The Dixie Mafia and The Joker Collide 

Joker wanted to get away, so he took his men with him to relax in New Orleans to see Mardi Gras.  This was a holiday of parades and drinking and wild parties where anything can happen.  New Orleans was known as the city of pirates and thieves.   They drank, laughed and had more fun with the women in New Orleans than they ever could anywhere else in the United States. They spent money on drinks buying out the bar and restaurants so those that happened to be in their eating had their meals covered by the Joker and his party.   As they walked down Bourbon Street they came to the French Quarters.   There they were invited to the home of Max Julian and his cousin Jeb Walker and their uncle Cletus Hogg.  They were moonshiners, and distributors of marijuana.  They also controlled the gambling steam boats and houses in the French Quarters.  They had a way of making their enemies disappear with the help of the Sheriff’s department.  Sheriff Joe Duke and his men were paid by the family.  

The Joker declined the invitation; he was there strictly for relaxation.  The family didn’t take too kindly to him not accepting so they went to the hotel he was in and waited for him to come down to the lobby for their lunch meeting.  Joker and his men were met by the Sheriff and the Sheriff’s deputies.  The Joker smiled and asked if he was under arrest and Joe Dukes said you could be so it depends on you.  Scratching his head Joker laughed and told them he was on vacation to select another.  Then a six foot eight man stood up.  He was wide, tall and looked like he could carry a refrigerator for his lunch box.  His name was Bubba Dukes.  The Joker waved off his men and they stood down.  Joker told them to tell their boss he would meet them later in the day but do not push him any further or all bets would result in something they aren’t ready for.  Joker told them he was a guest of Silver Dollar Sam Carollo, who was the boss on the east side of town.  

Joker met with the family just past 6 pm at their home.  He was accompanied by all the men he brought to New Orleans.  Doc, Freddie, Nails, Whispers, Krusty, Bozo, Pennywise and Gino.  They were strapped for the meeting and when the Sheriff’s deputies tried to search them they drew their guns pointing them at the heads of the deputies.  Joker told Joe to have his men stand down and step back and his men would lower their hardware.  If not then all bets are off and the town will go boom.  Joe looked Joker in the eyes and Joker laughed and told Joe to check with his boss about the Joker's reputation.   Joker took a seat and told him he would wait.  Joe told his men to stand down and step back.  Then the family walked in with about ten more men Joker was out numbered twenty three to nine.  Then an old woman with a cane walked up to the Joker and sat down and told the Joker he liked his style however it wasn’t necessary they were there to talk about partnership.  

She wanted someone to carry their product north and be their distributor and they liked what they heard about the Joker.  When he booked his rooms they were notified and then they made some calls and realized this was a good business opportunity.  Their product was moonshine and Marijuana and soon opium and hash.  Joker would get twenty thousand a month for his share.  Joker smiled and told her that was a nice offer but that wasn’t enough for his time and efforts.  The products they sold wasn’t products he sold except for the marijuana and since he had his supplier that would be bad for his business.  He just wasn’t interested in their offer he stood up and thanked them and as he was about to leave she told him to sit the fuck down.  That he misunderstood that he was going to do it because it was in his best interest to do so.  If he didn’t then they would have problems leaving the state.   Joker looked at her and told her that they didn’t want him as a partner or to stay in their lovely state longer than he needed to. Detailing him was like stepping into a cage buck ass naked with a hungry tiger. 

The money they offered him wasn’t enough; he would need half of the sales profits and a three million dollar advance retainer.   What they didn’t know was Doc had gone to see Silver Dollar Sam and Called home Bane and Deathstroke were on their way along with Oswald and Two Face to include Wlliam Fisk and Hammer Head and a shipment of the Joker’s favorite toys.  Joker suggested that they all take a break and conclude in a few days.    Then a few cars pulled up with men from the Silver Dollars Sam's family arrived.  Now the tables turned The Dixie Cup Mafia was now outnumbered two to one.

Part two

Joker was again cornered by Max Julian and his cousin Jeb Walker and their uncle Cletus Hogg.  The moonshiners, and distributors of marijuana.  They were a bit bitter with the meeting with Joker and Ma the day before.  They were told by Ma to lay off the rough stuff yet they wanted to press the issue.  They talked with Joker about opium, another business Joker avoided because the income wasn’t where he wanted to be.  Joker was surrounded by his men and they were well armed and now staying in the neutral territory between Silver Dollar Sam and the Dixie Mafia.  Sheriff Joe Dukes was there with his deputies.  Joker listened then after forty five minutes of them and their new sale’s pitch on them working together.  Joker explained that they needed to think bigger, turn their opium into heroin and then he could add their weight with his already distribution market or they could partner with Silver Dollar and maintain a peace with the partnership.  Together they could split the state and sell their powder without worry.   

Cletus Ma’s brother wasn’t liking the concept of working with the Italians or Joker.  He wanted to show them that they had muscle and were not afraid to use it by killing someone like the Joker.  Joker knew that Cletus did like him at all.  After a second hour of talks Joker ended the meeting by telling them that what they wanted to do was good business just not a business that enticed him or interested him in the slightest.  Jeb took that as an insult calling Joker a northern yankee full of himself and that he couldn’t see the forest if he stood in the center of the fields.  Joker smiled and told them that he appreciated the hospitality but that wasn’t his cup of tea.  Max was calm and did more of the listening.  He pulled Joker to the side and said if he could convert the opium into heroin how many pounds would attract his appetite.  Joker explained that they need a ton every six months to start and two tons would make them all very profitable.  Joker could see that, that answer was far more than he could produce anytime soon.  

He told Joker that his mother would like to speak with him one more time before he leaves.  Joker laughed and explained that it wouldn’t do any good.  He could tell yesterday that his request for advance payment hit a nerve and that the amount requested would hit their pockets hard.  Joker didn’t like games or prolonging the obvious.  Max said it wouldn’t be a good thing to refuse Ma.  Joker smiled to hide his anger and said Ma is an adult he’s sure she’s had to deal with bad news many times in her life.  Then Max and his family and men left.  Later that same day Joker found himself waiting on Pennywise and Bozo.  They were late getting ready for dinner.  Krusty and Nails went looking for them but couldn’t find them.  The night went on and still no word.  The following morning Joker received a call from the lobby.  A package had arrived for him.  It was two rings and a watch.  The Watch was Bozo’s and the rings Pennywise.  Two hours later Silver Dollar Sam came to him and told Joker that Ma sent them a message that if they didn’t stop fucking with their plans of growth that they would be the reason for another war between them.  Joker was told that his two men were found in a corn field with a note and corn stuck up their rear.  The note said Northern Yankee Bull Shit. Rejecting Hospitality is a no no in New Orleans.  Joker and his men were taken to the county morgue.   While there Joker noticed that both men had their hands tied and a bullet put in the back of their heads.  

Joker told Doc that they needed supplies that he would get what he needed and that the men should stay together and if the sheriff comes to arrest them to kill Joe Dukes and his deputies.  Joker went to a small fishing store he saw on the way to New Orleans. It was an hour away.  He bought fifty sticks of dynamite with fifty plugs and a dozen boxes of shotgun shells and a dozen boxes of 38 and 9mm bullets.  He bought ten yards of fuse and ten pounds of steel ball bearings.  Joker paid cash and the country boys working in the fish and tackle store carried everything out to the car.  Joker then asked if they knew anyone in New Orleans and when they said yes they have an aunt and uncle that lives there and they can get him some top notch moonshine Joker smiled and thanked them.  Then he bought ten more sticks of dynamite and three feet of fuse.  While talking with them he taped the sticks together and then cut a small piece of fuse and placed it in a round plug and then connected the plug into one of the sticks.  The boys said that that's too much for fishing one stick would do.  

He asked them what did they have stored in the back and they said moonshine. He asked for four cases and paid for it.  They said they will get him the cases and load it in his car.  Joker thanked them, and as they went to get the Moonshine Joker was gone and the dynomite was on the counter with jars of nails around it.  Joker saw the store blow up from his rear view mirror and laughed as he headed back to his men.  

Part three

Joker made it back to the hotel where his men were.  They came down and helped him unload the car of the stuff he purchased.  That night he made a few things and explained to the guys they needed to go to Silver Dollars Compound and stay there until the reinforcements arrive.  He told Krusty that he could ride with him because Pennywise and Bozo were their best friends when Joker got started in the business.  That night the men drove to Sam compound while Joker and Krusty got dressed for the game.  They had their face paint on and their weapons of choice.  That morning a box addressed for the Sheriff was placed on the steps of the Sheriff’s office with a card that read Great job, much appreciated. The morning shift placed the package on the Sheriff’s desk and went about getting ready for the day. 

At 9am Sheriff Joe Dukes arrived and as he parked his patrol car he was stopped by his brother Bubba they talked in the parking lot.  He was told that Ma wanted everyone to meet her at her place; two of her nephews were blown up yesterday.  Joe knew it and said he was on it. He would be there as soon as he gets all his deputies together.  As Joe turned to head to the office he was blown backwards to the ground unable to hear a thing.  The building was destroyed, he slowly got up and as he stood there he knew no one in there survived.  Joe looked at his brother who was pulling back up to help him and asked how many.  Joe shook his head no he didn’t know as his hearing returned.  He sent his brother on to Ma’s farm.  

Joe’s few deputies that arrived stood next to him as soon as they got out of their cars.  Of his 12 men only had 5 left.  He told them to get their guns that were going to kill the Joker. They went to their car trunks and pulled their weapons of choice.  As Joe grabbed his guns he turned and saw the Joker in a purple leather jacket with a cigar burning bright orange.  Then he saw a flash and then one of his deputies fell backwards then another flash as the Joker walked forward then another and another and then another.  He looked around and saw all his men were laying on the ground or in their car trunks.  The Joker stood in front of him.  Joker grabbed Joe's hair pulling it backwards exposing Joe’s neck Joe’s hands reached up to grab his own neck.  His eyes bulging, unable to speak as he fell to the ground.  Then the Joker urinated on him and laughed.  Joker spotted a pump action shotgun with the pistol style hand grip.  He reached into the sheriff’s trunk and took it along with three boxes of shells.  The fire department was coming up the road and he jumped into the running car with Krusty behind the wheel.  

Meanwhile Ma got news that Joe’s sheriff’s station was blown up and Joe would be there when he gets the rest of his men together.  Ma was yelling and screaming wanting to know what did they do, that got the man upset.   When no one spoke up she looked at her brother and his son  Jeb.  Jeb looked away.  Ma walked over to him and repeated her question.  Jeb said he disrespected you and this family.  He explained that he had Joe arrest two of the Joker's men and teach them a lesson but they got carried away.  It was Bubba that killed the big guy that they called Bozo.  Then they had to do the other fella.  Ma sat down trying to catch her breath and think.  Slowly she looked at her brother Cletus and asked if he approved of that.  The man nodded yes.  She stood up and said you just set this family back, you cost us money and lives.  Then she said to call everyone and get them here now don’t bring anything just get here they needed all hands on deck and here in an hour.      

Part Four

Ma told Bubba to go into the city and hire as many men as he could five hundred dollars each once the job is done.  The Joker has to leave town or he elects to be put in the ground.  Budda looked scared and she asked him.  Budda explained that going into town alone was dangerous and if he can’t get people he’s stuck alone.  Joker is blowing things up; he's as crazy as they say he is.  The man may not want to stay and finish what was started.  Max agreed that Budda may be dumb most of the time but he is spot on.  That they need to give him something for what he lost if he’s even willing to accept a gift.  Ma looked at Max and shook her head.  Budda, see what the Joker wants after you get twenty people to watch your back.  Then come back here immediately.  Max, double up the guards at both factories, get them whatever they need to stay there until this is over with, guns, ammo, food and whatever else they may need to keep them entertained and the product flowing and when all the family make sure we have the same for us.  pass out the guns and make sure that we got food ready for them to eat.  Send some of the women folk to get food enough for the family to eat for a month.  

Meanwhile Joker was at Silver Dollar Sam’s compound.  He wanted to know where the supplies and men were that they called on two days ago.  Doc said they will be here in the morning and Sam’s putting the word on the streets to avoid helping them country boys.  Joker had over thirty sticks of dynamite left and said tonight he was going to hit their pockets, the moonshine and the weed farm.  He asked Silver Dollar what information he had on the steamboats and gambling houses collection.  Sam laid it all out so that the Joker smiled Doc, Nails, Freddie and some of Sam's guys will hit the houses and the boats.   Whispers would wait for the guys coming down and they would rest up and then they will hit the family.  Tonight Joker and Krusty will hit the moonshine.  Tonight they will light up the sky with flames and Ma will wish she never heard the name Joker.  

Doc pulled Joker to the side and they talked about all the killing, Doc said that the feds will have to do something with all this killing, blowing up shit and destroying a sheriff station and all the officers this wasn’t smart.  Joker looked at him then smirked and then explained the following. 

Who's making phone calls?  Who’s crying about crooked cops?  Hoover chases headlines there are none here.  News Papers sell stories that people want to know about.  Do you see the press anywhere?   This is the country and they keep to themselves and as long as I don’t kill civilians or kids the people, police or the mob won't care what or how I get it done.  When I’m through we will never have these issues again, no one will come for me and my people.  Think on this for a few ticks.  The Joker is willing to kill over his friends, your my friend Doc wouldn’t you want revenge if you got wacked while on vacation and you did nothing to cause an issue.  If I don’t do this, who will want to work for me?  Do you realize that if I don’t I’m sending a message that you can do whatever you want to and the Joker and his boys will just roll over and take it.  Bookies wont pay up, we won’t collect the juice on loans or recover on our loans.  Little street gangs will rise up and try us daily.  You, me and the guys will be on the streets eating out of trash cans.  No, Doc this is happening and it doesn’t end until Ma and her boys are put to bed or they give me the person that approved and ordered the hit on Pennywise and Bozo.  I also want the Sheriff’s brother.   

Part Five

Four days have come and gone since the Joker blew up Ma’s moonshine factory and all of her relatives have arrived home with rifles and shotguns and they are stored up with food and ammo.  Meanwhile Bubba's luck has been bad; he hasn't been able to get anyone to join him even his old friends have bowed out from helping him.  Bubba was leaving a bar on bourbon street when he was met by the Joker, Doc, Krusty and Whispers.  Doc reached into Bubba’s pocket taking his truck keys.  Krusty and Whispers walked Bubba to the car with the Joker leaning the way.  They took Bubba to Sam’s compound, locking Bubba in the green house with Whispers, Krusty, Doc and Joker Sam and two of his men were in there too watching the Joker at work.  Joker had his straight razor in his right hand pointing it at Bubba as he spoke.  He asked Bubba what was Ma up to?  Bubba replied she just wants to talk to see what it would take to end this so you could return home and she can go back to business.  Bubba explained he was trying to hire people to watch his back and talk to him.  Joker smiled and said he was holding something back. Bubba still wants to be loyal.  Then the Joker asked why are you loyal when they sent you to talk to me knowing you had no one watching your back.  

Joker explained that he would not kill him and that he would be sleeping in his own bed if he told the truth the full story, however lie or omit one item and Joker would cut a finger and the matching toe.  Bubba then nodded and said that Ma power has been weakened, her income left out on the streets unable to collect.  Her family was about 150 strong but about forty percent of that were women and teenagers.  They have the farm on lock down; you can’t get within twenty yards from the main road up to their home without being seen.  She wants to cut a deal to end this.  Then Joker turned to Silver Dollar Sam and said now your pockets are about to get fatter.  He explained that Ma’s only option now is to reach out to Sam to talk peace.  Sam should demand ten percent of her entire operation to set up the meet at a public place where women and children will be.  That he will call her with the time and place two hours before the meet and she can show up with her Son and brother and nephew and six men to watch their backs, however two of them will stay outside watching the cars and each other.  Guns pistols but if she tries anything all of the five families will be on her like white on rice.  

Then the Joker looked at Bubba as he scratched his head still talking and pointing his razor at Bubba asking him why did he kill Bozo?  Bubba's eyes widened and Doc laughed and said Bubba just peed on himself.  Joker continued, your brother was smart, the men that followed him were trained and had restraint but you, you're just a big dumb brute and only you would be strong enough to challenge Bozo.  It was you that beat him to death while he was tied up wasn’t it. Do worry I’m not going to kill you. I keep my promise so go ahead get it out and remember don’t lie to me I know when people are lying to me.  Looking him squarely in the eyes Bubba said yes.  Joker nodded and said see how easy that was.  Now you can sleep in your own bed.  

The bed of your truck as Joker winked at Krusty who pulled out a baseball bat and beat Bubba to death.  As Krusty was beating Bubba, The Joker was telling Sam that Ma will be calling him by tomorrow morning once they find Bubba's body. Remember to demand ten percent nothing more and not one percent less so that Ma will trust you on setting up the meet.  The men loaded Bubba’s body onto the bed of Bubba’s pick up truck and drove down the main road parking the truck on the main road just in front of the turn off to Ma’s private road that leads up to her house.

The Final Chapter.

Three days past Ma had reached out to Silver Dollar Sam to set a peace meeting between her and the Joker.  He would get 10% of her operation for setting up the meeting.  Joker however set up a new plan with his men.  The meeting took place at the Norman Mayer Library.  Ma arrived with Max and eight of her trusted cousins who played security.  Sam was there with five of his men and Joker was there with Doc, Bane, William Fisk, Flat Top, Hammer Head and Oswald.  Ma started off apologizing for what occurred but said that they had not approved the actions.  Then she handed the Joker five suitcases each filled with a million dollars.  Joker looked at Doc and nodded.  Doc took them and handed One to Bane, William, Hammer, Flat Top and Oswald.  Then the five of them left the meeting.  Joker thanked her and said thank you however they wanted him as their partner and he wanted half.  Ma was confused and looked back at Max and then back at the Joker.  She asked him what he was talking about and the Joker said he wants half of her operations in the gambling houses and river boat casinos.  

Ma said no, hell no but she would give him five percent.  Joker said I told you no but you kept pushing the subject, then two of my best friends you killed and here I am still here.  Ma replied you killed twenty two of her cousins and destroyed her moonshine factory and killed her soldiers meaning the Sheriff and his deputies.  Joke exhaled slowly and said that was for the two men that she had murdered now it was about him and his time and he wanted half fifty fucking percent and then she laugh and said she wasn’t giving up that much of anything she spent her life building.  Joker told her that forty percent is better than a hundred percent of nothing.  She said she would die first.  Joker smiled and said that she had forty five minutes to change her mind before he leaves the meeting.  Ma said fuck you go ahead and leave.  Max stood up and said that they would concede twenty present.  Joker then said its not negotiable but in return he would ensure that she would have his support when they start converting their opium into heroin and he would handle all their distribution needs.  

Ma said not happening.  Then the Joker said it's that or she gives up both brother and nephew who approved the hit.  Then he would take forty percent.  Ma’s face turned white as the Joker said it's that the reason why they are not here?  You got Silver Dollars guarantee that nothing would happen to you here.  Ma said I just handed you five million and again the Joker said that covers the two men now it's time to pay him for his time and they had forty minutes to decide.  Max said mom we can’t keep fighting, we're not making money and we can’t give up uncle Cletus and Julian.   She whispered I should have listened to your father when he told me to keep those two out of the family business. Joker started saying tick tock the clock is ticking and time is fleeting what’s it going to be.  Ma replied thirty percent and not a penny more.  Joker said Fifty but if he takes one percent less than that he wants Cletus and Julian.  Max said that's not going to happen so we can call this meeting a bust.  Joker agreed and Silver Dollar said what about forty percent and one of the two men.  Joker's eyes cut to Silver Dollar at the same time Ma said no.    

Joker nodded and said you got ninety percent of nothing.  Then he and Doc walked out.  Ma yelled take me home.  As she drove home she said nothing until they got to just outside of her home on the main road she saw police cars and other law enforcement vehicles everywhere. They Feds, and the Revenue agents with the local police raided her home.  There were also local coroner’s trucks there.   They were loading up bodies and she saw family members in handcuffs and stepping into the paddy wagons.  The house was riddled with bullets and as she exited the car with Max the Feds walked up to her and addressed her by her government name and slapped the cuffs on her and Max.  They put them into a paddy wagon and hauled them downtown.  She was asking her family members what the fuck happened.  Her oldest cousin said the police rushed the home and someone fired a shot at the police then bullets came flying up to the house then into the house.  Everyone was screaming and then the boys grabbed their guns to fight back but they were falling down dead as they tried to take aim.  She doesn’t know who's still alive or dead but she knows Cletus was hit.      

Four days later Ma was talking with her attorneys and they were explaining what happened.  Her home was raided and confiscated by the government.  They found her ledgers and two million dollars cash and she is facing tax evasion charges, they found Opium and Marijana on the drug charges, there are also murder charges of the killing of the Sheriff Joe Dukes and his men from the rifle that they found in the house.  Ma said there was no rifle, they didn’t touch the Sheriff nor was their opium on the property.  The lawyers said they found fifty pounds of opium and the rifle was in her bedroom according to the police.  That she needed to liquid date some of her businesses.  Ma then realized that it was the Joker that set her up, that’s why he was demanding that outrageous request of fifty percent.  She remembered when he said she has ninety percent of nothing.  She said what does she have to sell and they replied the river boat casinos.  Ma closed her eyes and shook her head no.  She asked where are her judges?  They replied they both resigned the day you were raided they also moved to Vegas.  She was facing Judge George Thomas.  Ma said that’s Silver Dollars Judge.

Then the attorneys told her her brother was dead and Julian has his own attorneys and he is not with the rest of the family.  He was moved two days ago.  Ma’s eyes turned red and said what? The lawyers said they believe he is ratting the family out for a lighter sentence.   They said The sale of the boats will get all her family members released except the men they would be facing prison time.  The money would also go to ensuring that the rest of the family would get a small portion to keep them alive but they would have to get jobs.  Ma wasn’t getting out nor was Max.

She said the local cops planted the weapon in their home and the opium.  The lawyers said yeah the Judge won't accept that excuse he knows that she was a crime boss here and that she bullied people in town.  Ma asked how long was max facing they said forty years unless, unless what she asked unless you take the wrap for everything.  Ma nodded yes but she needed to see Max first.  They said they would try to arrange a meeting under the excuse of preparing their defense.  They then left but the guard told her she had another visitor.  

The Joker walked in with Sam.  Joker sat down and said she should have gone for the settlement demand.  He would have called the Judge and then the search warrant wouldn’t have been signed and the stuff found not planted.  She now has two choices: sell the boats to them for 40 cents on a dollar or Max would meet with an accident in jail.  That they would also ensure that Julian meets his fate in jail but he was going to rat them out.   She will have to spend the rest of her life in prison but her family would be safe and they would buy her farm and return it to Max and the rest of her family can live there after repairs are made.   She chose to go with the sale.  Joker told her that her attorneys would come back in with the needed paperwork to go ahead with the sale. 

Then they walked out.  Sam finally asked what made him go that route.  Joker smiled and said he needed to think bigger, how could he get everything he wanted without losing his men.  Then He shook hands with Sam and said they are now partners in the river boat casino fifty fifty.  Joker would gather the cash up.  Sam asked why not use the five million Ma gave him.  Joker explained that he had those men come down and told them he would pay them a million dollars each so when Ma handed him the money he paid them for work that they didn’t have to do.  Sam asked why the full amount.  Joker looked him in the eyes and laughed, loyalty keeps people willing to help paying them no matter what means when he calls again they will come.
