Tales of a Ghost Started by: Melis on Aug 22, '22 19:08

A few strands of long, dark hair blew in the wind. They had escaped from under the hood Melis was wearing that night. To blend in with darkness surrounding her, she wore long sleeve black sweater with a hood, dark pants and some dark shoes. It was middle of the summer and the heat was starting to bear down on her as she had been up all night doing surveillance.

The local dairy farmer was delivering the milk this morning. Melis had spent a lot of time prepping and training a young lad to infiltrate the farm and learn which package would be delivered today. She was in no mood to get her hands dirty but her target needed to die. Slipping her trainee a vial of poison, she waited to ensure that it was in fact delivered. The target always drank milk after it was delivered, true to word, she could see them opening up the bottle. There was no fear that anyone else would be hurt as they lived alone.

Giving it about five minutes, she could see the man collapsed. Walking swiftly, she slipped down the park trail and made her way home. Sure that her job had been completed, she wasted no time and fell asleep. Waking only when the evening news was delivered by the paper boy. Looking through the obituaries she could see the name of her target. Died of a heart attack.

Another hot day, and Melis had her feet up. Today was a quiet day, no targets and no real plans for business. It was technically a day off but it only made the young woman restless. Her fingers twirled in her hair, creating little ringlets as she read up on recent news reports. It covered the mundane sales that she had heard about on her weekly travels, men seeking mothers after being widowed and the crimes. It was always the crimes that intrigued her the most.

Young as she appeared, Melis grew up in a pretty violent household. When she came into this business, she was adamant about not having to be face to face with anyone. Her preference was to use poison but if she couldn't get her hands on that, she was not above other methods. This got her the nickname The Ghost.

Once finished with the paper she burnt it and headed out the door. Her shoes barely made any sound as she walked, she was always used to walking in the forest and it paid well to not make a sound that would alert the enemy. As she walked, she came across the railroad that Valinor was building. Traveling up to a high point, she sat and watched the building process for hours, unnoticed. Just as quietly as she came, she left.
