Land of Opportunity Started by: Justice on Aug 27, '22 21:18

Justice had been busy. His new HQ was looking shiny, with fabulous hammers and scales everywhere. He had even erected a large statue of Lady Justice in the entrance hall. Lady Justice was what he called his wife. She hadn't been to see it yet, she was still busy going over another case with Greg. God she was such a hard worker, Justice had picked a good ambitious lady to match his own desires. After hammering the last nail, Justice decided to take a walk around the city to familiarise himself with the surroundings. The hustle and bustle of the streets filled him with pride, and he noticed several flourishing businesses that seemed to be doing rather well for themselves. I got to get me a cut of that he thought to himself. Always on the lookout to make some easy money. He had even considered taxing his own crew members, but decided that might be going a little too far.

He had relished the opportunity to come and work in Detroit, and he wasn't about to let it go to waste. Pulling up his soap box he turned to the streets to announce his new business competition to the world.

Ladies and nefarious scumbag criminals of the world. Detroit needs you! We want the best, legal, businesses to help grow the economy and stimulate growth. We offer fantastic benefits including tax breaks and a free try at banging the gavel. So it is with great pride I announce the Detroit Better Business District Drive. I am giving you the people the chance to come to me with business plans for my great city. The best entry will receive 10 credits, second place 5, and 3rd place can get fucked cos I am not a bank and the law doesn't pay well. So let me hear your business plans, and lets see if we can't get you turning over $0 a year, as businesses don't seem to charge anything here.

With that he stood back, waiting for a good idea he might be able to steal

Foo listened intently to the speech by Justice. Business ideas came to her like a bear to honey. She had begun drafting a proposal but had a few questions for Don Justice.

“Excuse me sir” began Foo, “I am wondering when the deadline is for submission of the business plans. I do not remember hearing it in your speech but my mind was racing with ideas, so I may have missed it as well. Also, we we to hold off construction of the business until after the competition and send you the plans only. Or shall we begin construction as well?”

Foo continued going over the plans in her head while she awaited Justice’s response.

After a long period of standing around kick rocks, Justice finally had someone interested in his competition. Better late than never. Well it would be good if it was never as then he could keep the prize money to himself. But I promise was a promise.

Thank you for your interest LittleBunnyFooFoo! I'll be honest, when  I came up with this idea I was still on a dopamine rush from having been given a district to play with. Little thought went into it. It was action! Now! However I will now come up with rules on the fly. A week from today the event will close. Entrants are to set up their businesses in the fine city of Detroit. The business with the best idea (in my opinion of course, I am a Judge) will win 10 credits. The business with the most interactions will also win 10 credits. DOUBLE PRIZE MONEY BABY.

His recent auth had obviously gone to his head. His position may have gone up, but his pay hadn't. Oh well. He'd recoup it at the casino, which is completely legal and in no way has any ties to any mafia activity.

"Ah honourable judge Justice, it's good to see you have a thirst for profitable enterprises! After the massacre of Detroit it delights me to see that the city is filled anew with an energetic spirit (and that the Mug City rules have stayed in-tact in honour of the JFMAST)."

Void was rubbing his hands together from excitement in anticipation of disclosing his idea, but as he was about to do so he heard Justice disclose a new ruleset.

"I was about to spill the beans on my idea here (being under the impression that that was that we were supposed to do for this competition), but in light of the new rules I will contain my excitement for just a bit longer then while I make the arrangements for opening the venue in the business district of Detroit."

"Either way, my vision will take shape soon. The 12th Street Public Toilets shall become accessible once more!"

"I demand that the greatest institution in Detroit  be recognised for the national landmark it is. I demand that I be allowed to enter and win the competition. I demand that Void should be banned from the competition, due to crimes against nature, and a deep love of JFMAST that even now is the inspiration for his own business venture. You once refused to go into those toilets. Now I see it was merely a ruse. You had a key all along. You. Make. Me. Sick."

Hobbs shook his head in disgust at Void.

"Land Hammer Nerd, allow me to tell you exactly why The Detroit Public Library is essential to your Detroit rebuilding plans. The library is a non-criminal, not for profit organisation. It provides access to literary genius, and it provides education. All of these you need in your quest to join the Supreme Court. Why, without this library the rest of your city is horrendous coffee shops and disused used car lots."

Hobbs looked at Justice and opted for flattery

"Justice, you have the most marvellous gavel. All you need do is hammer it on the table and shout some legal boo-hickory and then the 10 credits could be all mine. Do it. Hammer the table."

Hobbs had started off on the wrong foot. To make demands of a Judge? Especially one as esteemed as Justice? It would not do. But Hobbs spent a lot of time in the business district of Detroit, so Justice did need to keep him sweet. Almost as sweet as SassyPeach. But no one could achieve that level of natural sweetness.

The situation between Hobbs and Void was getting heated, as it was always prone to. Justice let them scrap it out before waiting to hear the next contrived reason Hobbs would come up with.

Sighing heavily, he replied to Hobbs.

Hobbs you are right. I do have a marvellous gavel. My wife bought it for me for our 30 year anniversary. Greg helped her pick it out. He's such a good man. Your public library is a great asset to the city of Detroit, and home to much knowledge and literature. However where do I draw the line? There are businesses in my district that stretch all the way back 12 years. Do I let any shmuck come in and lazily put their efforts from whenever into the competition? NO he bangs his gavel, he loves doing that

This competition is intended to drive new blood to set up shop and lead Detroit to become the biggest bustling better business bonanza it is destined to be. You can join like everyone else with a new business, but alas the library will not be considered.

Justice was depressed. Only two entrants had come to Detroit to set up shop, and one of them was Void. That was not much extra tax money for him to buff his coffers with. No wonder people turned to crime in these trying times.

Well as a man of my word, I believe the winners of this little competition are Void for the best idea, and D0m3n1c for most interactions. Money will be sent as soon as I reach the bank.

But I will add that anyone is welcome to come and set up shop here in Detroit. We are a friendly bunch and like to hang around our local businesses. Also if you're visiting make sure to boost our local economy by spending a few dollars here!

And remember kids. SAY NO TO CRIME!

Justice walked off grumbling at the thought of having to pay Void.
