Meeting At The Midnight Started by: Kenny on May 27, '24 08:33

A few days had passed since the great warehouse fire, Kenny now had the name of who he held responsible for his fathers murder.. A powerful mobster named Vincent “The Viper” Moretti. Ever since his conversations with Sal and discovering this information; Kenny was unable to sleep one wink, he’d already murdered 3 people in cold blood just to get to this stage. However Kenny was not going to rest until Moretti was sleeping with the fishes.

Kenny knew that without help, he’d die quicker than his father and the three smugglers at the dock. He needed help from alliances that he’d formed with Sal “Silk” Romano and Tommy “The Knife” – they both didn’t owe Kenny favours; of course not. If he’d even start a conversation that way Sal would ensure he wouldn’t leave the bar. He needed to pitch an idea for help, and not cause offence at the same time. Maybe Tommy was a better option. Although not as powerful as Sal. He could still get things done. Kenny knew that being in debt to Sal could be dangerous..a bit too dangerous for his liking.

Tommy was a easy enough man to track down, Kenny entered The Midnight Lounge. The speakeasy where Tommy was based. If he wasn’t at the bar sinking whiskey he was in the back hosting a rigged poker game. It was one of Tommy’s main incomes. No income was legitimate for a mobster. So Kenny couldn’t judge Tommy for earning his living out of a rigged card game. Hey - Tommy's fast hands were good for slight of hand poker deals, what else could they be used for?

As Kenny entered The Midnight Lounge he approached the barman “I’m looking for Tommy, have you seen him?” The barman held up the crystal tumbler to the light before breathing on it one more time to remove a stubborn lipstick stain. “Yeah, he’s in the back. I’ll let him know you’re here Kenny” and with that he left Kenny at the bar smoking a cigarette before promptly Tommy walked out, shook Kenny by the hand. Kenny then tipped his flat cap towards Tommy’s direction as a sign of respect. Kenny did still fear Tommy; yet he dared not show any weakness.

Tommy bellowed at Kenny “I heard you were back in the neighbourhood kid. Fuck me you really caused a scene out in that dock, it took the cops 3 weeks to clean up that shit you left behind. But jesus you left a fucking message didn’t ya” Kenny let out a wry smile “Tommy since arriving in LA with nothing more than the clothes on my fucking back. I’ve had one aim and that is to track down who was responsible for my fathers murder. I’ll stop and nothing until Vincent Moretti is dead. I need your help in making sure that happens”

“Kid there’s a saying in this thing of ours, death is the only guaranteed outcome. You know that right? We live each day as if it’s our last. We do what we gotta do, we kill who we gotta kill. But it’s always business. It’s not personal. If you’re saying Vincent Moretti ordered the hit on your father. It’s personal and it’s also a fucking suicide mission. I like you kid, you have talent and potential to be good in this world. Vincent runs the whole of state of Florida. You won’t get near him”

Kenny took a shot of his whiskey before slamming the glass on the table. He once again was letting his emotions getting in the way of his judgement, showing weakness almost. But he didn’t care. “Tommy you don’t fucking understand, that piece of shit ordered the hit on my father, are you saying if you was in my position you wouldn’t be doing all you could to track down and hold the person responsible.”

Tony squinted his eyes at Kenny before rolling them towards the ceiling. “I heard good things about your old man Kenny. Really good things. He was a solid worker from what I heard, never complained and just done his fucking job. It’s a shame he left you when he did. But do you really think he’d want you running around this town like an unhinged maniac acting irrational and no doubt getting yourself killed in the process the way you’re running your mouth?” Tony paused before putting his arms out and pulling Kenny towards him “As I told you a million times; I like you kid. I really do. I can see that talking you out of this isn’t going to happen. What do you need from me?”

Kenny went into detail with Tommy as to how this had to start. He had to target Moretti’s operations individually, piece by piece. In order to be known to Moretti, Kenny needed to target him financially. The first operation to tackle was the gentleman’s clubs. Kenny let out a small chuckle “I’m going to start with the girls. Withdrawing these working ladies from Moretti the seedy pricks will turn against him quicker than a withdrawal of any moonshine and drugs Tommy. Men have few needs in this game. Taking their lust away first will speed up my plan ten fold” Tommy held up his glass tumbler to Kenny before chinking his glass and letting out the first laugh Kenny had ever witnessed “You know what kid, you’ve got fucking balls. You have a way of talking people round. I’m in; but this isn’t gonna be easy. Far from it. There ain’t a chance in hell I’m dying for you and so far that’s the only guarantee. I’m in, I’ll help but we need some fucking muscle. Capiche?”

“I understand” said Kenny, “Thank you for sticking with me. I owe you. You’re the guy with contacts and we need some muscle to hit Moretti hard and fast. Who do you have that can help us?” Tommy paused for a moment to think “I have a couple of guys in mind. Meet me back here in three days, come to the back office. We can sit down and have a chat to figure out how this is gonna go down and what the chances are that you’re gonna end up dead.”
