MeyerLansky's Origin Story Started by: MeyerLansky on Feb 20, '24 20:03

MeyerLansky emigrated to the United States when he was only 9 years old from Grodno, Russian Empire through the Port of Odessa. Although after the antisemitism and pogroms he experienced in his home country, he would tell those who asked that he was from Poland. He grew up in the Lower East Side of Manhattan and made friends with the likes of Benjamin "Bugsy" Siegel when he was a child. In fact, Bugsy and Meyer created their own little business in the bootlegging trade called the Bugs and Meyer Mob.

In his teenage years, Meyer crossed paths with Charles "Lucky" Luciano when Luciano tried to extort him for protection money after school. To which Meyer promptly responded "you better keep your fuckin' hands to yourself or you'll be the one needing protection." Meyer and Luciano hit it off after that, which started a long lasting partnership between the two.

You see, Luciano had a dream of creating a national crime syndicate to unite the Italian, Jewish, and Irish gangs so that they could all make insane amounts of money. Meyer, having been involved with the Jewish Mob, was the perfect person to help in this endeavor. The two brought in Johnny Torrio and Frank Costello to help make the national crime syndicate a success.

A few years after the national crime syndicate was formed, Meyer found his niche in money laundering and running gambling operations. He was laundering money from New Orleans to Switzerland on a regular basis, which earned him respect amongst the other mobsters as he was keeping their money safe from the Feds.

However it was the gambling operations where Meyer really shined. He had a knack for mathematics and understood the odds of every game and how profitable his casinos could be. He set up gambling operations in Florida and Cuba and ensured these establishments had the utmost integrity. Meyer didn't want his patrons to feel as if the games they played were rigged so he worked hard to train his staff to have high integrity.

After much success in Florida and Cuba, Meyer felt it was time to take his expertise to the big time, Las Vegas. He didn't know anybody in Vegas particularly well, but knew his connections to Luciano and the Italian-American Mafia would help him succeed. He decided to reach out to Petah, the new Godfather of Paradise, a section of Nevada that surrounded The Strip.

Through his connections, Meyer was lucky enough to get a meeting with Petah.

"Godfather Petah! It's great to meet you and I appreciate you taking the time to sit with me. I know you don't know me from Adam, but I've got plenty of references like Lucky Luciano, Bugsy Siegel, and I even worked with Arnold Rothstein back in the day, God rest his soul. I've got some very successful gambling operations in Florida and Cuba, I run them with integrity so the patrons always think they are getting a fair shake. I also have quite a bit of experience laundering money and can bring that expertise to you. I would love the opportunity to work with you and help grow Paradise, what do ya think?"

Meyer and Petah discussed Meyer's experience with the gambling operations and money laundering. They discussed some of Petah's vision for the future and Meyer made it clear he was willing to work his way from the bottom to prove his worth. The meeting ended with Petah telling Meyer he would contact Meyer's references and let him know in a day or so.

The wait was killing Meyer. He passed the time by gambling at the various Vegas establishments to get a feel for the place and see how he could improve things. He also spent quite a bit of time at the gentleman's clubs and cigar joints. Finally 2 days later, as Meyer was sitting at the local cigar shop smoking one of his favorite sticks a big burly guy dressed in an all black suit walked in and approached Meyer. Meyer recognized him as one of Petah's bodyguards he had seen at their initial meeting. The bodyguard addressed Meyer:

"You're Meyer Lansky, yes?"

Meyer shook his head

"Godfather Petah said give you this"

The bodyguard reached into the breast pocket of his jacket and Meyer couldn't shake the feeling he was about be shot, but luckily the bodyguard pulled out an envelope, handed it to Meyer, and promptly left the cigar shop.

Meyer opened the enveloped and read the note inside as he took a draw on his cigar

I checked you out and it seems like you're legit, welcome to the family kid.

Now don't fuck it up and go make me some money.

-Petah

Meyer gave a big sigh of relief that the wait was over and he was in! He finished his cigar, ran out of the shop, and quickly got to work making drug deals, extorting shop owners, and robbing banks to prove his worth.
