I think De Niro is a better actor. However, Pacino has been in more movies that I like, so it's a tossup |

Pacino definitely. He basically started the gangster movies. Think about it, he was the one in all of the major movies that really put gangster stuff on the map. Scarface and The Godfather movies were the main two to come to my head. |

But DeNiro wouldn't have been able to do his movies had Pacino not done his. Pacino put gangster movies on the map. If he hadn't done the Godfather movies, then you wouldn't have Casino or Goodfellas or anything of the sort. |

The Godfather is the one who started the gangster genre. It would be the same if Michael Corleone was played by a different actor. Al Pacino didn't make the movie, nor did he write the book so he didn't start the genre. |

The movie had to be well acted for anyone to like it and Pacino was and still would be the best choice for the movie. End of story. And if you didn't know, DeNiro was in the second Godfather movie. He played the adult Vito trying to make his way up in the mafia world. He is a good actor. I like a lot of his movies, but in my opinion, Pacino is and will always be the better actor. |

Exactly agree with Mr Morrison. This`s what i was trying to say. Raging bull, taxi driver etc are just 'good' movies. Even if Leonardo Di Caprio acted , you still would like those movies but for example Insomnia is great movie just because Pacino had acted 'perfect'. We are not discussing about the movies, but actors. |
