| Crackdowns | Started by: Simplicity on Oct 09, '11 03:48 |

The idea is very simple, at least in text. To code it and create it would be another thing in its self that I have no idea how to do! So I'm just here to give the suggestion.
Recently the idea came to mind, due to the fact that it happened to myself and AmyFarrahFowler, both of us threw a crackdown at the same time, in the same city. Which made one of us end up wasting a credit.
Wouldn't it be a great idea, at least so it doesn't happen at the same time or within a few seconds of it, to make it so you can't throw one in that city until at least the staff count is back to 20? Or however many is the max for the staff count.
Some people may not spend real money on the credits, but for those who do, wasting a credit like that is a bit depressing. So making it where people can't use their credit right away when a crackdown was just thrown in their city would save them that dollar they spent and allow for more jailing overall. Rather than it just going to waste.
Seems like a good idea in theory, but that is for you genius coders to figure out or decide to take on and put into the game! Would be amazing if you decided to do so!
Thanks,

Why is it depressing? You were happy enough to use a credit to launch the crackdown and at the end of the day, you got exactly what you wanted...your crackdown. Just because someone else also done it at the same time doesn't necessarily give you the right to start complaining about it. You personally used 1 credit on a crackdown which you knew would be the cost, so how have you lost out and how have you wasted a credit? Unless what you're syaing is that you'd be quite happy to save your credit and rape AmyFarrah's jails instead which is just pure selfishness and i know you Simplicity, you're not that kind. ;) This 'problem' can be combatted in so many ways without coding. For example, if you know someone is actively jailing/launching in a city, communicate with them and take it in turns to launch the crackdown. Furthermore when the last prisoner is set free from jail, wait a minute before filling them back up, the problem is as soon as jails finish people get too excited and run straight off to re-fill. There is nothing wrong with the crackdown system as it is, just needs the useres to apply a bit of common sense. :) |

I was under the assumption that if two people threa crackdown at the same time, it would run its process then load up the second one once the first crack down was done? Prehaps I'm way off base here. |

I have never heard that one before Hawk. You're just making things up now ;) |

No, I know that you can easily "talk" to the person, but what if you don't know who is throwing it? What if you don't know if they're going to throw another?
Granted you take the chance of losing it, but why should you have to risk it? Wouldn't it be nicer if you had a way to make sure you didn't waste a credit?
I'm not complaining, I'm actually here trying to suggest something to fix something I find wrong about the system. Rather than sit on my ass and bitch about things I don't like. It is a bit depressing because you didn't have to waste the credit. That is a dollar someone could of saved if there was just a 10 second or 30 second "your city was already thrown in jail" like thing.
This isn't selfishness. You can even go to Amy and see that we both found it to be a good idea. We have no idea who threw the jail first to know who actually wasted a credit. Was it her or was it me? We don't know, but it isn't exactly fair to either one of us in my opinion. Say it was my jail that was up first, she wasted her credit. It is just as much for others than it is for myself.
I'm not saying the second jail will load after. I'm just saying it stops you from using your credit. Like a 30 second cool down before someone can launch a second jail in the same city. If you want to use your credit after that cooldown is up go for it! This is just to stop someone from throwing a jail at the same time as another person.
Yet, this is just a suggestion. There are plenty of them in this forum and many of them don't get implemented. I figured I would bring it up as a way to help everyone out. Yes, you are choosing to throw that crackdown, but it would be a nice safeguard if we had a 30 second or something cool down so people didn't accidentally throw a jail at the same time as someone else and use up a credit that could of been used when someone wasn't throwing a jail. |

Simplicity, everything you have just said i have already addressed when i mentioned this:
Self=explainitory, you haven't lost anything.
Ok so when jails finish, wait for 47.4 seconds then launch another if free. The chances are pretty feckin' slim that someone will do it at the exact second you do. We appear to be going around in circles here. I understand this is the suggestion forum and you have every right bring up an idea, i am not knocking you for that. Just putting in my two cents worth and covering the angles :) |

maybe what would be good would be to add another line in the conformation page. |

or you can just take a look at the numbers when you go to select a city |

Well, that is the thing. Both of us saw the numbers were high and the staff count was at like 19. So we both hit throw a jail! So this was just an idea to prevent that from happening. |

I can see the merit behind the idea, but agree ultimately with Thor. Coding here would be something we could do without, it'll be a very seldom occasion that this would occur. |

While i agree the community should try when possible to actively communicate with others in the city to find out who will be tossing next jail, i support Simplicity's idea. adding a buffer within 20 seconds of another jail being tossed would not be a bad idea. This would save a credit on either side and allow more jails later. Noi point in letting the credit go to waste, no matter how it was accquired. and yes, it is waste. you get 100 jails, instead of 200. less, xp, less rank, less bubba
kudos! |
