Ingrid was well known all throughout her lands for her outstandingly ravishing looks. Her parents fittingly gifted her with a Norse name at birth that quite literally translates to 'beauty'. Her looks became her personality quite quickly and with her stunning looks came a nasty attitude to follow. Although she was so beautiful that men fell at her feet as the years passed, she had made an ill reputation amongst her feminine peers. Marriage offers came in left and right, however none of them were ever good enough for her. She had turned up her nose at every man and woman whom looked her way with a snort of disdain at their inferiority. Ingrid held herself at such a high esteem that only the men who floundered for her hand in marriage could stand to be around her. 

One day she had come across the opportunity to make a deal with a witch who inhabited the shadows at night. The witch had noticed this woman was constantly alone, and decided to prey upon her weakness. Ingrid had begged the witch to enchant her beauty even further. She wished to become quite seriously the most beautiful woman to walk the earth. The witch all too greedily accepted her appeals. Ingrid was beside herself with joy; she would never stand in competition with those waifs that walk among the same earth as her again. 

With a nod, the witch had vanished into the shadows once more. A blinding white light struck Ingrids eyes and a rumble shook the earth. All went quiet, even the cicadas had nothing to say. As the saying goes 'Somethings are just too good to be true.' 

The witch did indeed grant Ingrid the gift of being single-handedly the most beautiful woman to walk this earth. What the witch did not tell Ingrid was that every time she stopped to admire herself in her reflection whether that be a mirror, a pond, or a shiny surface a piece of flesh would peel from her face. The cost of beauty was to never be able to indulge in self-appreciation again.
