Laundering the Laundry System Started by: Pepper on Nov 01, '11 16:05

I originally posted this in the official laundry announcement thread, but since it's not so much feedback as it is a game suggestion, I decided to repost in the correct forum (with a few minor additions):

Here's my take on this:

I understand the concept behind the laundry idea, but the implementation is not working. Yes, there are concessions we have to make in the realm of roleplay to make this site feasible, but this defies all logic.

Traditionally mobsters would open up businesses that were a front for laundering money or trafficking illegal goods. Our business district isn't at a point where this feature could be implemented, but we do have a game coded business that is perfect for this role:

Casinos.

Instead of the current system, let's make it a more manual money laundering scheme. Every so often, players would need to go to a casino and put their assets into the form of chips, getting the money out of their hands. They could then turn around and cash out their chips for legitimate 'casino winnings', thus getting rid of their dirty money and legitimizing their cash on hand.

The longer a player goes without laundering their money, the more heat they bring on themselves... the higher their chance of failing crimes and going to jail. If you go to jail and you have wads of dirty money on hand, the police take 5% (or 10, or 25, whatever) of your cash on hand to line their own pockets.

If you DO launder money at the casino, the house takes 2% of whatever you launder (or more, I'm just throwing out numbers), and then they pay half (or even all) of that take in tax revenue to the government. Casinos would still earn a profit from the actual gaming, which would remain untouched, but would run a side laundering business to clean money for fellow mobsters. (Ideally this would work best if each city had their own casino, but that's one of those RP concessions.)

People who just bank regularly instead of laundering or having a lot of money on hand run the risk of being audited for tax evasion. If the player gets caught, they lose 10% of all money assets they have (not including credits) and are put in prison for a longer than usual time (but not so long as to create disinterest in the game.) They wouldn't be impossible to break out, but it would take a very skilled JBer, or an 'incentive' to the warden from the person's CL.

End result:

You're getting money taken out of the game.
You're giving people the option to play it safe and launder, or run the risk of getting caught and potentially losing more money.
You're making casinos more than just a mini-game feature, you're legitimizing a mafia 'front' business.

Obviously this needs a little tweaking and finalizing, but ANYTHING is better than the current system.

i actually like this. it is a nice little piece of RP correction.

that said, money would still need to go directly to the city banks to fix this issue that the change was origanally implemented for.
