DJ_Spinster wanders the streets once again, flitting from conversation to speech, and from speech to debate, nodding along to the occasional contribution. Annoyed with the people standing there smiling blankly at people making worthwhile speeches, Spinster decides to stand up and speak his mind I'm sure I have no influence on proceedings, and I'll be lucky if half of the people involved within the Mafia even take a half-hearted glance in my direction as I speak, but surely you people feel you should be making contributions to discussions? I was just talking to an associate down the street about honour, one of the key elements of the Mafia, yet only 3 people made a contribution after the speech?? A poor effort to be fucking honest. I can't even point the finger at the original speech being lacklustre, because it wasn't. It was open ended, leaving room for plenty of opinions, encouraged discussion, debate, you name it. Call me hypocritical for having not made many contributions up to now, but I should expect NOT to get Made Man unless my presence is known first and foremost on the streets. Maybe I should be revising my Made Man standards, but I always considered a mute not worthy of Made Man. So here I am, ranting and raving over the lack of discussion and debate going on in the street... Maybe it's not justified, looking at all the people making original speeches, but look at the diminished crowds. Look at the amount of people choosing to reply. Out of 300+ Mafioso that I know of, the highest amount of replies to speeches in the last two days is eleven, the only one in double figures (Congratulations go to Mr_47 for his fine effort on his enthralling story, The Day I was Sick, I enjoyed listening to it.). Should we be solely reliant on 47 Enterprises to be stirring up activity? Even that activity is a low amount of activity. Step it up. Take a fucking second to listen to some of these guys, they actually do talk about interesting things sometimes, and hell, I'd hope you can find time in your busy schedules to take a second to reply. It won't kill you - most of the time. Red in the face after his rant, DJ steps off his soapbox and kicks it off the street. |

Although I have not been active in the streets recently I have made my face seen. The main point of your argument is right. People should be arriving in the streets talking, debating and arguing. There are a couple of reasons that this may not be happening. The first is that arguments seem to get out of hand rather quickly nowadays and you end up dead. Personally I couldn't give a fuck, If I think I am right I will argue till the cows come home but others are scared of the repercussions if someone doesn't like their language, point or anything else they can moan about. The other is that although the speeches are fresh, some of the older members of our community have already heard these speeches in various forms, replied and may not wish to repeat themselves. Yes, the new ones have to learn but there are only so many times you can say the same point. However, I do have a bone to pick. This whole thing about street presence and Made Man? No, just no. A Made Man is the rank where you become a trusted member of your family. You have done something that your boss feels merits him to trust you enough. Street presence should only on very very rare occasions come into it. |

As I hear DJ_Spinster shout about people not talking, I can't help but see the irony in his speech. "I see your plan is to inject some motivation into others to speak up and share their opinions however, I think your chosen method of inspiration wouldn't be my preferred choice. If it were me, and it has been in the passed, I would try to spark up a debate about something people would be interested in, or give a speech that will make people laugh, rather than berate everyone for not speaking up. Indeed, although I would not have chosen this method, it's likely to get responses due to it's controversial nature, by controversial, I mean shouting at people to speak up. Bighead, your point about dieing for your speeches is one I know your father learned the hard way and I too believe that it could act as a deterrent in modern times however, that being said, I also believe that people should know when to guard their tongue. Voicing an opinion in a respectful way shouldn't get anyone killed, it's when people start shouting and swearing that they should expect a reaction. Finally, a mute not worthy of Made Man? Not sure I agree here, a Mademan is specific to the family, if you have an individual who has followed by the family rules, been active in his HQ, supported his family and worked hard for them BUT is not known on the street, would they not be worthy? |

I will be the first to admit I don't talk in the streets as much as I would like to. I would like to blame it on my mail man (he's lost 32 pounds since I joined Sammy, running back and forth to my desk), but to be honest, that's a piss poor excuse. However, it's the only one I could come up with on such short notice. Although I do agree with you, to some extent, that a Made Man should be heard before he get's Made, I also don't believe in talking just for the sake of talking. Coming out to the streets just to be seen when you have nothing to say, isn't my idea of conduct befitting a Made Man. Not everyone has an opinion on every speech being made. There have been a few good debates that I meant to join, but never got around to. Another piss poor excuse, since there is nothing stopping me from stirring up a conversation that died down a week ago. Oh, and that Mr_47 does give a fine speech. A mighty fine speech indeed. |

My grandfather did die for arguing and I myself would quite happily die for voicing my opinions. Death does not scare me, especially when I know I am right. However, it does not mean it is a safe road to go down. I have seen various people killed just for voicing an opinion that someone in power did not like. Crewleaders and RH deserve respect but they must expect some kind of backlash from any decisions they have made. If people are scared to talk the street debate will die* *I would like to point out that it does not apply to any of the current leaders. Well, not to my knowledge anyways. |

I have to admit that I am one who is a bit afraid to speak in the streets. It's not so much that I am afraid of dying as I am not comfortable with what little knowledge of this world I have. I am a mere earner so my job right now is to keep my nose to the grindstone and earn for my Boss. I am sure as I grow and gain knowledge and experience that I not only will be commenting on speeches but hopefully will be add a few posters of my own. I am, however, reading all the material I can find and beginning to form my own ideas, concepts, and perceptions of this place in order for me to reach the highest level possible for myself. Not everyone keeping quiet is doing so out of non interest in what is being said by high rankers today on the streets. Back to work! |
