The Scamland Projects (Hop right in) Started by: Jenny_Arcascos on Jul 29, '24 05:21

Jenny couldn't believe her eyes. A large stretch of land, filled with variable-quality hemp-brick homes, is now within sight. The noisy sounds of bulldozers crushing old structures seemed like a tune of progress for hustlers and dreamers alike. Jenny was certain that this land was a half-ghetto, barely two months ago. And now, back from her Vegas trip, Jenny understood how fast New York can be.

"Hey, yo, what's with the brown homes?" Jenny asked a scruffy worker with a hard hat. She then lit a cigarette.

"Made of hemp. But our bricks are different. There's a special process involved. Makes the whole thing sturdier."

"Heh, I should tell this to my uppers. Hemp. That's a new-generation biz, you hear me." Jenny smiled.

The man smiled as well, but he was distracted by Jenny's flamboyant and loud neon purple blazing hair.

"Wanna buy a home in advance? We have ten units ready, ma'am."

"Haha! I'd like to be called Ma'am. How nicey nice. Wha's your name, mate?" Jenny was more concerned of being called ma'am.

"Morningspoon, ma'am. I'm Morningspoon." Morningspoon offered his hand.

Jenny almost blurted out a laugh, but she remained professional and shook the guy's hand. Morningspoon -- a great name, one for the books.

"Ey, Morning...uhh...what's this place called? And why hempy homes, brodda?"

"SCAMLAND PROJECTS!" Morning exclaimed, proudly. "Owned by none other than Robber Scamland. You know him, the silent tycoon. He plans to run for Senator. Hemp homes, they're easy to make, but can definitely withstand time and exposure. We plan to lease units to people, you know, maybe to help our city's residential troubles."

Jenny observed the whole perimeter of the area. There's still no fence, and large pipes are scattered all over. Most of the workers are chilling, enjoying one cigarette after another.

This could be a nice hangout area, barbecue, or a place for I don't know, scams?? Jenny thought deeply. She puffed her cigarette.

"Listen, Morning," Jenny leaned closer. "Imma be real with you. This place, this whole shindig? Wiseguy bait. Sooner or later, you'd see honorable friends wanting a slice of the neat pie."

"Uh-huh, well...uhh...security will be - "

Jenny snapped her fingers in front of Morning's eyes. "Yer not readin me right, hot stuff. Now, you're my contact here. You're mine. Y'should really take me to your manageyr."

"Manageyr? Oh! Manager....yeah....he's on a break...haven't seen him around for two days now." Morning wiped his brow.

"Even better. I be manager-for-a-day! Let's cut a deal, Morning. You and me. I offer protection, yer now under the graces of Don Kairi. You've read about her in the papers?"

Morning sweated, and then nodded. Jenny's eyes turned sharp, and her head slightly cocked to the right.

"I didn't even get the papers." Morning corrected himself.

"Good. Am I right? Wrong? There's a pile of hemp bricks here?" Jenny finished her cigarette and offered one to Morning.

"I don' smoke, ma'am..."

"Take it. Pretend that you smoke." Jenny forced the cigarette to Morning's lips. She even lit it.

The first puff made Morning cough like a kid who choked on taffy. Seconds later, Morning adjusted and blew smoke, with mild variable coughs.

"Yer good, yer good. Take me to the pile of hempstuff, kay?"

Morningspoon did as he's told, taking Jenny further to the back, and beyond the operating bulldozers. He saw Jenny draw a silvery pistol as soon as they're out of anybody's vision, covered by old broken buildings and half-finished brown homes.

Moments later, Jenny saw the big pile of hemp bricks. The pile, based on Jenny's estimate, is as big as an elephant. Some of the bricks are broken, while most are intact.

"I'll drive here later. Have yer boys prep fifty stacks. I get my fifty, and I give you a reward."

"Uhhh...what about my job?"

"HOW ABOUT YOUR LIFE, BRA?" Jenny aimed her pistol at Morning's chest. "Sweetie, listen, I gotya covered. Don't make this ass-difficult."

"...aye....I don't know you..."

"Name's Jenny. Jenny from the block. I live around these parts. Maybe I'm your neighbor. We got a deal?"

Morning nodded, fearful for his life. He then shook Jenny's hand, his palm sweating more than his chest and back.

"Ew," Jenny wiped her hand on her skirt. "We now have a lovely deal and secret. Don't fuck this up, my favorite person."

As Jenny walked away from the pile of hemp bricks, she imagined the possibilities of the place.

A place for friends to make moneys? A hub for deals? And as tenants rush in, more robberies...and dramas, don't get me started. Dramas lead to money. Money leads to more moneys.

And the pile of hemp-shit; that's a start. A better start. What's next then? Who will take a bit of this pie?

What story might come next out of this... damn hemp-land?

Jenny pondered deeply, as if casting her thoughts in the air. She left the place, thinking about her next con, only half-excited about the fifty bricks that she can get from Scamland.
