The Sopranos Anyone? Started by: Tony-Luciano on Dec 19, '11 03:22

I missed the first three seasons of the Sopranos and was able to watch the last few seasons as they were airing. I would go back and forth with myself over which show was better The Sopranos or the Wire. I think the Wire is slightly better (The best tv show of all-time imo).

I agree with a previous poster, the storylines were coming to an end, maybe they could have squeezed one more season but it was time. The ending for me at first was stupid, I was only 19 or 20 at the time. Having gone back through and watching a few times as an older adult, the end for me is now marvelous. It is haunting if you look at it from the perspective of Tony's death.

I wasn't a huge fan of the ending because it was so speculative. Of course many people suggested it was Tony getting shot, but that's only because it would seem to be an appropriate ending, but the scene itself gave us nothing to assume that. So what happened? They all had a nice meal, went home, and went to bed? Who knows.  They could have left the ending open like they did, but with perhaps some clues or other information in order to know if things went bad or what.

Yeah the Wire was my favourite show. Fully agree. Sopranos is up there though. Shamelesss and breaking bad are there with it.

RIP James Gandolfini. Not much chance of a reunion with him dead. Very unfortunate.

Put me in, Coach!

Been watching The Sopranos over and over, for like 10 years now. Great series.

It was good when it was on. Probably been long enough for a Re-watch now, my only worry is it won’t seem as good second time round…what if tv has gradually evolved and it seems dated?!

In a lot of ways The Sopranos is even better on the 2nd watch, you pick up on things you wouldn't have noticed the first time around

Everyone crushes on Tony when watching the sopranos. It's a great show. Rest in peace James.

I haven't watched that show in a long time but coming across this thread makes me want to watch it again! One of the best shows to hit TV..

The series is fantastic. One of the best, and I'm not just talking about the crime genre, but in general. Characters, actions by episodes and seasons really done to the max. But honestly I would give a very very small edge to The Wire series. All recommendations, if you haven't seen it, you must watch it.

This is by far one of the best. I just rewatched Seasons 1-2. About to start Season 3. The character development is there. The story lines and the emotion is just right on point.

on a side note, I would love to see new sopranos like show to aire in 2024.

Never got into it personally. I think I watched a couple episodes in my wee younger days, but not sure if it was a lack of interest or maybe I was just too busy at the time to sit down and watch a series thru? Who knows...

Definitely worth watching. I enjoyed it back when it first run, can look a little dated now i think, but still stands up as one of the best shows imo.

Like most tv shows though, shit ending.

I have watched the entire series from beginning to end more times than I can count. It is probably the best show of all time. The early seasons were definitely better, and there where a few ho-hum moments in later seasons, but for the most part the series stayed interesting and provoking throughout its entire run.

It ranks as my favourite show of all time. Having been through it 3 times start to finish, I now just pick a random episode if one shows up on the TV guide.

Like many programs, you're always rooting for the main character, but by the 3rd watch you hate the bastard, a la Breaking Bad.

Paulie is one of my favourite characters of all time.

Also - did not rate The Many Saints of Newark one bit, felt a bit cringe to me.

I still watch it every now and then. Always nice to have something old and familiar to watch. Pretty good classic little show.

RIP James Gandolfini.

I watched the first episode and never went back so I'm thinking of finally sitting in and watching it. Hopefully it's as good as everyone has claimed it is tbh I'm hard to please for drama tv series. Fingers crossed 🤞🏼

It really is. Do it - you wont regret it.

I've never really got into this show. I tried a few times but I could never feel much for any of the characters and felt like I didn't care much at all about any of them. Falling in love with the therapist? A bit of a cliché for me.

YerDaSellsAvon I always compare a tv show to whether it's as good as Sons of Anarchy or The Shield. If I can get into it by that standard then I'll like it if I can't then I lose interest and stop so hopefully it picks up by the second or third episode.
