.

She was going to get her usual bagel, strong black coffee, then slay the day as always. One of the things she had been trying to do the past few days since joining her new crew was getting to know the family members. Yakuza, her sponsor, he was actually a childhood friend. Luna was surprised to meet him especially in the mafia, she remembered like it was yesterday that they were heading to church when she was younger. Yakuza may have been a choir boy... she would have to confirm that next time she saw him. Luna peacefully ate her bagel in the cafe and tried to list her tasks in order of priority level.

There was going to be a new shipment of drugs that the crew needed to get their hands on ASAP. Luna put that at the top of her list. She didn't really know who she was going to assist on this drug pick up. But she would meet that person at the docks later this afternoon around 3. She made sure to bring a weapon with her, in case anything bad might happen. Luna had to learn that the hard way. Last time she almost let someone blow her head off. That was a story for another day.

The pick up wasn't until 3 in the PM though, so she listed down other tasks that she could complete before then. Apparently she was going to get introduced to some people that could help her out with her living situation, but nothing was ever free in this world. She knew there were some conditions she needed to satisfy. "You complete a big job for us once a week - whether that is robbing a museum's most prized possessions or taking away a prominent mob boss' riches." Luna sat in the man's office, his voice thick with an Italian accent. Luna gave a single nod. "Whatever it takes for me to get out of my shithole place." She said it with confidence, but in reality she was scared shitless. She had only been doing small petty crimes for a while, she wasn't ready for the big heists yet.

But hey, she lived for the challenge. Luna walked out of his office feeling a million dollars richer. Everything seemed to be going okay now. She was going to get out of her old, cramped room. Soon enough, the time for the pick up was coming nearer so she refreshed her appearance in the bathroom of a gas station. Red lipstick was a killer. She smiled softly, and played with her hair for a few minutes before heading to her car.

When she arrived at the docks, there was one small problem. Her 'partner-in-crime' for the task was nowhere to be seen. Luna panicked as there was only a few minutes before she would have to face a bunch of notorious mafia members. She had never even done a drug pick up before, let alone doing it by HERSELF! Luna was in an angry rage.

But she couldn't just stand there and keep feeling sorry for herself. Luna shook herself back to reality and tried to remember all the important things that her sponsor taught her. She would have to check the quality of the shipment, which she was informed they would let her do. There would also be some paperwork to sign. And then the money handover. Luna was okay with that. It seemed easy enough, but she had to be prepared for anything that might happen. Before she could even continue to overthink the situation, they finally arrived and pulled up to the docks with a large carton of cocaine. A man dressed in all black eyed her up and down before guiding her attention to the drugs.

"Do what you need to do. Where is our money?"

It turned out that Luna had been stressing over literally nothing. The drug deal went smoothly and Luna arrived back at the headquarters unharmed with cartons of top quality cocaine. She suddenly heard news of her sponsor passing, she was distraught over it as she had been so happy to see him again after so long and now she was all alone again. Well, not exactly. She still had her crew and her job working for them, but this time no one would be holding her hand.

Instead of staying back at the headquarters and drowning in grief, she decided to pay a visit at the bar few minutes away from the HQ. The bar had been around for years apparently - so she saw a lot of old-timers. She walked up to the bar and asked for a vodka orange juice, which earned her a polite nod and smile from the bartender. She zoned out for a quick second before a stranger tapped her shoulder, trying to gain her attention.

She turned to the side and met eyes with a gorgeous woman. She seemed to be at the bar by herself too. Maybe they would bond over that. Luna smiled, a sort of twinkle in her eye and said something first.

"Hi, can I help you?" The woman replied shortly, "hi, no no... I'm fine. I guess I just wanted to see what a beautiful woman like you are doing here all alone." There was too much kindness being shared between the two of them and Luna shook her head, laughing sweetly. "You're so thoughtful! But seriously, I could say the same for you right now. Where are you from?" And just like that, the two ladies carried on the conversation for the rest of the night and before Luna realised the time it was already three in the morning. They shared each other's contact details. Luna kissed her cheek goodbye and she did the same. Back home, Luna collapsed into her soft warm bed, without even changing into her comfy clothes she had already begun to snooze.

In the morning, the warm sun greeted her skin gracefully. She woke up, smiling softly at herself as she stretched out her body. "Uuugh," Luna groaned quietly as she forcefully got out of bed.

Another day, more money to make. Luna headed out after making a quick change and brushing her teeth. She waved hello to her neighbour on the way to her car, then suddenly remembered she needed to make a quick stop at a friends house to pick up some weed. She was doing better at not smoking too much of it, but sometimes she really just needed to relax. Her friend's house was not too far away from hers, which was good because she didn't want to be late coming into work. After picking up, Luna finally made her way to the HQ. She said hello to Freyja, her boss and the best crew leader ever.

Luna went about her day, feeling great and knowing she had secured a spot in an amazing family where everyone was so welcoming and kind.
