The Goodbye Letter Started by: DemonicAngel on Jul 04, '24 20:01

DemonicAngel sat in her small apartment looking at the box of her father's belongings that had been sent to her from the west coast. She had been at school when things went crazy, but the worst part was the knock on the door by the man holding the box and telling her that her father had been killed in a war and these were his final possessions.

Sitting on the couch with a glass of wine she began to sort the contents, pulling out the old book he used to keep on his desk and the photo of her. She was so confused about how all of this had happened. As she picked up his old family bible that he never read she saw an envelope. It was new and had her father's signet seal.

Opening the envelope, she saw her father's writing and starting with the words:

To whom it may concern,

I am sitting at my desk for probably the last time, so I thought I would explain myself briefly. I wish for everyone to know that my actions were not done in malice or even anger. In fact I did everything I knew to do in order to prevent this. However at this point my back is against the wall and I am at a point where I have to make a decision. I can continue as I have under the hopes that I will be spared with no connections to those who control our world, or I can fight with those who have stood with me and given me a chance.

And so the truth of it, over the last 3 days I have received word that the east coast is making plans to move on the city either in part or whole. And so with no way to know and with everything else that has transpired and with a very heavy heart I have decided to go out fighting and hope that those who have trusted me both from outside but more importantly those who trusted me with your lives will be able to understand.

I am not asking for anyone to forgive me as I believe I am doing the right thing, only to understand why I am doing it and to know that my actions and decisions should reflect on me, not those who followed orders as they were supposed to.

And to my daughter, I know you will always hold you head high and live the ways you have known and be the person people know, be my daughter.

Sincerely,

Irish.

After reading the letter DA slowly took a sip of her wine and laid the letter on the table. She understood her father had wanted to protect his people and that was something she would be proud of. She would move on in honor of the man who only ever wished to serve and help others and she smiled as she thought about how she could help her family and city. Sitting back against the sofa she let her mind wander both into the past and the future as she fell asleep.
