All that can be heard in the darkened backroom of the bank is the steady and methodical clicking of a safe vault. The room is pitch black except for the orange light coming from the end of the cigarette hanging from a mysterious man's mouth. Smoke swirls whimsically in the air above the shadowy figure as he crouches in front f the safe. The clicking of the safe dial slows until the final click is heard, the one that releases the pin and allows the vault to be opened. Beady eyes peer out from the man's fedora hat as he pulls open the safe. He pulls his gold zippo lighter from his breast pocket and lights the flame, illuminating his face momentarily and revealing that the man is none other than TheStranger. TheStranger counts the money inside the safe, the total coming to $160,000. He glances down at the audit sheet on is clipboard and confirms this is the amount that is supposed to be in the safe. TheStranger makes a notation on the sheet and initials it so that when the bank manager comes in the next morning, he will see that the amount in the safe was the same as when he left the evening prior. This was one of the few expectations the bank manager laid out for TheStranger when he hired him as a night watchman. It was only meant to be a part time job to supplement his criminal enterprises and to occupy his time at night. TheStranger never sleeps. However the bank was not without its share of issues. The other night watchman who worked the other end of the week quit unexpectedly, and the bank manager had told TheStranger that extra shifts were available. However, TheStranger was affiliated with Godfather Ian's crime family, and The Godfather expected complete devotion to his organization. TheStranger had approached Godfather Ian and explained the bank's dilemma to him, but his plight fell on deaf ears. TheStranger's request for time off was denied. TheStranger even produced the weekly schedule that the bank manager had sent out to all the employees to Godfather Ian but to no avail. There are no days off in the mafia, he explained to TheStranger. Once you commit to it, there are no other obligations that can trump one's responsibility to the family. As TheStranger closed the vault and secured it, he thought back to that conversation. He knew right then that he had a decision to make, and that the wrong decision could be his last. He weighed his options; pick up a few extra shifts at the bank, or commit fully to the mafia and Godfather Ian's family. He remebered the impatient look on Godfather Ian's face as he waited for TheStranger's answer. TheStranger's mind raced. He lit a cigarette as he contemplated Ian's demands. After a moment, he pulled a drag from his cigarette, stood up straight, looked his Godfather in the eye, and commited himself fully to him. "Ok" he said |

GordonGopher had always been a hardworking fella, though the name his parents chose for him was rather unfortunate, the consequences of which he had to deal with the ever since. GordonGopher was relentlessly bullied in high school for harboring such an unorthodox name, resulting in him eventually dropping out. He came to work for a pet store called "Gilligan's Gerbils", and as a cruel twist of fate GordonGopher was assigned to take care of the gophers, no doubt old Gilligan thought himself a comedic genius. Eventually through a number of strategic business manoeuvres GordonGopher managed to become the owner of said Gerbil store at the age of fifteen and push Gilligan out of the picture. Seeing as how GordonGopher now called the shots the store was rebranded as a gopher-oriented store, from then on called "GordonGopher's Gophers". Eventually GordonGopher came into contact with the local mobsters through his store but he forgot exactly how.
GordonGopher found himself at the bank to withdraw the bribe money to keep the local mobsters away from his gopher store, when he spotted TheStranger fingering his golden zippo lighter. "What a fancy lighter", he ruminated out loud. |
