Money Is The Route Of All Evil. Started by: Thor on Oct 09, '11 14:50

We all know that there is way too much money in the game. We also know there have been some half-hearted attempts to take money out of the game, which seem to have only helped a tiny tiny bit. I have some ideas i want to put out there to see if anyone thinks this can make a difference and gain a reasonable contorl over money. For some people will say the game is being spoiled because of money. Fair point, i don't beleive there will be many who would argue against that. Here are a some stats to show just how much this game relies on money:

Sitewide BG Effective Count: 9620 Average Effective BG per user: 11 Total Available Cash In Game: $2,111,535,081 that means an average of $2,498,858 per user

Crazy isn't it? If you need more proof thej simply look around now at all the people swarming around with hundreds of BG's in their trail. I have lost track of roughly how many people are classed 'Insanely Well Protected'. It is actually quite rare that you find someone who hasn't got any BG's.

In order to get a grip of this problem, i offer up the following game changes to be considered:

* OC's - Moved back to being once every 24 hours.

* Petty/Felony crimes - Money earned cut by 50%.

* Druf Front Property - Removed from the game altogether. Or at least up the 'Next produced' to every 48 hours, instead of 24. Still making a massive profit in the lng run.

* BG Management - Up individual BG train cost from $12k to $20k per day.

* BG purchasing - Highten, Thug cost $1m, Gangster $2m, Goomba $3m and so on....(Basically each rank the BG price goes up by $1m)

* Business District - To own an establishment you must pay $100k to set it up, then $20k per week to keep it running. Not going to break the bank really is it?

* Achievements - Rewarded with credits only instead of credits + money.

* Pickpocketing, hitlisting, HQ purchasing, OC profits, NPM's and casino's seem alright how they are. Feel free to discuss if you think otherwise.

That's all about i can think of right now. No doubt people will come running out screaming "OMG that's too much!" but...is it really? I don't expect all of the above ideas to come into play straight away, if any, at all. It may seem like a lot of cuts but imagine the money that will be drained out the game? I am not trying to sink crews financially but it will make each crew member pull their weight and the entire crew will have to work as a team, they way it should be done.

Let's say that 90% of the money in game goes towards Bodyguards in one form or another, CL's will think twice before buying several of their members 200 BG's each due to the sheer cost to not only purchase them but also to keep them maintained and well trained. This would also affect the recent uproar about BG capping, crews simply wouldn't be able to have themselves and numerous members swarming with BG's as it wouldn't be financially viable. They simply wouldn't be able to afford it. This in turn reduces the number of BG's in game, hence eventually limiting the so called 'invincible characters'.

Furthermore, crews will have to be more tactful and swrewd in how they conduct business and be more strategic in building/maintaining their defences. I predict there would be more wars, more rogues and hopefully maybe a bit more life into the game rather than it's stale self as it is now. In the end only the most switched on crews would survive and maybe we could bring a bit more excitement back around these parts.

That's all for now. I look forward to hearing your feedback. Just remember people, money is the route of all evil!

taxing the business district would make it even less popular. I disagree with that aspect, but I really don't have enought experience to say anything about the others.

Report Post Tip

I'm against these, and very much so. Like Jonny says, it would be the death blow to the business district. Besides, the money to player ratio is fine the way it is.

Besides, the money to player ratio is fine the way it is.

Are you sure about that?

I am pretty sure in saying that it has been well documented there is way too much money in the game and there needs to be ways to drain some of it away. Hence why i bought these ideas up.

Report Post Tip

Awhile back, I believe when Jono was godfather in LA (i believe it was him, i could be wrong) they tried to install a taxation on the buisness district. A way to make it more realistic. The backlash against him was so instense that he quickly trashed the idea.

Report Post Tip

So lets just put the business district idea aside, what about the rest on my ideas?

Report Post Tip

I wouldn't mind upping how much BG's cost to buy, but I think they are already hard enough to have good upkeep on them unless you're a CL and then you deserve the right to be able to keep them up and buy more.

Other than that I don't disagree to anything else said. People who care to open a business won't mind to pay the extra money. It is everyone else that doesn't open one that will be lazier than normal.

Exactly, and good point Simplicity, but that is indeed what i meant when i stated:

"CL's will think twice before buying several of their members 200 BG's each due to the sheer cost to not only purchase them but also to keep them maintained and well trained."

and

"I am not trying to sink crews financially but it will make each crew member pull their weight and the entire crew will have to work as a team"

Aswell as buying a zillion BG's for crew members, the leaders and crew as a whole would have to put their hands in their pockets to make sure everyones BG's are kept in good health, a crew effort. Hence this takes more money away from the game and stops people swarming with hundreds of BG's.

Well, instead of taxing the business district (or, in addition to), why not make it cost money to post a new thread in the streets, a "Permit fee", if you will.

In addition to removing some money from the game, it will also narrow down the amount of new threads random civilians (not to name names, but one example may rhyme with "bublinsbi") make just to try and start shit.

Report Post Tip

Until lately the streets have been in a pretty dire state, taxation on the streets forum will deter people even more, which we do not need. Also, people have a freedom of speech ;)

Report Post Tip

I agree there is far too much money in the game and something needs to be done in order to fix this problem.

"* OC's - Moved back to being once every 24 hours." do you remember why these were put to 8 hours? so the people who play more get more money. I think this should stay as is.

"* Petty/Felony crimes - Money earned cut by 50%." I agree with this.

"* Druf Front Property - Removed from the game altogether. Or at least up the 'Next produced' to every 48 hours, instead of 24. Still making a massive profit in the lng run." I assume you mean Drug Front Property. I don't agree with them being taken out of the game altogether but maybe make them cost 2 or 3 times as much.

"* BG Management - Up individual BG train cost from $12k to $20k per day." I agree with this.

"* BG purchasing - Highten, Thug cost $1m, Gangster $2m, Goomba $3m and so on....(Basically each rank the BG price goes up by $1m)" I agree with this.

"* Business District - To own an establishment you must pay $100k to set it up, then $20k per week to keep it running. Not going to break the bank really is it?" I don't agree as why should someone pay for something that the game is based on?

"* Achievements - Rewarded with credits only instead of credits + money." I completely disagree because the amount of money you do get with everything going up wouldn't matter.

"* Pickpocketing, hitlisting, HQ purchasing, OC profits, NPM's and casino's seem alright how they are. Feel free to discuss if you think otherwise." And I agree with this as well.

So overall I think some of your ideas are good and some aren't so good. I do agree that there is too much money in the game but if this was going to happen I think adding some of this stuff in over a few months.

Report Post Tip

I think you could see some of your cash flow problems reduced by not basing a pay out off an average but jnstead have the money amount be random where you have an ability to get a low amount the same as high, not all crimes pay out the same every time in real life (not that id know). However I dont think you should mess with success to too extreme a way. We're simulating years with what we're doing but passing the time in days and months, if this game was ranl by the year then it would certainly be less appealing.

Report Post Tip

While these ideas are grand, it doesnt stop the ability to purchase credits with real money and then sell them for mafia cash. Which is the way most people go to bodyguard up.

Report Post Tip

Why can't you just limit the amount of money a certain rank can be sent! Obv. Being a CL it would be coded different but for your average user. Logistically this would have to be looked at in more depth, I'm no MR think tank but it would mean money would then have to be more strategically sent around? I'm sure it would help limit the bg problem. Just a thought.

Report Post Tip

Thinking about it more, we could even tax money that is sent? From a RP point of view only a certain amount of money can be given away without paying a tax on it anyway.

Even if we laundered the monies at the moment we do that with out risk of being caught. So, we send someone 100 million, I mean that's a lot of money tO have in hand and to send to someone without any chance of being caught by the police maybe code something in with a risk of the police intercepting the "package" and they "lost" the money on the way back to the police station or something like that. The more activity, I.E. the more money sent, the greater the risk?

Report Post Tip

Most of these suggestions are pretty drastic. Raising the price of keeping your bodyguards trained by almost 70% would be a shock to most people's bill. Cutting felonies and petties by half, when crewleaders usually tax more on drugs as it is? I have a feeling this would take more money from the poor than from the rich. :/

I suggested a while ago to just simply reduce the money supply by 10% to see the effects, but it obviously wasn't implemented. I don't think drastically altering the economic landscape of the game would do people any favors, though. If anything, it should be a gradual change - 5/10/15% increments to see what the real-world effects are.
