This operation was conceived and launched to remove from power and office -Premeir and Roman. In order for it to achieve this result, a lot of their people had to die.

I recognise that they military action to disarm Roman and -Premeir of their Godfather titles has aroused strong feelings in this region. So I am grateful for this opportunity to explain why we are reluctantly undertaking this action and our goals for the future.
We had hoped that military action could be avoided. There has been no rush to conflict. Indeed, they 8 cities have waited a long time for Roman and -Premeir to rid themselves voluntarily of their Godfather title.
The Other Cities demanded Roman and -Premeir disarm because of their record of reckless aggression against neighbouring cities and because, uniquely in modern times, they has used such weapons against both their own people and their neighbours.
After more than a decade of Roman and -Premeir's deceit and delay, the other cities gave them a 'final opportunity' to disarm peacefully through Security Council Resolution 1441 in November. Once again they refused.
The choice they 8 cities they faced was to disarm Roman and -Premeir by force and oust their regime or to back down and to leave Roman and -Premeir hugely strengthened to attack or intimidate their neighbours and to pass on these weapons to extremist terrorist groups. I believe that history will judge that we made the right choice.
Our quarrel is not with this thing of ours’ people but with Roman and -Premeir, their sons, and their barbarous regime which has brought misery and terror to their country. I recognise that this thing of ours’ people have been the biggest victims of Roman and -Premeir's rule. This is not a war of conquest but of liberation.
So we are doing all that is humanly possible to minimise civilian casualties and finish this campaign quickly. Military conflict, sadly, always leads to the loss of civilian lives. Mistakes will be made. But they gun attacks on New York witnessed on TV have shown they effort taken to target Roman and -Premeir's regime and apparatus of power and oppression.
We are also working hard to bring immediate humanitarian aid to this thing of ours’ people. The United Kingdom has so far pledged $120 million in assistance in addition to the $100 million we have given since 1931. We will also mobilise the 8 cities to provide emergency humanitarian relief.
But our commitment does not end there. We are committed to working with the Other Cities and the whole 8 cities to help the people of this thing of ours repair the damage and destruction brought to this thing of ours by a quarter of a century of Roman and -Premeir's tyranny and corruption.
This thing of ours is a country with a rich history and culture and massive potential. Before Roman and -Premeir's shadow fell on this thing of ours, its economy was vibrant and people prosperous. But Roman and -Premeir's aggression, repression and misrule has reduced the country to one in which 60% of its population are dependent on food aid.
Roman and -Premeir could have had sanctions lifted at any time by meeting their disarmament obligations. Instead they have deliberately exploited sanctions to cause maximum misery to this thing of ours’ people. |
