The neon lights of Los Angeles flickered dimly in the distance as Kenny leaned against the rusted gas pump, filling up his father's battered car. His hands trembled as memories flooded his mind, memories of a man he both loved and feared, a man who had shaped his life in ways he couldn't yet comprehend.
Kenny's father had been an earner in the gangster underworld, a brute force of nature whose fists spoke louder than his words. Kenny knew little of his father's dealings beyond the glimpses he caught, the shopkeepers beaten, the protection money extorted. Yet, despite the violence that tainted their relationship, Kenny couldn't shake the love he felt for the man who had raised him.
It was on a morning like any other that Kenny's world shattered. The sun had barely risen, casting long shadows across the desolate streets of Miami. Gunshots shattered the stillness of the air, echoing off the crumbling facades of the tenement buildings. Kenny's heart lurched in his chest as he spun around, eyes wide with horror. There, before him, lay his father, sprawled across the car, his lifeblood staining the glass windshield.
In the chaos that followed, Kenny's mind raced with questions. What had his father been involved in? Who had wanted him dead? He remembered the tension that had hung heavy in the air that morning, the sense of unease that had clung to his father like a shroud. Something had been brewing beneath the surface, something dangerous and deadly.
As Kenny stood there; numb with shock and grief, a fire ignited within him. He vowed to avenge his father's death, to hunt down the ones responsible and make them pay. But first, he needed to disappear, to lay low until he could gather his strength and seek out the truth.
With nothing but the clothes on his back and the weight of his father's memory heavy in his heart, Kenny fled to the sprawling streets of Los Angeles, a city teeming with secrets and shadows. He was thin, he was weak, and he was hungry, but he was determined to carve out a new life for himself, one built on vengeance and the echoes of his father's violent legacy.
Los Angeles welcomed Kenny with open arms; it was ran by Godfather DeadIrishman. Kenny found refuge in the shadows…. He learned to survive, to navigate the intricate web of alliances and betrayals that defined life on the streets.
But even as he forged ahead, Kenny couldn't shake the memories that haunted him, the image of his father's lifeless body etched into his mind. He sought solace in the bottom of a bottle, drowning his sorrows in cheap whiskey and bitter regret. Yet, no amount of alcohol could numb the pain, the ache of loss that gnawed at his soul.
In his darkest moments, Kenny found himself drawn back to the events that had led to his father's death. He retraced his steps, piecing together fragments of memory in search of answers. He recalled the tension that had simmered beneath the surface, the whispered conversations and furtive glances that had preceded the fatal confrontation.
And then, like a bolt from the blue, it struck him. His father's involvement in the moonshining operation in Florida, the clandestine meetings and secret deals that had kept food on the table and a roof over their heads. Kenny remembered the fear in his father's eyes, the knowledge that their precarious existence could come crashing down at any moment.
Armed with this revelation, Kenny set out on a journey of discovery, determined to uncover the truth behind his father's death. He need to track down old associates of his father, plying them with questions and promises until they relented, revealing the secrets they had long kept hidden. But first he needed money…how was he going to earn it? He needed to find refuge and a place to call home before anything from his past caught up with him in a deadly and traumatic way. |

The streets of Los Angeles were unforgiving...a maze of alleys and neon signs that offered both hope and despair in equal measure. Kenny wandered aimlessly at first, his mind a fog of grief and confusion. The weight of his father’s death pressed heavily on his shoulders, but the spark of vengeance in his heart kept him moving.
Days turned into weeks, and Kenny's situation grew more desperate. He was thin, weak, and hungry. The few dollars he had managed to scrape together were quickly running out. His nights were spent in abandoned buildings or under bridges, the cold concrete his only companion. He needed to find a way to survive, to earn enough to begin his quest for answers.
One evening, as he huddled in the shadows of a rundown bar smoking his cigarette; Kenny overheard a conversation that piqued his interest. Two men, very rough around the edges and reeking of whiskey themselves were discussing a job — something that promised a decent payout for a man with the right skills.
Kenny approached them cautiously, his heart pounding in his chest. "I couldn't help but overhear," he said, trying to keep his voice steady. "I'm looking for work. I can handle myself. I know I don't look like much but just give me an opportunity. Let me prove myself"
The men eyed him sceptically, sizing him up. "What's your name, kid?" one of them asked.
"Kenny. Kenny Marino."
Recognition flickered in the man's eyes. "Marino, huh? Any relation to Big Tony Marino from Miami?"
Kenny's heart skipped a beat. "He was my father," he replied, the pain of the admission evident in his voice.
The men exchanged glances, then nodded. "Alright, kid. We might have something for you. Meet us here tomorrow night."
The following evening, Kenny returned to the bar as instructed. The men introduced him to a third figure, a shadowy man who went by the name of Tommy "The Knife." Tommy was a mid-level enforcer for DeadIrishman - the very well respected Godfather of Hollywood who controlled much of the city's underworld. Tommy explained the job: a debt collection from a local business owner who had been skimming off the top.
Kenny hesitated for a moment, the memory of his father's brutal methods fresh in his mind. But he pushed the doubt aside. He needed the money, and this was his chance to prove himself. With a grim determination, he accepted the job. |

The next day, Kenny found himself outside a small, struggling restaurant. The sun had just dipped below the horizon, casting long shadows across the quiet street. Kenny took a deep breath, straightened his jacket, and stepped inside, his eyes scanning the room for his target.
The owner was a middle-aged man with worry lines etched deeply into his face, signs of a hard life Kenny thought to himself. "We need to talk," Kenny said, his voice cold and authoritative. "You've got a debt to settle."
The man stammered, trying to explain. "Please, I just need a little more time..."
Kenny cut him off, his expression hardening. "Save it. You know what's owed. I'm here to collect. Can you fucking pay or not?"
The confrontation was brief but intense. Kenny's heart pounded in his chest as he leaned on the man, using his size and presence to intimidate. It was a skill he'd learned from his father, though he'd never imagined he'd be using it in the same way. In the end, the owner handed over the money, his hands shaking as he did it. “This is all I have. Please…please don’t take it all. I’ll have nothing left” Kenny stubbed out his cigarette on the restaurant table cloth before he snapped back “Then you should of fucking thought about that and raised some of your fucking prices. I’m just a man doing a job..you’re just a man doing a job..it’s nothing personal”
As Kenny walked away, a mix of emotions swirled inside him. The job had been a success, and he'd earned enough to get by for a while. But the satisfaction was tainted by the realisation that he was following in his father's footsteps, becoming part of the very world he despised. Kenny was wrestling with his own internal thoughts and how he needed to do this job…he promised he’d prove himself...did he really want to go back to sleeping under a bridge? Getting spat on by the police? No - he knew this was a way to make a life; even if it was one for now he was extremely uncomfortable with.
Back at the bar, Tommy "The Knife" nodded approvingly as Kenny handed over the cash. "Good work, kid. Maybe there's a place for you here after all."
Kenny accepted the praise silently, his mind already turning to the next step. He needed to earn more, to build his strength and resources if he was ever going to uncover the truth behind his father's death. Each job brought him closer to his goal, and he was willing to do whatever it took. The thoughts of his father consumed Kenny every minute of every day. He knew if he was getting into this life..and it currently looked like the only way to survive..that death was almost certain. Yet until that day came; he had a job to do.
Over the next few weeks, Kenny took on more assignments, each one a test of his resolve and his ability to navigate the treacherous Los Angeles underworld. He learned to blend in, to listen for the whispers of information that might lead him to his father's associates. The city was a labyrinth of secrets, and Kenny was determined to uncover them all.
His reputation for reliability and skill grew, and so did his network of contacts. One night, after a particularly tough job, he found himself in the company of a man named Sal "Silk" Romano. Sal was a smooth-talking gambler who seemed to know everyone and everything. He had connections that ran deep, and Kenny knew that getting close to him could be the key to finding out more about his father's death. All paths currently let back to Sal. Tommy "The Knife" had worked for Sal for almost 3 years; survived 6 hits and knew one day soon his time would be up. But for now Kenny just needed both men on side if he was to find out the man responsible for his fathers death.
They sat in a smoky back room of an upscale club, the air thick with the scent of cigars and whiskey. Sal leaned back in his chair, eyeing Kenny with a mixture of curiosity and amusement. "So, you're the new kid everyone's talking about. Big Tony's boy, right?"
Kenny nodded, taking a sip of his drink. "That's right. I'm looking for information. I need to find out who killed my father."
Sal raised an eyebrow, a sly smile playing at the corners of his mouth. "Revenge, huh? Dangerous game you're playing, kid. But I might be able to help. For a price."
Kenny leaned forward, his eyes locked on Sal's. "Name it."
Sal chuckled softly. "I like your spirit. Tell you what, I've got a job that needs doing. A little side hustle that's been causing me some headaches. You handle it for me, and I'll see what I can dig up about your old man."
Kenny agreed, his determination unwavering. The job turned out to be more complicated than he had anticipated. It involved tracking down a group of smugglers who had been cutting into Sal's profits, operating out of the docks on the city's outskirts. Kenny spent days staking out the area, gathering intel, and planning his move.
The night of the operation, Kenny felt a familiar mix of anxiety and adrenaline. He slipped through the shadows, his every step calculated and precise. He was dressed in all black, Sal had fitted him up at his own tailors. Kenny was getting used to the treatment now - new clothes, a stomach full of sirloin steak, a fine taste for red wine by the bottle. If this was going to be a success he needed to be on his game. Completing just 1 job for Sal was nothing - every small jumped-up prick looking for a break could do that; but 2 jobs? This was scoping out smugglers who were trained to spot this kind of stuff was going to be far more challenging.
Kenny; feeling pumped full fear and anxiety set off into the night to scope out the smugglers to see what he could find. |

The docks loomed before Kenny like a silent fortress, shrouded in darkness and mist. The salty breeze carried the distant sound of waves crashing against the shore, mingling with the occasional creak of old wood and the rustle of rats scurrying among the crates. Kenny moved like a shadow, blending into the night, his senses heightened and every nerve on edge. His newly tailored fitted black suit caused him to be practically invisible.
Sal had provided him with minimal details, just enough to point him in the right direction. The smugglers operated out of a decrepit warehouse at the far end of the docks, their activities shrouded in secrecy. Kenny had spent days observing from a distance, learning their routines and the layout of their hideout. Now, it was time to act.
He approached the warehouse cautiously, sticking to the shadows and avoiding the pools of light cast by the occasional flickering streetlamp. The building itself was a hulking structure of metal and broken windows, surrounded by stacks of shipping containers and piles of discarded equipment. Kenny's heart pounded in his chest as he neared the entrance, his mind racing with thoughts of what lay inside.
Peering through a crack in the warehouse door, Kenny saw a group of men gathered around a table, their faces illuminated by the dim glow of a single hanging bulb. They were rough-looking characters, their expressions hard and suspicious. Crates of what looked to be fresh Columbian cocaine were stacked against the walls.
Kenny waited for the right moment, his breath steady and controlled. He needed to get closer, to find a way to disrupt their operation and make a statement. He spotted a stack of empty crates near the back of the warehouse, providing the perfect cover. Silently, he slipped inside, moving from shadow to shadow until he was within striking distance.
The air was thick with tension as Kenny prepared to make his move. He pulled a length of sturdy rope from his jacket, fashioning it into a makeshift garrotte. His eyes locked onto his first target, a burly man with a scar running down his cheek. Kenny crept up behind him, the garrotte taut in his hands.
In one swift, violent motion, Kenny looped the rope around the man's neck, pulling it tight and cutting off his air. The smuggler's eyes bulged in surprise, his hands clawing at the rope as he struggled for breath. Kenny held firm, his muscles straining with the effort. Within moments, the man's struggles ceased, and he slumped to the ground, lifeless. This was the first time Kenny had taken a man’s life. Was he any better than the mobster who gunned down his father, Tony Marino.
The other smugglers turned at the sound, their faces contorting in shock and anger. Kenny didn't give them a chance to react. He lunged at the nearest one, a knife flashing in his hand. The blade found its mark, slicing through flesh and bone with a sickening ease. Blood sprayed across the table, painting the scene red.
Chaos erupted as the remaining smugglers scrambled for their weapons, but Kenny was relentless. He moved with a savage grace, every strike precise and lethal. He disarmed one man with a swift kick to the wrist, then drove his knife into the man's chest, feeling the resistance of muscle and bone. Another smuggler charged at him with a metal pipe, but Kenny dodged the blow and retaliated with a crushing elbow to the face, followed by a brutal knee to the groin. The bodies were dropping like flies; it was only through adrenaline and pure reactions that Kenny was able to do this. He was casting his mind back to all the times his father and beaten the shit out of him. He was using moves on enemies that he never knew he possessed. The demons inside Kenny had well and truly risen and lay deep beneath his subconsciousness.
The fight was a blur of violence and bloodshed, each moment a desperate battle for survival. Kenny's mind was a haze of rage and determination, his only goal to dismantle the operation and send a message. By the time the last smuggler fell, gasping for breath and clutching a knife wound in his side, the warehouse was a scene of carnage.
Kenny stood amidst the wreckage, his chest heaving with exertion. His clothes were stained with blood, his hands trembling from the adrenaline. He wiped the sweat from his brow, taking a moment to catch his breath. The smugglers lay scattered around him, their bodies broken and defeated.
He turned his attention to the crates of cocaine, knowing that simply killing the men wasn't enough. He needed to send a clear message to anyone who might think of crossing Sal "Silk" Romano. Kenny grabbed a canister of gasoline from a nearby shelf, dousing the crates and the floor with the flammable liquid. The acrid smell filled the air, mingling with the metallic scent of blood.
With a flick of his lighter, Kenny ignited the gasoline, watching as flames roared to life and began to consume the warehouse. The fire spread quickly, licking up the walls and engulfing the crates in a fierce inferno. The heat was intense, driving Kenny back as he watched the blaze take hold.
Satisfied that the job was done, Kenny slipped back into the night, leaving the burning warehouse behind him. The orange glow of the fire lit up the sky, a beacon of destruction visible from miles away. Kenny knew that word of the attack would spread quickly, solidifying his reputation as a force to be reckoned with.
As he made his way back to the club, Kenny's mind was a whirlwind of thoughts. The violence had come easily to him, too easily. Each kill, each act of brutality, had felt like a step further down a path he wasn't sure he wanted to follow. But the memories of his father's death, the image of his lifeless body sprawled across the car, fuelled his resolve. He would stop at nothing to find the truth and exact his revenge, no matter the cost.
When he arrived at the club, Sal was waiting for him in the back room, a look of satisfaction on his face. "I heard about the fire," he said, his voice filled with approval. "You did good, kid. Real good. I knew you had it in you."
Kenny handed over a bundle of documents he'd taken from the warehouse, evidence of the smuggler's operations. "Here's everything I could find," he said, his voice flat. "Now, about my father..."
Sal's smile faded slightly, replaced by a look of genuine interest. "You did your part, so I'll do mine," he said. "Give me a few days to dig around. I'll find out what I can about your old man."
Kenny nodded, feeling a flicker of hope. He was one step closer to uncovering the truth, but he knew that the road ahead would only get more dangerous. The underworld of Los Angeles was a treacherous place, filled with men who would kill for less than a wrong look. But Kenny was determined, driven by a fire that no amount of blood could extinguish.
The following days were a blur of activity. Kenny continued to take on jobs, each one a test of his abilities and his willingness to do whatever it took to survive. He honed his skills, becoming more adept at navigating the city's criminal underbelly. His network of contacts grew, and so did his reputation as a man not to be trifled with.
One evening, as Kenny sat nursing a drink in the club, Tommy "The Knife" approached him. "Sal's got some information for you," he said, his voice low. "He wants to see you in his office."
Kenny's heart raced as he followed Tommy through the club to a private office in the back. Sal was waiting for him, a manila folder on the desk in front of him. "I've got something for you," Sal said, his expression serious. "It's not much, but it's a start."
Kenny took the folder, his hands trembling slightly. Inside were a series of documents, photographs, and notes. As he flipped through them, a picture began to emerge. His father had indeed been involved in more than just moonshining. He had been sitting on a treasure trove of information, secrets that could bring down some of the most powerful men in the underworld.
One name stood out among the rest: Vincent "The Viper" Moretti. The documents hinted at a connection between Moretti and a series of high-profile assassinations, including Kenny's father. It was clear that Moretti had seen Tony Marino as a threat, a loose end that needed tying up.
Kenny's blood boiled as he read through the information. This was the lead he had been waiting for, the key to uncovering the truth and avenging his father's death. He looked up at Sal, his eyes filled with determination. "Thank you," he said, his voice steady. "This means everything to me."
Sal nodded, a look of respect in his eyes. "Be careful, kid. Moretti's dangerous, and he's got eyes everywhere. You'll need to play this smart if you want to get to him."
Kenny nodded, already formulating a plan in his mind. He would take down Moretti piece by piece, dismantling his empire until there was nothing left. It would be a long and dangerous journey, but Kenny was ready. He had come this far, and he wouldn't stop until he had justice for his father.
As he left Sal's office, Kenny felt a renewed sense of purpose. The neon lights of Los Angeles flickered overhead, casting long shadows on the streets below. Kenny knew that he was walking a perilous path, but he was no longer alone in his quest. He had allies, information, and a burning desire for revenge. And he would stop at nothing to see it through. |
