Silence Started by: BigBadBoss on Jun 14, '23 19:07

There was nothing better than sound, or so the Boss had thought before he suddenly became so popular within the world of the mafia. His small five-bedroom home was now back to being a full fledged mansion and there were dozens of adoring fans who called him at all hours of the day-- and night-- which caused sleep to be quite the predicament, what was the man to do? Well, the simple answer was simple, and it was right in front of him, he would create the world's first completely silent rooms. You wouldn't be able to hear anything except for your own mind, this would create either brilliance or madness, and the Boss did not care which anyone received, so long as they paid the money to sit in one of the many silent rooms.

Silence

"So, what is this thing?"

"It's a series of rooms, Kevin."

"But, why?"

"Inside of the walls of these rooms is a mesh that prevents sound from escaping or entering, it is, as they say, impossible to hear anything outside of your own bodily functions."

"Won't that get annoying?"

"That's why we sell ear cloggers for only twenty cents extra, Kevin. Everything is for sale when you're a businessman."

Before his small-minded protege could ask any more questions, the Boss slid into one of the larger rooms in the building and slammed the door shut and almost immediately it had worked. There was... nothing. It was wonderful, and as he sat there with his ears clogged up with little pieces of paper, all he could do was think about even more businesses to create.

What about a petting zoo, but all of the animals are reptiles? OR! What if I sold ideas? Wait, no, my father already did that one, and speaking of which... the Boss finally realized that he should pop into his old businesses as well as make new ones: People would fall out of love with his wondrous ideas if he gave up on them immediately after a simple death in the family.

"Well that's enough time in here...", he opened the door to see two of his little worker bees standing directly outside of it with perplexed looks on their faces. "Boss, its been three days. Did you even drink in there? Are you alright?" without skipping a beat, the Boss smiled widely and walked away from his henchmen; this was already going so well.

DO YOU NEED SOMEWHERE TO STOP AND THINK?!

DO YOU NEED TO GET A BUSINESS DEAL DONE WHERE NO ONE CAN HEAR!?!

Come on down to 'Silence' AND HEAR NOTHING!!!

(Only $5 per hour. $0.20 fee on ear paraphernalia)

COME ON DOWN TODAY!!!

The sales pitch was a bit loud given the circumstances, but one couldn't skimp on attempting to bring in new clientele and there were still important times to be loud, such as right now. With all of it finished, all that the Boss had to do was sit there and wait for a few folks to pop their heads through the front doors to have the most quiet night of relaxation they've ever had.

He also really needed to hydrate..

Harold came walking in front of the building carrying a portable gasoline-powered leaf blower. He managed to buy the equipment for cheap after it had failed to pass a regulatory "safe volume" test and was now sold on the black market.

There were a lot of stray leaves here, the place looked like a fucking mess. They needed cleaning up.

As Harold was busy noisily blowing away the leaves in front of the building with SILENCE slapped onto its signage, some leaves eventually drifted inside.

Harold was a thorough fellow who wouldn't be beaten by some stupid leaves.

Harold sighed, walked inside, determined to blow all the leaves out of the building with his leafblower.

Silence was golden and gold was the color that Scrooge liked the most of all. Well, that and silver, and also weirdly enough he was pretty partial to beige as well. Which is exactly why when he heard about the beige building that was named Silence that the duck decided it would be the perfect spot to go check out with a few of his crew-- Mate, Bloke, and the newest bodyguard under his employ, Lad.

"Are we ready?"

"Wait, I have a question. Once we're inside, are we allowed to talk?"

"Of course we are, why wouldn't we be?"

"Well it's called Silence so I was just wondering."

"I think the silence is referring to something else, but we can ask."

During their conversation the limousine that was driving all of the men took an abrupt stop. They were already at their destination, which was only a little further than a mile beyond the hotel that they had rented in Detroit for this business transaction. You see, Scrooge was always looking for more ways to become rich and buying this business would potentially be one that would secure his spot on the Michigan Board of Business Associates, which was quite the big deal.

"We're there, folks. Lets get inside. I have some people to speak with."

While Bloke and Mate made their way through the establishment's doors, Lad stood back and swept the area for any potential thieves or would-be assassination attempts. His job require a delicate touch and an eye that could see everything-- which is why he was secretly paid more than the other two, although they would never be told that.

Once everything was clear, Lad nodded towards Scrooge and the two men inside gave the thumbs up and all four of the mobsters made their way inside. It was pretty quiet in there, much like the name suggested, but the duck wasn't sure if that was because it was dead inside or if everyone was just really, really good at their jobs.

"Welcome to Silence, can I help you?" a rather small man made his way towards the gentlemen who had just entered and offered his concierge services which was a rather nice touch. After a few minutes, the young business-duck pulled out a cheque and all of them came to an agreement that he would become the new proprietor of the business; ever since The Boss died, there needed to be someone new to take the reigns of his successful businesses and Scrooge was the perfect creature for the job.
