A moonlight lark. Started by: ThatRoperFella on Jun 04, '22 23:05

Roper pulled up in his rented Buick Skylark, It felt rich for his blood but he needed to be able to blend in with the street. He used a fake ID and drivers licence, making sure that neither of them came back to him.

He turned the engine key and the engine purred off, he waited for @Infana to show. She was late again, Roper didn't quiet know what she does at night but it felt like a start of a habit. He must have waited 10 or more minutes before Infana rounded the corner. It was dark, She was hard to make out amongst the night, Only her glimmering silver her in the moonlight gave her away.

Roper opened the car door for her and gave a short curt “In”. As Infana climbed inside the car roper gave her a quick chide “30 minutes again Miss Infana, I'd say that this was becoming a habbit” Roper gave her a glance up and down “At least you've dressed for an occasion”

Roper turned the engine key again, the car began to roar back to life, the destination wasn't so far away. He put the car into Drive and began their journey. “So, I did a precursory case before I called you here, It's a pretty ritzy area. I didn't see any outside security but the place has high walls, the owner looks loaded which is even more questionable why they ain't paying the boss” Roper explained.

The car drove past perfectly manicured lawns, pink flamigos onto a road with large but walled houses, each one with elaborate gates. The sidewalks were adorned with trees down each side, lights could be seen on in various windows. Roper parked a few houses short of their target, he looked at Infana who looked at him, he pulled a face at her.

“We're going to get seen a mile away with hair like yours” Roper mulled on a couple thoughts for a second before removing his flat cap and placing it on Infana's head. “Tuck the rest of your hair into your shirt and get ready to go”

Infana was running late even though she woke up on time she sighed. Thinking to herself that Roper probably thought she was incompetant about her work. She hurried off throwing on her jacket hair neatly brushed and wearing a black sweater and pants. She took off running down the road in the dark as she saw a car sitting there where she was told to meet. So she hurried over giving her to quick in motion by the door opening she slid in. She breathed and looked at him as he commented about her lateness in showing up.

"Sorry, I thought I would be here on time. Hmm... Ritzy. Well boss will get the payment either way yes?"

When they pulled up she was looking out the window eyeing the place, before turning hearing him speak about her silver hair and how noticible she would get them spotted before he put the cap on her. She puffed her cheeks out but she wasnt going to argue. She took off the cap flipped her hair over her head and stuffed it into the cap as she almost looked like a boy now with the outfit she was wearing.

"Ready when you are sir."

She stared at him with a readiness in her silvery gray eyes.

They both slid out of the car. "Don't call me sir, It makes me feel old" Roper remarked back at her as he examined the walls. They were about 7ft tall, there didn't seem to be any barbwire on top, but that didn't mean there wasn't any glass at the top. He had learned that the hard way from his youth.

Roper looked at @Infana, She looked boyish with her short thin statue and the cap covering her hair but it gave him an idea. "I'm going to boost you over the wall, check first before scrambling over. Don't see any barbed wire but that doesn't mean they're not dickish enough not to use glass. If you can to the gate, Pick it open for me. Think you can handle that?"

She nodded at him and he cupped his hands together. She placed her shoe on his foot and then the next one on his shoulder and within a moment she scrambled on top of the wall, a couple of seconds later he could hear the sound of her landing on the other side of the wall.

Roper made his way towards the gate, hoping Infana could work some magic.

Infana had thoughts running through her head after she smirked knowing how to get at him in a teasing way at her mentor Roper. She nodded understanding the assignment she used his hands  and shoulder to get up onto the wall. When she found no sign of a obstical she jumped down the wall landing in the grass and fixing the hat she quickly hurried over to the gate. Making sure no one was near she pulled her small kit from her pocket she had from before she was recruited and got to work on the lock.

In a matter of seconds she heard a click on the lock hearing it was unlocked making sure she wasnt going to be snuck up on as she slipped the kit back in her pocket while awaiting Roper to enter the gate. She looked around wondering how much this guy actually had. Who knows at this point but he seemed to live in a pretty cushy place.

Once Roper made it through she would ask. "Where am I headed? And where do you want to meet when the job is done?" She was quiet with her words.

Roper was glad to see Infana on the other side of the gate, He also raised an eyebrow at the piece of kit she used. He didn't expect to see something so professional from her. He closed the gate behind them and took a precursory glance around him, no sign of life so far. The dark though had ways of making out figures that weren't there.

"Right" Roper pulled out something from his jacket pocket "This is a two-part job. One of us needs to head to the owner's bedroom and place this necklace and letter from the boss where the mark can very clearly see them." Roper jingled the necklace to emphasise the point "The second part is, the boss wants to check his books and ledgers. Probably stored in the safe, We believe he's had dirty dealings with others as well. So anything we can potentially use as blackmail is gold"

He handed the necklace and letter to @Infana "You're on bedroom duty, I'll take the safe. The bedroom should be on the top floor towards the right. The safe itself is stored in the basement, If everything goes great. I'll meet you by the car if things go up shit creek. There is a bar near here called The Last Chance, Meet me there"

He watched Infana pocket the items "Understood?"

She listened to the gate quietly shut behind Roper as she looked around in silence. Once he started speaking about what they needed to accomplish she turned to face him as he pulled something from his pocket. Seeing him jingle the necklace she gave a small nod. "Got it"

Infana didnt seem so thrilled about having the bedroom task of placing the necklace but she wasnt going to ignore her directions. So she pocketed what she would needed to get through her task and looked towards the building. "Sounds good, I will see you soon."

She wasnt one for goodbyes and she would rather see you again soon and all even if there was a chance of something going wrong. She was fond of her mentor so she wanted to be sure she did her job properly. She waited for a moment encase he had something else to say before making her way off towards the bedroom quietly slippng through the hallways and poking her head through doors till she found the bedroom.

Infana was a little surprised at the vacancy of the room, no one at the desk... no one in bed. So she decided to quickly slip in without a sound. Walking over to the desk. She saw some files and books but none of the importance. She let out a breath thinking this would be easy. Hopeing that Roper had not run into any trouble as of yet as she got ready to place the items on the desk there was a creak... She jumped shoved the items back in her pockets and slipped behind the curtains that were drawn behind the desk and stood in silence hoping the sound of the door was just down the hall and not to the room she was in.

Roper made his way to the windows and started testing the locks. He hoped that the owner had been sloppy and left one one unlocked, He tried a few and with a stroke of luck. One of them slid open. "Jackpot," Roper thought to himself, Both he and Infana climbed inside. He nodded at her as she made her way towards the bedroom. He had a separate job of hitting the places safe and he had paid good information from one of the low wage schmucks here that it was in the bottom.

The place was dark. Roper slowly edged his way down the hallways, Opening doors here and there. Looking for the one down to the basement, He found the dining room, drawing room, and several bedrooms before finding the door leading down into the basement. The stairs descended into pitch black darkness.

Roper retrieved a torch from his jacket and flipped it on and gradually made his way down the stairs. It was your standard Cellar fit with one of them new-fangled boilers. Breaker boards and a couple of items covered in white sheets seemingly placed in storage, he couldn't see any open safe. Then it would strike him as suspicious as he did.

He checked behind some white sheets and scanned the walls. Until he noticed that a wardrobe at the back was still uncovered, He opened the doors and found nothing. He thought for a bit, Something about the wardrobe seemed off. He knocked on the back wall a few times, and one of the knocks sounded hollow. Roper raised an eyebrow.

Was there a catch? A way to release. He checked for little buttons, switches anything. His hand brushed something and there was a click and part of the back board came loose, he removed it to reveal a safe behind it. Roper smiled to himself, placed his torch on the floor and pulled out a stethoscope. It was going to take him a little while to crack.

He hoped Infana was having an easier job than he was.
