What is in a name! Started by: El_Nino on Sep 24, '11 12:43

El_Niño looks around the streets noticing a number of people who he knows well, others who he only knows by name

As I look around I wonder what is in a name, are the people I see and the names I use the same as on their birth certificate or are they nicknames?

I see a JimmyNapoli and I wonder is Napoli his surname or is he simply Jimmy from Naples?

Was forgottenmelody nick named from her parents because they simply forgot a tune but seeing her reminded them if it?

I know for a fact Rupert is a nickname, he comes from most dignified Dutch blood lines, his full name is Penis Van Lesbian, he obtained the nickname Rupert because when he isn't wearing women's clothes he dresses the same as a certain bear.

I know Jade is so called because of her beautiful green eyes.

Corona is a nickname obtained because whenever he is in a bar he drinks Corona. Heineken for a similar reason.

Chuckle is rumoured to be a nickname given to him by godfather Roman because he makes Roman laugh every time he sees the silly grin chuckle wears.

Others I spend my free time but guessing at.

MrBrick because well the chap is built like a brick shithouse and no one wants to call him shit.

Fatpig well I will leave that to people's imagination

Stan_The_Man_Smith I imagine is called stan smith by he uses the nickname The_Man just so people don't get confused.

There is a chap around called Hogan he thinks he is a bit of a hulk and a bit special, I think he is possibly in denial about something myself.

Merlin is a bit handy with the dark arts I imagine, I certainly don't want him performing magic tricks with my cash again.

So the question I ask is, what's the reason for your name and do you ever wonder about where others names have come from.

My father told me before his death that when i was born i was fairly big and looked strong. To match my undoubted appearance they decided to name me Thor, after the God of thunder. I am quite happy with the choice as it is well loved by the ladies, along with my muscly body. There is the reasoning behin my name.

Thor nods to El_Nino, grabs his axe and goes hunting for his next meal.

Honestly, no, its not something i have ever done before but listening to your fruitfull speech its something i will be doing from now on, it looks fun.Moving onto why my father called me what he did, well i know there is no specific science to how any of my family line have named their children, what is apparant is that it is mostly random.

The old story goes that, they take inspiration from what ever environment they are in at the time they decided to name a kin. Take me for eg, what the hell were they thinking, well, my name Quartz, is the same as a cheaply made time piece. Make of that what you will, is till cant understand it. Whatever next, sock draw.

Joey hears El_Nino's question about names and decides to speak up.

My old man never lived to see me, so my mother named me Giuseppe, so yeah, this is my real name.

Mr. Pickles ponders whether to tell the truth or not.  His name isn't the most special, but there is something to be said for the truth . . .

I am named after a blind turtle!  It's true.  They would put him in the yard and yell, "Run free, Mr. Pickles! Run free."  And, he would just sit there.  And, that's where I got my name.  Sad, but true.

Using his pocket knife Jimmy was nearly finished scratching his name into the side of Chade's casino wall.. He laughed a bit as he looked over his shoulder to make sure nobody was watching him etch his masterpiece into the brand new brick that has just been put in

Well first off, don't let Chade see that..

My name, well I think my father had a few too many beers and he was at the end of his rope, or maybe those casino lights got the best of him after years of blackjack and he went crazy..but He had been alive a longtime as an Italian, a Corelli so I wondered why I was named Napoli when I had never in fact been to Naples and I wondered why I was born in a casino cage (the kind that holds money.. not a cage for animals I was a calm and peaceful child or was it an actual cage??) hell I do not know, I am far too old now..

Paul shakes his head at Jimmy...

Tsk tsk tsk making a mess of the nice brick, oh well atleast there is no noise as when you carve your name in the local hookers.

Back to my name, i take great pride in the Trabotti name. I am the ninth generation to wear the fine Trabotti name since my ancestor Luigi Trabotti, god rest his soul, came to these shores. For many generations we kept italian firstnames but my father figured since we have been in america such a long time now it was time to name his son more american, Thus my name became Paul Trabotti.

Seing Jimmy has finished carving his name and has left Paul cant help himself and goes to over and carves "loves jesus" after Jimmys name.

As El_niño listens to the answers he looks around at some of the people

Monet I bet that dude can paint a pretty picture.

Simplicity some would say it's a stab at his intelligence but I know it's because he keeps things simple and never over complicates things.

Mystery hmmm difficult one maybe know one knows a thing about how he came here

Euseibo is handy at soccer

Ghostdog now I'm not 100% sure but I heard from someone it comes from him appearing like a ghost at certain ......... Sites

My name is simply an identifier of my personality. Lotta smiles and nods before making her way down the street and back to her business

Mrs-Doubtfire giggles at El_Nino and what he thinks the reason for certain names are. She pipes up..

My name came about because I was put on the spot when being asked my name and I just glanced at the newspaper and the headline was.. 'Firemen Doubtfire In Shopping Mall'......

She looks down at the floor with a sad face..

Sad.. but true.

Sweeney stands by a bench drinking his strange liquid green drink he calls "Mtn Dew" He takes a swig of it and swirls it around. Thinking of new ways to beat up Hogan, SexyBeast, and Gallifrey. But, this conversation caught Sweeney's ears. He decides to listen half of it and smiles through out the rest. Laughing at other people how they got their names. Sweeney decides that no one and I mean no one would care to how he got his name. But, he decides to tell.

Well! When my mama gave birth to this sexy beast right here. No not you SexyBeast. This sexy beast. My last name was suppose to be McSweeney. Well, for some odd reason my mom changed my last name to Sweeney and then ran off. Never knew why she left. Maybe, it had to do with my cone head when I was born....Maybe....Maybe....Nah...

T-Man listening to the reasons people got there name.T-Man eventually had the courage to stand up and say his reason

"When I was born the doctor accidentally spilled a cup of tea over me don`t ask why but that`s way I got my name and I don`t even like tea either"

So there`s my story its pretty funny but I have nightmares about tea now.

El_Nino thinks about the words spoken by Mr Smith and Da Bag

Well ThePunchingBag, that has to be a nickname, I sense that at school you were picked on for some reason which resulted in you being beaten a fair chunk like a Punch bag. However lucky for us you grew out of this and became the mobster you are today. Shame the nickname stuck.

Spunktrumpet well where can one start with a name like that? Answers on a postcard please my address is JesseJames.

McKnighter strolls up with a rather cocky grin on his face, settling his gaze upon El_Nino.

"McKnighter is a pretty strange name, no doubt. Think you can give me a reason on why someone would name their child such?"

Melody giggles

Oh what a romantic theory you have there El_Niño... but not quite!! My mother worked the streets & fell in love with this 'business man' who left her a suitcase of money & a painting of a run-down piano in the middle of the forest when he found out he knocked her up..... True Story

Simplicity came to the streets after hearing a rumor that she was called a he.

"Sorry to correct you my friend, but I am not a man. Thankfully!"

"My real name is, Dolcé, but when I had to run from my father I renamed myself to Simplicity."

Simplicity stopped for a moment and then left the man with one thing.

"Feel free to read up on how I became Simplicity. It will answer everything for you."
