I know absolutely fucking nothing about Warhammer (40k) besides it involving figurines, sci-fi, something about an angry horde of space marines, an angry horde of orks who go "waaaaaagh" a lot, and it being a pretty expansive universe with a lot of stuff to read up on.

It sounds fun and interesting, it also has a gorillion books. I like books.

The thing is that I have no fucking clue where to even begin with them since there's so many different series. I hear the name "Horus Heresy" thrown around a lot but have no clue if it's a good starting point for the uninitiated.

DO WE HAVE ANY RESIDENT WARHAMMER 40K EXPERTS WHO CAN TELL ME WHAT A GOOD WARHAMMER BOOK TO BEGIN WITH IS. ASSUME I KNOW ABSOLUTELY FUCKING NOTHING.

I have never read any of the books but picked a few up on Audible for listening to while traveling for work. I started with The Black Legion, the voice acting was brilliant, and the plot was ok. Solid 7/10 from me. It was about a group of Chaos space marines (IE Baddies)
