The long, silver flashlight felt cold in Scissors’s hand in the cool Chicago night air. She shivers and puts the flashlight underneath her arm while grabbing a pair of black knit gloves from the pockets of her matching long, wool coat. This felt much better and she takes the flashlight back into her now gloved hand. She clicks it on and shines it around a bit looking at the shrubs and trees around her in the grassy area she was standing in. Taking a deep breath, she shines the light up in front of her seeing the biggest building she had ever seen in all her years! Not tall like the buildings in the city but long.

Suddenly, a twig breaks behind her and she darts around reaching her free hand for the throwing knife strapped to her forearm up her coat sleeve. She sighs and stops. “You can get whacked that way ya know Sergio? Whistle or something next time, God Bless!” She says in a hissing whisper to the tall Italian gentleman who was now crouching in the grass with a look of fright. “Mi dispiace, Signora! I will be more careful.” He whispers standing back up and looking up at the building. “Dio mio this place is big! You could throw a heck of a party in here huh?” He chuckles lightly and mimics doing the Tango. “Perhaps…a long time ago maybe or in the future, who knows?”

The pair take a few steps onto the long, rocky driveway of the building and both look up with their flashlights. “Remember to be quiet, this building has people inside and they are working on restoring this beautiful old building to its former glory.” She motions to the guards walking about the outside of the building. “We need to stay back here and keep our distance. Respect for the living who call this place home, and respect for the dead who used to. At least for a time…” Scissors looks wistfully around at the various floors. “The energies and history of this place have drawn me here. So much death and tragedy. It’s seen violence, sorrow, sickness and death, really thick energy. I am SO very happy someone has come in to fix it up and breathe some life into the place again! It’s well overdue and I think the spirits would be happy to see their home no longer falling into disrepair. However, it makes one wonder…” She takes another deep breath and removes the glove from her right hand. She stretches her arm out, closing her light blue eyes and goes silent. She frowns somewhat then shakes her head. “Some do not like or want change, and were not humans ever. Most of them are alright, just lost souls but the darkness. No that has to go, those poor people in there could be in grave danger and not even know it.”

Sergio nods looking nervously around at the hundreds of windows and takes a step backwards. “Best not to piss them off, eh?” He whispers to her, making the sign of the Holy Cross on himself. “Right, any of them. I will need to find a way to get into contact with its current owner to see if they would be open to talking and maybe even a Navajo blessing.” She sighs and looks up at the stars. “Or they could just laugh me right off the phone or out of their office. Wouldn’t be the first time. But it’s definitely worth the effort to try and reach out, Si?” Taking a last look up at Waverly Hills she blows it a kiss goodbye and makes a silent promise to return.
