An Indian wedding Started by: Fanta on Jan 31, '24 16:08

Fanta had received an invitation to attend the reception of one of his many many cousins, back home in India. This was not the first cousin of his getting married and nor would he be the last. Fanta has so many cousins that he lost count of how many weddings he had been to. Only one thing was certain, it was too many. While a wedding, in most cases, bring joy and happiness to the bride and the groom, it is certainly a pain for the people involved in the preparations. And the duty of preparations and management falls on close relatives and the cousins.

Indian weddings are a big affair and certainly expensive, yet it is rare that a family would hire an event management company to organise the reception. The logic put for is, why spend bunch of money to hire professionals when you can force the tasks on close relatives, specially the cousins. From setting chairs and tables, to serving food, to checking if cooks are doing their jobs properly, to ferrying people from home to the Banquet hall, to making sure no guest leaves with a bad taste in mouth, and many more such responsibilities all fall on the weak shoulders of the cousins.

You may wonder why Fanta is complaining so much about the tasks when he himself at the start said he had many many cousins. Well let me put it this way, unlike weddings in the west, Indian weddings are spread over a week, at least, with functions almost every day, so on the actual day of the reception, the cousin brigade is already tired and worn out from managing the smaller yet tiresome functions.

Not only that, for those of you unfamiliar with the grandness of the Indian weddings, let me put it this way, the guest list in a typical Indian wedding can vary from a thousand upto five thousand people. A five hundred to a thousand people in a wedding is considered a dull affair.

After venting to himself Fanta started making preparations to go back to India to attend the functions. While making the arrangements he remembered how HERA always said to him that she wanted to attend a wedding in India, specially for the food. Fanta thought to himself this is a great opportunity for her to finally attend an Indian wedding. So Fanta sent an invitation to HERA to come with him to the wedding. Along with her he also thought of his friend Sylence who is always looking for a reason to party, so Fanta also sent an invitation to him, along with the itinerary.

Now Fanta started counting the days when he would finally be back home with his family after two years.

Wedding bells and mountains of samosas called, and Hera couldn't resist. But there was a tiny twist: her clothes. Fanta had warned her about saris and silk kurtas, not her usual sundress style. But Hera had a secret weapon- Grandma's closet.

Grandma's closet wasn't just a closet. It was a portal to Bollywood. Apparently, Grandma had visited and lived in India before, and she was fond of their fashion. One sari in her closet stole the show. It shimmered like a sunset trapped in silk, the perfect answer to Fanta's "sari situation."

Landing in India felt like stepping into a kaleidoscope. Fanta, in his sherwani, blended in like a chameleon. Hera, however, sashayed in like a sequined runway model. Aunties gaped, uncles chuckled, and kids chased her tassels like tiny sari-obsessed fairies.

Yes, she stuck out like a neon flamingo amidst elegant swans, but who needs elegance when you have pockets full of samosas? Hera charmed aunties with her "namaste"s, learned the bhangra (almost bringing down the dance floor), and ate enough samosas to rival a small elephant.

As the airplane landed in India he stretched his legs before walking down the metal stairs to the awaiting limo. As he got to the concrete he did some more stretching and motioned for one his bodyguards to get him a hat and a cigar. The sun was hot.. hot as hell and he was already sweating within seconds of stepping outside as he dried his sweat on his forehead with 100$ bills before crumping them up and throwing them down to the ground. Lighting his cigar he asked one of his men for the location of Fanta & HERA and a nice cold drink of water but they all shook their head clueless

Where the hell are they at? I fly halfway around the world and here I am sweating my ass off not knowing where the location casino is or the damn wedding

Sylence and his entourage of men wonder around looking super lost just staying by the airport hoping to hear from someone soon before he ended up in some slums

Fanta had made it to India and was busy in preparations. There was a lot to be done and things were tense. Fanta had additional duties too as his friends were coming to India to attend their first Indian wedding. HERA arrived first and Fanta took her to a lot of place so she can buy jewelry to match her sari. They also went to a lot of places to eat all kinds of food and snacks. HERA was particularly obsessed with samosas. Potato samosa, beef samosa, sweet samosa, mini samosas, paneer samosa and much more, there were so many varieties and HERA wanted to try it all.

After eating and shopping for a two days it was finally the day Sylence was arriving and HERA and Fanta had to go pick him up from the airport. They got in the car and headed to the airport but HERA saw this one huge shop making samosa and she had to try them. She almost jumped out of the moving car to get to the shop. Fanta finally agreed to stop for a while to pick up some samosas to go. But HERA had other plans. She went straight to the sitting area and order all the variety of samosa they had, alng with green chutney and sweet sauce.

Fanta was worred they were getting late but HERA won't budge without trying all the variety. Finally after waiting for a while HERA was done with all the samosa and she was so full it felt she was gonna explode. They both got into the car and drove off quickly. Finally they reached the airport where they saw a man standing outside the airport clueless and sweating like a pig.

Fanta jumped out of the car and hugged Sylence. Fanta told him why they were late and apologized to him. Fanta looked for HERA to help him keep the luggage in the trunk but HERA didn't come out of the car, she was sitting ont he back seat having opened the packet of Samosas she had picked up from the shop. Fanta and Sylence looked at her in amusement. Finally they got in and headed back home.

When they finally reached the airport, Fanta apologized to Sylence for being late. But Hera stayed in the car, happily munching on the samosas she bought.

While enjoying her samosas, Hera noticed that both Fanta and Sylence were staring at her. She looked up with a grin and asked, "Want some?"

As he got into the car he told them to blast the air as he had been outside for a long time and was drenched in sweat but luckily he was wearing the best cologne possible so he still smelled good. As he waited for them to drive off he looked at the samosas and nodded yes

Hell yeah I do I had a hell of a trip here.. do you know how long of a flight that was!! I am now land sick from being in the air for so long. I hope it is not too far of a drive as sometimes I get car sick and I could puke without warning.  We will have to get some food too as all I have eaten is alcohol today and yesterday and I might pass out

Sylence looked around at the new country with his eyes wide in amazement at how different things were

Hera was a bit unsure about sharing her samosas at first. The samosas were her special treat, but being polite, she offered some to Fanta and Sylence with a friendly smile, saying, "Want some?"

Sylence eagerly nodded, his exhaustion evident. "Hell yeah I do! I had a hell of a trip here... do you know how long of a flight that was?!" he exclaimed.

As they drove through the lively streets of India, Hera shared stories about each kind of samosa she had tried.

"There was this potato samosa, a real chatterbox of the snack world," Hera chuckled. "I took a bite, and it was like the samosa was auditioning for a stand-up comedy show. 'Why did the potato cross the road? To get to the other fryer!'"

Fanta started driving and looking at HERA and Sylence talk and share samosas. He was amazed HERA actually shared her samosa.

"Don't fill yourself up with those samosas. We are gonna stop at a restaurant for some good food." Fanta told the both of them.

Fanta drove for about 30 minutes before finally reaching their destination. This whole time HERA was munching on samosas disregarding Fanta's advice completely, while Sylence was looking out the window at this new country in an awe.

Once they reached the restaurant Sylence jumped out of the car and asked where the washroom was. Fanta told him and he ran off. Fanta shouted from behind, "Wait for me, I have to pee too." but Sylence didn't stop. "Must be all that liquor", Fanta thought to himself.

Fanta instructed HERA to get a seat and order something while they returned. After finishing up Sylence and Fanta return and find HERA sitting at the table. They joined her and Fanta asked what she ordered. HERA had a wide smile on her face as she told Fanta she ordered Biryani, kebabs. and Mutton stew. Fanta looked at HERA and she still had that wide smile and her eyes were sparkling. Fanta asked HERA what else did she order and HERA told Fanta she also ordered some Mango Lassi, and Cheese samosa.

Fanta and Sylence both looked at HERA in amazement. They couldn't understand her love for samosa but they had no choice. While they waited for the meal Sylence asked if they had some beer, to which Fanta replied no, and told Sylence he was not allowed to drink anymore as long as he was in India.

Sitting at the tables he looked at Fanta with a sad face as he had been denied any alcohol and he was now going to have to be sober which he had not planned on. Looking around he noticed a few beautiful women working at the place as he tried to catch a gaze with every chance he could

Nice place you brought us too even though I am still hot eating outside here, need to get myself a hat or something as soon as possible or I am going to get a sunburn. This is has a long trip but a nice trip so far and I hope my stomach will be ok when I eat the food. I am not sure if I mentioned but sometimes I get sick easy especially when I eat or drink anything mostly but we should be fine.

Sylence motioned to the waitress to bring him another drink as he was sweating from the heat and almost a bit dizzy

Any idea where we are staying tonight and do they have casinos here in this country?
