What is the best trilogy? Started by: Hobo_Clown on Feb 22, '23 01:34

I was thinking about this recently and wanted to know what everyone else thinks here. What is the best trilogy of movies that has graced our screens?

Some that come to mind for me - Star Wars Originals & Prequels, Kung Fu Panda, How to Train Your Dragon, John Wick, Lord of the Rings, Godfather but that is debatable, Christopher Nolan Batman Movies. My personal pick has to be Star Wars though

I'm going to count book trilogies because you can read them on screens. Checkmate. :P

I really love the Poppy War trilogy. If anyone's a fan of dark fantasy, I highly recommend it. Some of the best books I've ever read.

There are two almost perfect trilogies, most are let down by at least one movie in the trilogy (Yeah I'm looking at you Godfather) but Back to the Future and Indiana Jones (if you ignore the Crystal Skull) are nigh on perfect. The original Star Wars Trilogy is good as well, as is the George A Romero Living Dead trilogy (Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the dead, and Day of the Dead). Honourable Mentions to Hannibal Lecter Trilogy, the Vengeance Trilogy (Sympathy For Mr. Vengeance, Oldboy and Lady Vengeance) and The Blade Trilogy. Does A Fistful of Dollars, For A Few Dollars More and The Good, The Bad And The Ugly count as a trilogy?

According to IMDB Jhon_Jairo_Velasquez the Good, the Bad and the Ugly does count as a trilogy so there's that haha. Yeah I totally forgot about it. Back to the Future/Blade Trilogy are also great picks

As a horror fan I forgot to mention which makes me sick for forgetting but the Evil Dead movies is a great trilogy as well imo

Must say Lord of the Rings. We havent yet seen all good things the auther written about in that adventure he come up with long time ago. J.R. Tolkien was a genius

So many trilogies are let down by one film... It's hard to think of many that don't have an obvious weak link. Lord of the rings is a clear exception, however, I'd argue they're not a true trilogy, they're more like three parts of one story, than three original stories. But anyway... I can't think of one right now, but the biggest let down third movie in a trilogy has to be Terminator 3, turd of a film!

Back to the future

Indiana Jones. They should not count the last one

 the hangover

For me it has the be Lord of the Rings, it keeps you hooked and i didnt get the feeling i was just being dragged along

I've never seen any of these.  I like the Holy Trinity.

My top three trilogies would be The Godfather, Lord of the Rings, and the first three starwars.  I can recall where I was and what I was doing when I first each of them.

Funny as hell...nobody said The Matrix? Probably a reason for that, but still. I'm surprised nobody here thinks it was near the top.

I notice no one else has listed a video game but I'm going to go ahead and throw out the original 3 mass effect games

I got really excited to talk about my favorite trilogy of books, but then I saw it's movies and I just wanted to express my sadness. I don't even have hustle to do, I just wanted to talk about Mistborn.

I just remembered the god father and lord of the rings when I saw this headline, bother were really amazing, bur I would choose the god father it was closer to my heart.

I personally think its nothing. I  mean theres alot of good trilogys but too many. I cant pick one of them. So i say no trilogy is the best.

It has to be the Lord of the Rings trilogy, if you want to count it as that (as someone already mentioned). Just because it was based on an excellent book does not mean it was a given that the movies would translate into high quality.  Someone tried doing an animated LoTR feature back in the 80's (I think), and it was a stinker.  So the Peter Jackson films should be commended. Not a bad one in the bunch.

I like all trilogies but if I had to pick one then it would be twilight as my son loved watching it also on the weekends with popcorn and pop

The best trilogy ever has to be the godfather. I do have to say the godfather 3 was the weakest of all 3 movies. But 1 and 2 godfather movies are the best ever. It’s just my thought on trilogy
