Deciding to forego the traditional standing on a busted up car or dragging a crate over, I have AlfonsiTimello and Dock boost me up onto a shop balcony.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, firstly apologies for the deliberately provocative opening. I come today to ask about your grand-parents, and you great grand-parents, more specifically, their families. My bloodline, like many of you, have been fortunate enough to have served under some of the greatest rulers to walk our world, great names such as Anita, Uncle_Nicky and Ellis. My father told me of how great they all were, the families they led were of the highest calibre, and for that, they went down in the history books and for good reason.

That being said, these families are no more. I am not here to discredit them in any way, they are all deserving of legend however, they are dead. The reason I'm here is to query those that still hang their banner, especially those that hang their banner over that of their current leader. I see people walking the streets, showing allegiance to a dead leader over their own family. The Guns of Navarone or the Las Vegas outlaws, Scopatale Della Madre or United Nations, all great but if I were a leader today, I would question why you show these past leaders signs and not mine!

Would that be me being an egotistical arse? I don't think so. I think it's more than reasonable to expect my members to show my banner over that of a long dead family. The shelter they enjoy is given them by their leader, not their fathers leader.

For me, my life began when I was born, I am not my father and so, to hold allegiance to his leaders is wrong. So the question I ask, is why do people show the banner of their parents? Does life not begin for you at birth? Or do people believe their life is an extension of their fathers?

I think there are probably a few leaders that agree that 'hanging someone elses banner' is not something they enjoy.

But in an effort to keep my speech short and to the point, you will find that these people that do have these "flags" up are nothing more that an Italian flying his home countries flag...its just showing where their roots are. where the family line came from. Just showing you remember. Its nothing disrespecting to their current families...just a memory wall of sorts.

I personally believe that you should put your current family banner above all else. I do have to agree that your parents, grand parents, great grand parents.....etc.....Have all fell victims to our world, But if they were known then they will never be forgotten. I dont see why you would need to put up a banner for them.

I mean what if you might have pissed someone off back in the day and not have known about it...Therefore making yourself a target now. There are just some people who never let up on grudges.

Just my opinion...I am drunk so dont mind me :D

Everyone seems to have an additional mailing address on their banners as well...and adrees which sends you somewhere for more info.I suggest using that area to maybe praise past legends etc...

Waving any banner except that of your current family is unacceptable in my books. It pays respects to the past and that is ok.but do it somewhere other than where you are waving your family banner.Your boss will love you for it and the hitsquad will have to wait awhile for your next fuck up to get a crack at you.So until then, wave one banner and stop being such a hinderance on all of us.

I remember reading in family journals about my first kin who arrived into America supporting banners of the older times. After a couple of books it seemed to disappear. I guess it could have been something that kind of died off, or maybe even a political move to distance themselves from former grudges. Hard to tell what their exact thoughts were.

The only thing I would know is that anyone still supporting a banner of the past would be a part of a bloodline who honorably served such a past family. In that case, such a statement may even make leaders look upon such people in a better light. That type of loyalty can be a great trait of character.

With that said, I would like to pay homage to a family that I only know by the name of Moustache Pete's. I most likely won't get a new tatoo for it or anything, but it is the first enterprise I remember reading about from those old family journals since my bloodline has come to America.

"Not sure I agree, it shows they served (or that they claim to have) for that family but doesn't show that they served honorably, it just shows they served. Nor does it show anything about loyalty, your loyalty should be with your current leader, not your fathers leader, so if anything, it shows quite the opposite. If you show open support for a past family over your current family, to me that's a middle finger up at your boss. Also, what if that family were to be resurrected, would you leave your current family? Would you turn coat?"

I was consigilieri to TheGunsOfNavarone and then leader they were the greatest crew ever and i have plans to resurect them one day the movie never ends............IT GOES ON AND ON AND ON!!!!!!!!!

I'm not doubting they were great however, I do think it wrong that you have their banner parading before that of Ellis'. Ellis is your leader, it is him who offers you shelter and protection. As such, you should show your support for the 13th above all else yet TheGunsOfNavarone take pride of place.

KOW - you are invincible no matter your name or allegiance :) I agree with every new generation is a new person. However the only time I would disagree with people not showing an ancestor's flag is when they are showing their original roots in this country - I don't believe there is harm in that as long as it is clear it is respect for one ancestral family and "the flag" flies lowere then their current family's

Some good points made here for sure and some not so good ones. To be honest though, I love my banner. My banner says absolutely everything about who I am. I live for the kind of music I like, and I always will. I absolutely adore nights sitting in the poker rooms and having a laugh with people. And I wear my UN colours with pride because like it or not, thats MY heritage, just as much as the music I like and the poker tables.

I have had the privilege of working with two great bosses since I came to these streets first recently, and the first of those PriceofCheese actually encouraged me to fly my UN banner with pride. I also wore his banner with pride as I do with my current boss.

I dont wear a UN banner in memory of a dead leader. I wear the banner in respect to a way of life, a tradition of principles that are AS important today as they were in the time of UncleNicky, principles passed down through my OWN parents which are as relevant today in my own family as they were in his. I work hard within my family to earn their loyalty and respect. I have never done it any other way.

Im proud of my heritage. Any leader who takes offense to his family members showing respect to their own heritage and the values and principles which follow might have an ego problem in my opinion. We are men, we are soldiers, we are family, we are cosa nostra. We are NOT slaves. We have all came here of our own free will and decided to live out this life of crime. We have sworn loyalty to our bosses and as long as that loyalty and respect remains, thats whats most important than crying over what banner we carry.

Well, they had better hope that they are loyal to their current leader if they want to make any progress with their careers. I don't see how an extra banner takes away from that.

I guess it's easy to say that you are loyal to a dead guy, but what does that really mean?

Well, K-Dawg just did a good job answering my question before I even asked it.

I think he may be psychic or something.
