Morning welcomed the earth, with bright sun coupled with a dewy mist. It had rained the night before, children play in drying puddles. He laid in bed and folded his pillow to cover his face from the light the inched towards him. He eventually shifted his weight to escape the light of day. Just a few more hours sleep he thought to himself. As he did, the limp arm of his evening companion slid of his chest. He examined her, despite his impaired judgment the night before, she seemed fairly attractive. Fair enough, he thought and with that he was asleep again. He awoke again to the smell of bacon and eggs, their sizzling echoed down the hall. Now alone in bed, he reached over and grabbed a pair of jeans in the hamper by the open window, they were damp to the touch from the evening rain... but they would do. Now partially dressed, Sal managed to the kitchen. Despite the mess it was home and more so with the plate of steaming eggs, crispy bacon and buttered toast sitting on the table. Her backed turned to him, at the counter pouring cups of oj. "It's been awhile since you've had a balanced meal?" She asked while spinning handing him a glass of oj. Before taking a slip he replies. "Well, I'm Italian... we're all about balance... and not too much to excess either. Given last night, I drank too much." They share a smile. "Well, eat up before it gets cold." "What about you, your not going to eat?" He asked. Sal knew all to well that his icebox was nearly empty, how she managed to find the resources to prepare this meal was beyond him. "I'll managed." She pulled out the chair and jestered towards it. And so they exchanged stories, the usual. Names, dates, growing up. Weddings, funerals, the good and the bad. Of course he lied through his teeth when it came to work... maybe she could tell, maybe she could'nt. She was a good kid, her parents raised her well... but how she ended up here... After a few minutes of silence... he finally asks "So, what happened last night?" Cold and blunt. Her throat shifts as she swallows, perhaps out of nervousness, the tone and vibes she was releasing seemed to change. "Well, I rather not talk abou-" The phone begin to ring, interupting her. His eyes shift towards the clock. 11:45. He was late for the swoop meet at the State Street station. Quickly maneuvering around the table to reach the phone. BOMP! A sharp yet blunt feeling emanates from the back of his head. He falls to his knees. BOMP! It returns and the sound of shatter glass echo's in his ears. Now lying their hugging the floor, the sharp pain shifts to brief wet and warm sensation before going numb. Late morning turns to night for Sal... all awhile the phone cotinues to blare. Out of the confusion and shock, he barely hears "I'm sorry. As his guest makes her bid farewell. |

Familiar voices were heard. The comfort of having a numb cranium faded. Still sore, but he was still in one piece. His eyes darted open, he was in his living room, propped on his couch. The smell of cigarettes and nervous sweat replaced the smell of breakfast, perfume and sex that occupied his flat just a few hours before, from the looks outside it was late afternoon. Who knows how long he was out, maybe a few hours, maybe a whole day? His senses began to recoup. He could hear voices in the kitchen. He tried to listen in. Mean while, the flushing toilet is heard, and soon enough, the door to the bathroom swung open and out a familiar man emerged, he leaned over Sal, and began to tend to his bandages. "I hope you washed your hands." Sal barks. |

Stagger gives him a sour look. -"You want hygiene? Go to motherfucking France, pops." Stagger finishes up, grumbling. -"Ain't got no friggin' time for this, ain't got the friggin' time for this..." He looks at Sal. -"Your old lady, eh? I prefer 'em fierce, too you know. She dropped her wallet in the staircase." Stagger slumps on the bed and throws Sal a wallet, smilingly lighting a five cent cigar. Then he looks at Sal seriously. -"It's all there you know." |

Sal was hoping to keep the encounter under raps, his face reddened, in embarrassment. He didn't live with many regrets, perhaps he drank too much, he was too trusting of women, especially that were equally good lovers and vipers in the sense. Something made the bitch click, he was eager to find out, sooner then later. "I don't know what happened." He shifts his weight, struggling to sitting. His head begins to throb, more of a nuisance then anything, a painful reminder for the life he leads. "Perhaps a hand?" |

Stagger looks at him funnily. Then helps him up. -"Geez, pops! You need a goddamn croaker! You can barely motherfucking stand. I'll get you to the car." He turns towards the kitchen. -"Ey, you! You're just gonna stand there? Get over here and help me carry him!" |

Lee, Leman and Sal made it downstairs to a roadster that parked outside, two other men were watching the car. They seemed familiar and well enough trustworthy... Despite the pain and frustration he was experiencing, he appreciated the beauty of the car, but he kept that to himself. Only hinting such with a slight smile. They all entered the car and drove towards the country. As Leman suggested, with the windows rolled down. |

Sal remains silence for a few minutes. He needed to clear his head. He clicks the ashes from his cigarette out the open window. "In due time friend." |

| Getting frustrated, but realizing Sal might not want to discuss it, they sat in silence for the rest of the ride. Finally, after 20 minutes or so, they pulled up to a wrought iron gate. Sal got out. | |

Gesters for them to wait in the car. This was family business and Sal had to explain his absence at the swop meet. Something, that Lee or Leman should get into. Hopefully Don Tallieno, some called him "Deviant" due to his sly and cunning nature, would be forgiving. He made his way up to the family compound. Deviant had a nice home, nestled in the southern end of Queen, rustic yet longueable. Making his way to the courtyard, he saw his immediate superior who waved for him to come over. "I don't know what happened this afternoon, but those guns are on the street now and our relations with the southerns has gone sour. I trusted you to oversee this exchange, Do you still have the buy money?" His tone: calm yet unforgiving. Sal begins to explain. "The buy money is safe, I got sidetracked last night, it's a long story... but I feel it's related to..." "That bimbo you picked up?" His superiors tone heavely sarcastic. "I'll fix it." "Good, Deviant wants all those goods before the weekends out, make things work Sal." With that, he returned to his friends outside. He had to find out, if the encounter he experienced earlier was related to the boutched swopmeet. "Lee, you still have that girl's wallet?" |
