After returning back to Chicago after a long flight, TheWanderingJew calls upon his Right Hand Man and personal assistant/slave Pencil to collect him from the airport. Exhausted from a busy day and a long flight, he could not wait to return to the warm embrace of his Headquarters and the crew he considers his family. One particular member, has always held a special place in his heart. A controversial figure at times, TWJ had many times put his neck on the line to ensure the protection of StandbyJudgeHarold and many generations of his family. For the last few days, Harold had not seemed himself. He spent his hours locked away alone in the basement, desperately waiting for the next big story - one that just did not seem to be coming. His spirit looked broken, a shadow of the man he formerly was. He couldn’t continue like this and TWJ couldn’t bare to see him this way. He took the 42 padlocks off the door, one by one and made his way down into the basement. “Harold, your sadness of late is breaking my heart. I can see your no longer contempt living this life you have chosen. You can’t go on like this”. TheWanderingJew took a moment to contemplate Harold’s future. What on earth could he possibly do? This is all he has ever known. This deranged, miserable, Gollum-like creature has zero skill set. But, what he did have was a lot of knowledge. Knowledge of the inner workings of this Headquarters. |

Would Harold really be a potential leak after his days here? Could TWJ really risk letting Harold loose into the outside world and compromise the safety and mystery of his business. The answer is quite clear to see. Harold’s fate would be sealed. TheWanderingJew, resting his hand on the shoulder of the beat up, down-on-his-luck, monobrowed reject, held back a tear as he spoke. “Harold, I’ve got a hot scoop for you”. Harold’s eyes lit up, for the first time in what felt like forever. “Come with me”. TWJ continued. “I’ll show you, it’s out back. Behind the shed”. Harold skipped his way out the back door of the HQ, completely unaware of the fate that awaited him. TWJ pointed around the corner and slowly pulled out his gun whilst Harold’s back was turned. In one swift and accurate draw, he found himself with his gun pointing directly at the back of Harold’s head. At the very last second, Harold turns to face TWJ. The look of shock and surprise on his face will haunt TWJ for the rest of his days, as Harold’s eyebrow reaches record heights on his forehead. “Goodbye Harold, your newspaper sucks”. |

Harold was sitting in the grass, contemplating life. Was TheWanderingJew secretly an enemy of The Free Press? He did drive a red car, and he did make many funny hand gestures.
Like any complicated question that life posed, the answer could be found in Systematic Immolation of Thought. Harold opened his leatherbound copy and started flipping through its pages, unaware of what was happening behind him. |
