ok im now running Linux Ubuntu and i was talking to an older friend of mine and we started talking about programing and i was like "well that sounds like fun id like to get into that" and he told me to just look it up on Google so i did but what i got was a bunch of nonsense, so my question here is does anyone here know about programing on Linux Ubuntu?

Linux is an Operating System which is your enviorment.  It knows how to do stuff like copy a file, print a file, connect to another computer.

Lets take a car for example.  A car has built in functionality.  It can drive, it can turn. It might have a radio, it might have bluetooth services.

To program those functions, ( turn car on, turn car off,  calculate how much fuel to burn.  Find any close phones with bluetooth ) you need a way to communicate with the car in a language that it understands.

In a similar way, to access the functions in the operating system, you need to talk to the OS with a language it knows.  these are called programming languages.  For example Java, C, C++, Visual Basic etc.

Each Programming Language has its strong sides and weaker ones.  No all programming languages are supported on every OS. 

I think you need to understand what it is you WANT to do on Linux and then find the right programming language to achive this.
