Sven looked around him after the dust settled. The smell of gunpowder and the sight of rubble and bodies littering the streets were familiar to him. He silently wished for the best for what came next for his fallen comrades but didn’t allow himself to mourn beyond that. Those that had died and those in this life who continued to breathe all knew their day would come to pass. Such was the way of things. Besides, life always moved on, caring not about the deaths left in its wake. That being said, it was time to rebuild.

As he contemplated where to start when trying to help the injured, a goat came trotting up to him. It headbutted his knee before it held up a note. He thanked the goat before reading it over. 

It seemed there was a better way he could serve his city than helping the injured. He looked for a soapbox, things he wanted to say ran through his head a mile a minute. New York wanted him to step up and he would do so. The question was what kind of people did he think the city needed. 

Citizens gave him a wide berth, eyes filled with fear as they looked at what became of their city. Fear, he decided, was not something the city needed. The citizens were already afraid enough. It was then he knew exactly what he wanted to say. The kind of people New York needs. What he needed.

Finally finding a soap box, he gently set the box down and stepped up.

“People of New York, the time to be afraid is over. The dust has settled and the threats have more than drawn their last breaths. That being said, I am stepping up as I am not afraid to do so. Nor were those before me. Those of you who are willing to risk life and limb for those you care for or even for the stranger next door I encourage you to join me. Those of you who aren’t afraid of breathing your last or who are so loyal that it’s almost painful are the people I want here standing next to me. I want The Fearless.”
