The Smoking Corner - A Conversation Started by: SammySoul on Apr 01, '22 18:40

The bottle he kept in his desk slowly dwindled until only a few drops remained. Sitting behind his desk, Don Soul dragged his finger slowly down the margins of his family ledger. “Another error…” he murmured, confused by the phantom error that plagued him.

A knock at the door sent a jolt down his spine causing his leather executive chair to send him falling into what felt like an empty abyss before he suddenly stopped. Standing and kicking his chair across the room a rage filled Sammy barely even realized he was cursing when his bar manager came in.

“Don Soul, there is someone here from Sicily to see you.” Lenny said before slipping out of the door frame like a field mouse wedging itself behind a cupboard. With a now calm demeanor, Don Soul sat back in his chair and rubbed his temples. “Make him wait, Lenny. I need a minute to unwind.”

Once the door latched shut, Sammy slipped out of the side door to his office and escaped into the alley where his car was parked. Skipping the joy ride, he decided to go for a stroll. Finding his usually smoke spot, he chatted with some fellow members of this thing of ours.

“Man… somedays this thing of ours just feels so repetitive. Don’t get me wrong, I love what I do and all the people I have met along the way. But does anyone else ever wonder what keeps us living this life? Is it the money, the power, or just who we are?” he stopped to light his cigar and see who decided to chime in.

Enzo appeared from the shadows with his cig lit already. Takes a big drag from it and blows it down away from Sammy. Enzo looked at Sammy with a grin. "Depends on the person boss. For me, it was you bringing me back to life after farting around. When you gave me the nod it was like my life was full of purpose again. Now I live for my crew. They are some of the hardest workers I have met. Sure I am slow to do anything, but I have every one of my members back. I think it is hard for someone who has everything to see what they have in front of them. It isn't the power or the money you have, it is the people, boss. Everyone that you have surrounded yourself with means something to you. I worked for you for the longest time and then after that, I work for you on another level. " Placed his hand on the shoulder of his Godfather, and patted him as we waited for his response.

Franklin calmly approached The Don and Enzo. Greeting them with the upmost respect, a cheek kiss on both sides. Franklin playfully grabbed Enzo by the shoulder, "That an extra cigar in your pocket or you just happy to see me?",  He joked.

"Yeah, I got some iron in there for ya wise ass.", Sighed Enzo.

Franklin playfully nudged Enzo again and he pulled out a half smoked cigar from the inside of his jacket pocket.  Lit it, pulling in a few deep drags. He then exhaled with no regard for human life around him, the area was completely filled with smoke. Everyone except Franklin began to cough uncontrollably.

"No wonder they call this fuck the fumigator" thought Enzo.

Franklin then began to join the conversation without a care in the world.

"You know...I see your point Enzo, but you know you what I think? Of course you always remember your oath and your loyalty to your crew but what keeps me living is knowing that I have the power to do so many things. Truly so blessed. If I wanted to get that whore on 55th street to snort a line of coke off my third leg I could, if it wanted to buy that new suit from Vincenzo's, I could. Knowing that I have that power, my crew and the guessing game of what could happen next..."
