.....I experienced a moment of clarity and now I understand why oh why I and everyone else keep on coming back

Despite losing everything, time after time.
Despite quitting time after time
Despite swearing I would never be back, time after time.

I still find myself here again.
Perhaps I start slowly, my first character after a 2 year break played about 1 hour a month.
But then one finds ones self deeper and deeper in the murky deeps of the game.

One starts to actually care about the fictional happenings of the players.

WHY DOES THIS HAPPEN???

Simply put, the whole game is one huge crap shoot

One very long gamble.

You start a character
You invest hours and hours in it, pile on more and more.
Gambling that you will survive
Gambling you will not die from a 1% wackback
Hoping that while you click away, you will not be killed by a rogue or find yourself in a crew that gets taken down.
You gamble that you will have luck in finding the IA's and the best drug prices.
The higher you go, the higher the stakes are

And then one day
.... you loose it all.  you are broke and homeless.

and you pick yourself right up again and start to gamble again.

Yes, its an addiction and gambling is its name.

I completely agree with this.

Although, especially in light of the recent retirements, I would love to know what it is most people are gambling for to begin with.

Seemingly it is gambling to survive and survive and survive and...

I just lost my first character a four days ago.
I put 3 months into it
days after days
weeks after weeks
staying up all night.
and then when I died I was pissed
but know I have started all over again
I lost everything and I will start again.
and again, again and again.

Lol good way of putting it, personally i keep coming back time and time again just because i have the urge to go one better all the time, i compare my previous characters and think to myself what can i do better can i get more kills than my last character can i earn more money can i make better decisions?.

Guess im an official MR junkie, damn i should consult my shrink :D

Damn Merlin, Does that meen we can get the government to build Mafia returns halls so people like us can feed our addictions in privatcy away from the preening eyes of society :P
