Favorite Mafia/ Crime Movie Started by: Taylor_Callaghan on Feb 09, '24 03:26

I just recently picked up The Godfather after several years since seeing it last. What a phenomenally interesting movie. I need to rewatch the second as well, as I started picking up/paying attention more to the details of the film on some foreshadowing bits. Even though I generally remembered how it went, the payoff was so much better for some reason.

Thoughts on the Many Saints of Newark? I'm a big sopranos fan and I REALLY didn't like it..

It has to be The Godfather for me. GoodFellas is a close second. There have been loads over the years, though, that are very good, but none even come close to how good The Godfather was, especially for its time.

if we're going off strictly crime movies I got a couple to name. Den of Thieves, The Town, Heat, the Hannibal series, the oceans series

now if we're gonna do mafia movies this is tough, Casino, Goodfellas, the godfather trilogy, the gotti movie from the 90s,

Why I Love Goodfellas
Goodfellas is a cinematic masterpiece that has captivated audiences for decades. Its allure lies in its perfect blend of gripping storytelling, iconic performances, and a raw, unfiltered portrayal of the criminal underworld.
* A Masterful Narrative: The film's rapid-fire editing and Henry Hill's engaging narration create a thrilling and immersive experience. It's a rollercoaster ride through a world of crime, luxury, and paranoia.
* Unforgettable Performances: Ray Liotta, Robert De Niro, and Joe Pesci deliver powerhouse performances that have become iconic. Their chemistry is electric, and their characters are both fascinating and terrifying.
* A Darkly Comedic Tone: While Goodfellas is a serious crime drama, it's also filled with moments of dark humor and witty dialogue. This balance keeps the film engaging and prevents it from becoming overly bleak.
* A Glimpse into a Fascinating World: The film offers a glimpse into the glamorous and dangerous world of organized crime. It's a world of excess, violence, and betrayal, and Scorsese captures it with unflinching honesty.
Goodfellas is a film that has influenced countless filmmakers and continues to inspire new generations of moviegoers. It's a timeless classic that will be enjoyed for years to come.

I recently rewatched American Gangster. I enjoyed it as much as I did nearly 20 years ago. Good script and some of my favorite actors.

Now this isn’t a movie and it isn’t really a mafia show but I started watching The Penguin. Based off the DC character and its rather good, has the huge underground crime vibe to it and not so much of the typical “superhero” type show, even though he is a bad guy. If anyone is looking for something, I’d give it a try.

The Man From U.N.C.L.E. - some British overlord controlling murderous "spies" for his own nefarious purposes? I'm on board!

The Godfather is the best, and the most influential.

Interestingly, I think Goodfellas is probably more popular. Pulp Fiction also needs some serious consideration as one of the most well known mafia uses in film.

"The Irishman" resonated with me on a deeply personal level. As someone who appreciates the nuances of human nature and the passage of time, I found the film's exploration of these themes to be both poignant and thought-provoking. The de-aging technology, while initially intriguing, ultimately served to highlight the characters' inevitable decline, making their stories all the more impactful. The performances, particularly those of De Niro, Pacino, and Pesci, were nothing short of masterful, capturing the essence of aging and the weight of past actions. The film's deliberate pace allowed for a contemplative viewing experience, inviting me to reflect on the complexities of the characters' lives and the consequences of their choices. "The Irishman" is a cinematic masterpiece that lingers in the mind long after the credits roll, leaving a lasting impression on the viewer."

I love godfather trilogy, goodfellas and I really love Scarface, even what Scarface said still ringing in my head every time I remember about Scarface movie.
"You fuck with me, you fuck with the best"
"You need people like me, to point out, that is the bad guy"
"I even tell the truth when I lie"

Love the Godfather. Got to watch it in a vintage cinema in Berlin as well, which added to the experience itself. The cinematography, pacing, acting... everything's great. Nothing can beat it in my opinion. Scarface is good but not nearly as good as the Godfather.

i've gotten few options to talk about mafia movies. My favorite is The Irishman, Martin Scorsese movies are really amazing.  Robert De Niro, Al Pacino e Joe Pesci were the best chosen  to act at this movie.

I watched the Irishman a long time ago. It was one of the best mob movies I had ever seen.

For me, it was better than the godfather 1 and 2 (haven't watched 3 cause I hear it gets ruined), goodfellas and American gangster.

A very underrated mafia movie was Gotti starring Armand Assanti, not the John Travolta one. It was a made for HBO movie back before HBO was producing its own content regularly like it is now and mostly flew under the radar. I didn’t hate the John Travolta one as much as I thought I would but it’s still not as good as the original Gotti movie IMHO
