As opposed to the intense discussions about respect, honour, loyalty, omerta and the Mafia traditions that have been upheld for as long as I can remember, I think we should talk about something much more of a pressing issue. Alas, it's not anything to do with rivers of tears, cookies, CP or "William the Tank". As much as those are discussed around these parts, they do not prey upon my considerable brain capacity unfortunately. No, what I'm talking about is how we go about things in our community across the 6 cities. We shoot other Mafioso for no reason. We bribe police to throw other Mafioso in jail so we can get them out again. We wait exactly 3 and half minutes between knocking over 7/11s (way to go Mr Predictable...). We run prostitution rings/rob banks/do truck heists every 12 minutes. We fly across the US with masses of bodyguards. I ask you why we haven't been permanently arrested?? Sure, we bribe them, but that's a whole lot of corrupt police officers. It just seems unlikely that all police departments in the 6 cities will ignore hundreds of Mafioso with guns and bodyguards tearing up their economy. So why do they continue to turn a blind eye to our organisation?? I've been arrested before, but then set free again . Why?? Can any of my fellow Mafioso answer this question? And please, if it's because we bribe them, tell me the last time you bribed all 6 city police departments. |

For the sake of argument, I'll regard us mobsters and the law as black and white, two completely separate entities, though this isn't of course the case; the interests and operations of the two are too intertwined to claim they are independent from one another to see anything other than a big grey area. When we look at Mobsters, the bottom line is the bottom line. It's all about profit. Say what you want about onore and other arguably outdated concepts, the Mafia has evolved and is no longer about protection or anything other than profit. Sometimes, the pursuits which lead to the profit may be legit, such as the nice tattoo racket going on, otherwise, it's likely to be illegal. To succeed in making profits illegal, you need to be clever and plan things meticulously, or you need the protection of the law, the second is far easier to come by. This is where the law come in, men are greedy; it is in the nature. It is supposedly the ethos of the police and law to serve and protect, however, this often takes a back burner to their own greed. From a morality point of view. I suppose one could claim that organised crime poses a significantly lower risk to the innocent civilians that stroll around. We don't, for instance, set off untidy bombs, we prefer the clean method of the wire. Compared to the other criminal outfits, La Cosa Nostra is certainly the lesser of two evils, so it is only logical that from the point of view of the police, politicians and even judges, that we should be able to operate with a certain degree of carte blanche in order to keep the even more undesirable louts of the streets. |

If you pull at any of the multitude of cards which make up this house, the whole thing will come down. I wouldn't bother discussing such a point, unless you were going to take it further, which would require an evaluation of our entire reality. And then you'd be up shit creek without a paddle. |
