Description of Suggestion: Esentially, make a pre-requisite for posting in the Streets forum. Presently, anyone can sign up and post whatever they want (and we've seen some spammers in the past few weeks). I propose that there be a "lock" of sorts that requires users to input some amount of time, petty count, or rank in order to post in the Streets.

Support: If we're aiming for realism, when do Civilians make speeches to hardened criminals? The civilians, Petty Thieves, and Thugs are protected for (at least) 24 hours, and can say/do whatever they want in that time; with no recourse. That protection affords them the right to say things that, realistically, could get civilians killed. In their case, there's no risk to saying whatever they want, because for a few hours; no one can shut them up, and there's nothing hanging on those words. If they were forced to do 50 petties, or rank to Gangster, then there's something riding on their words.

Also, when has a Thug ever contributed a speech so valuable that it couldn't have waited for 12 hours until he/she became a Gangster? If the speech is worth the wait, and the Thug is sticking around (for some period of time) we still get to see it. If it isn't worth the wait, and the player isn't sticking around, then there's one less useless speech with no weight behind it.

Now, I don't know what the right requirement is. I'd say either a Gangster or Sponsored Thug. That way, there's a risk in whatever they say; and they can't just spout off without having any reaction to their words. In the case of an Unsponsored Gangster, your life is on the line when you speak. In the case of a Sponsored Thug, your crew is on the line when you speak; as you represent them now. Your thoughts?

Love it

Excellent suggestion. I would like to see this or something similar introduced.

Report Post Tip

Sorry, this idea is not very good. We have just entered a time when freedom of speech is at its highest. And you want to then ban people from posting before they are gangster...I have seen many great speeches from Civilians. Often civilians also work as head of public relations for underground groups. Also, on a personnel note:

Pharol: Threads / Posts: 1 / 12

Im_Irish: Threads / Posts: 0 / 14

2 people who have contributed nothing to the streets asking for forums to be looked before reaching Gangster. Does not really put much weight behind the idea and puts me in a position where I can guarantee that civilians have contributed more to the streets in their life time then either of your 2 accounts upto this point.

Report Post Tip

That seams like a bad idea because

But I think you can`t post it if
it is less than 30 words or something.

Report Post Tip

19 threads on the front page (removing Anubis'). Breaks down as:

Under gangster: 3
Over gangster: 16

And the breakdown of those:

3 under gangster posts:

2 worthwile
1 crap

16 over gangster posts:

1 protection list
2 auth threads

So essentially only 13 proper threads, 3 of which wernt written in November. That leaves us with 10.

Of those 10, 5 are under 350 words, so in reality that leaves 5 that are a worthwhile topic.

So 7 worthwhile recent topics on the front page by posters over gangster versus 2 worthwhile topics written by those under gangster.

One final thing: 2 of those 5 topics already had a post by that author on the front page.

So again, in reality, there were just 3 unique posters of posts that were 350+ words and not city notices.

That against 2 Under gangsters

So 3 v 2

You are clearly right, lets ban the under gangsters, who contributed nearly 50% of the quality on the front page, from posting.

Report Post Tip

FattyFats you clearly don't understand my point. I don't want to "ban" people from posting, just require something from them before they do. How many of those threads couldn't wait a few hours to be posted? It would force them to think through their idea a bit more than if they were capable of publishing anything they wanted as soon as they signed up.

As for comparing my present character's activity in the Streets; try to muster up the intelligence to understand that my past three characters have all been very active in the Streets, and each have waited until I was a Gangster or Sponsored Thug to post. Because I haven't posted 4 threads before Goomba I can't make a suggestion about NOT posting early on in a character's life?

Why would I post in the Streets and deliberately go against my own suggestion?

As per your "math" which doesn't make ANY sense. Three under gangster posts out of 19 and somehow that's 50%? Regardless, if they were forced to wait, you'd still get each of those good posts; and the crap post may've been thwarted.

Report Post Tip

Pharol, I will work it though again...

16 topics by over gangsters (OG)

3 are city notices (auth/protection lists), takes us down to 13

3 were not written recettly (ie in November), takes us down to 10

5 were under 350 words (therefore not a proper thought out thread, no intro, very little said), takes us down to 5

2 of those 5 already had were not by unique posters (ie someone who did not already have a post on the front page), that takes us down to 3

Therefore, on the front page currently, there are 3 worthwhile topics by a unique poster

That against 2 worthwhile topics by unique posters by under gangsters (UG)

3 v 2

Thats near enough 50% for my liking

To sum up. Its a bad idea which should NEVER be implemented.

Report Post Tip

That doesn't make any sense! The good threads would STILL go up, they'd just have to wait for a few hours. They wouldn't just stop existing entirely because they can't post them as soon as they sign up.

Report Post Tip

Let me put it another way. We attract a new player. They have played text based RPG's before. They enter the game. Write out a great intro thread. Go to post it. Not allowed to post it because they are under 24 hours old. Go 'WTF?'. Log off. Don't return. Lost a Role Player. you have to remember, this is a TEXT BASED RPG. So turning off the ability to RP is basically turning off the game. We want to be encouraging more posters. Not encouraging more click monkeys.

I am done with the suggestion now. I have put my opinion over. done.

Report Post Tip

I'm not "turning off" the ability to RP. I'm suggesting that limiting their ability to post IN ONE FORUM would be beneficial. Why would someone stop playing the game just because they can't post their own thread in the Streets? Makes no sense. It's not "turning off the game", and you're being pretty dramatic about the whole thing, to be honest. Every time I bring up a good reason to support the suggestion you just change the subject; so I'm not surprised you're "done".

Report Post Tip

I'm going to give this a big two thumbs down. There should be no restrictions placed on the streets for anyone. Anyone who signs up has "knowledge of the mafia" because we don't really RP outside of this fact. Therefore any civilian, gangster, goomba, up through Godfather can speak in the streets about it. If you want to RP that civilians shouldn't know anything, go ahead yourself, but other people may not want that.

Report Post Tip

Funnt fattyfats, your two threads to talk about people commiting suicide, and the other about new auths.. hmmm both threads came off as useless. Have you contributed to the streets other than to waste time?

Didnt think so.

Report Post Tip

So before you go WAY off topic think before speak.

Report Post Tip

I actually love this idea.

Why on earth would mobsters give random civilians even a second glance in the streets? They wouldn't. Mobsters are much more concerned with extorting businesses, and protecting their turf.

This would help stop all those stupid whiney threads people tend to post after wars/takedowns. I must admit, there have been a fair few less as of late, but that doesn't mean they won't happen again.

As for FattyFats "statistics", I think we can all learn never to listen to statistics again. Manipulating those numbers and disregarding threads that you think are "not worthwhile", disregarding ones which weren't written in the past six days is pretty ridiculous, and different threads written by the same people?! Let's just listen to your "not worthwhile" ones, but disregard your removal of the ones not in november and the same writers and let's see what numbers we come up with.

Your 3 Vs 2.

Add on the 2 which aren't "unique posters". 5 Vs 2.

Add on the 3 which you didn't consider "recent". 8 Vs 2.

So in a total of 10 threads, 8 out of 10 of these are by those thug and above.

Back to the original suggestion;- I think it's good, sponsored thug or gangster is a good time to be able to 'speak' in the streets. We shouldn't have to put up with people who just spout crap under the protection afforded them in the time which they are supposed to spend finding a family.

Report Post Tip

8 out of 10 of these are by those Gangster and above, was obviously what I meant to say there.

Report Post Tip

NO NO NO.

ok, i'm not an enormous voice by any meanas. but i know this is CRAP!!!

this is a ROLEPLAY FORUM. to use this game effectively, you need to be able to ROLEPLAy.

under no circumstances whatsoever should the ability to roleplay be limited in any way.

Report Post Tip

now, i will say, i wouldn't mind seeing a minimum word count on posts.

Report Post Tip

Personally I love the stupid threads as much as the great ones.

The whinging after wars and generally abusive posts are often the most entertaining. They usually tend to progress as more important people piggyback onto the back of them too.

Removing these would detract more from the game than it would actually help it and knowing that I spend a lot more time posting than I do pettying, I'd hate to see a requirement implemented that made me have to press the buttons repeatedly (which I find a necessary evil in making the game function) rather than doing what I actually want to do.

Report Post Tip

So you are saying that the crazy rantings of those coming home to find their parents and the crew they worked for slaughtered aren't worth it? The attempts at starting a new life in the Streets with their new names aren't worth it? The participation of new people to the game isn't worth it?

We can't sit here and say "You have to post like this, this, and this. It has to read like this. You have to have this many words."

Posting is about expressing ourselves and developing our characters. We as players have the ability to watch these threads go to the second page and beyond by NOT replying to them.

I don't think that it's fair to the players and the game (Which relies upon player interaction at ALL ranks.) to limit who can post, how much they have to post, what they can post. Some topics don't need to have 500 words to be addressed.. Some people just aren't "that" wordy.

Quite simply, if you don't like it.. Don't read it, don't post in it.
