Being an idiot, one of us stood on their laptop this morning and has subsequently put a dirty great crack in the right hand corner. This has caused a horrible inky black smudge to cover the bottom corner of the screen.

As I am not particularly technical, I was wondering if anyone knew how you could go about replacing laptop screens, whether it was worthwhile to do so or whether I would just be better off buying a new one.

I only got this in December in 2010 and I'm pretty fond of it, so any advice would be appreciated especially as to likely costs, difficulties and suppliers preferably in the UK.

I decided to go to someone more technically savvy than me and ended up paying £108 for the new screen and it to be replaced. At least if they short it I'm not responsible!

Actually, I find that caring for the ribbon cables is the hardest part.

they are so delicate and the slots for them are thin and small.

If you use your thumb and forefinger correctly, with the right movement, you should get plenty of joy that way without damaging anything.

£108 is fair enough as your getting the dude to also fix it.
