Nick Valentine was just like anybody else watched football on sundays, had a beer, went to "work" if you could call it that. Except Nick had a secret he wasn't like anybody else he was a Gen 1 synth, hell as far as Nick knew he wasn't like anyone at all his earliest memories we're just about ten years ago before his memory wipe. He remembered living in Boston working as a Private Detectives assistant, he learned how to follow people without being detected along with many other similar skills which would serve him well in the future. Eventually that detective began working a case out in some remote part of Canada, he was there to investigate a cult in the area who had indoctrinated many of the rural folks who were now living in a very strange way. The group would steal radioactive materials from the government and dump it in the center of their compound claiming they were bathing in the love of their god "Atom". Their god was a loving god who would take them in their warm embrace, that was until they began getting sick. Many died from the sickness, but those who did not were named Children of Atom, because if their bodies could fight off the infection they were more resilient to radiation these people were claimed to be Atom's chosen children. Nick followed the detective to their compound, they were quite open of the compound. Anyone could come and "bask in the love of Atom", so when Nick showed up with the detective they were immediately allowed in and accepted, they were shown around and The Children explained their religion to them in great detail. The main point is the religion followed two gods, the god of Atom which everyone knew about and there were the god Pyro. Atom without Pyro was a loving god who was over no harm to anyone, but when the two gods got together for the first time in what they call the "Great Awakening" the end of the second great war. That is when there is death and destruction, the Children told the detectives that those who followed the god Pyro didn't live here and were not allowed to even step foot on the land of Atom. The Children told the detectives they were welcome to stay or go as they pleased. Both men agreed to stay and investigate, they wanted to see atom and the pools of radiation. They followed the children all the way through to the doors of the inner area. But were allowed to go no further, they were told they would have to turn back. Once returning to their main area, the detective began feeling sick and asked to lie down, they guided him to a special area they called the choosing grounds. Where the sick were to fight off the effects of Atom to be chosen, they figured Nick would need to rest as well but he said he was fine. Being a robot and all radiation doesn't affect Nick, so the children being puzzled asked if he would like to return to atom. He agreed and went back into the radiation, he was allowed to stay in a nicer home than the detectives and told he was welcome to stay as long as he needed to in order to wait for his friend. 

  Nick waited about a week for his friend to recover, who was sleeping for most of the time, Nick was allowed to see how the people lived and document the very things the men came here to find out. The people were a very loving group who for all intents and purposes were harmless to everyone but themselves. They had no desire to even leave, it seemed people came here either died to the sickness or was loved and accepted to the group as family. The Children were puzzled how Nick was not sick, they said everyone had to go through the choosing. Nick knew it was because he was a robot but he would never share that information with anyone. Once his friend was recovered they told him if he chose to stay he could and would be a child of atom. The detective told them he wanted to stay but couldn't let his clients down, Nick told the detective if he really wanted to stay he could and Nick would take over the detective agency for him. They agreed that would be down and Nick set out to return to Boston. 

  Upon his return he wrote a detailed report to the client and began looking at some of his other work, a good amount of his work was from one client in particular. "Makima" an out of town Mafia boss who claimed to be from Paradise whatever the hell that meant. He figured he should reach out to this character, they really hit it off so much so that within months of talking he was talking regular flights out to Las Vegas to conduct business. He'd became much more than the previous detective he was doing jobs for the organization, and even began doing some rather nefarious activities on the side. Though always making a trip to see the old detective and the Children of Atom, once a month to report that everything was well. On each visit the children began to become more and more puzzled by how Nick was unaffected by the effects of Atom. Some of the Children began to rever Nick as the "Chosen one of Atom". Nick knew this was rather crazy but kinda liked the attention of it, after about a year of this arrangement. Nick moved to Las Vegas full time to take a permanent position with Makima's family the "Devil Hunters" after the untimely assassination of her Left Hand Man Leonardbro Nocaprio. Now with this new role he hardly ever did any of the detective work and the business fell to ruin, he didn't tell the old detective for many months but finally returned to the children only to find that the detective was no longer with them. Instead he had joined the Cult of Pyro, who worshiped the other god. Nick was invited to visit him, the other group wasn't their enemy or anything instead they were the group who lead the Children. They were the chosen ones of Atom, they were the ones who as seen by other members were accepted to be more than Children of Atom. They were to be the firery arm of Atom, the righteous shield to protect Atom. Inside their inner sanctum, they had a giant nuclear bomb surrounded by a pool of radiation, Nick was grateful to not have lungs in this moment. He and the detective were seen as Chosen by Pyro and Nick was invited to join the Cult. The Cult members were free to come and go as they pleased, they were missionaries of the religion. They were the ones who went out and brought back Children of Atom who were them combed through to find those acceptable to join Pyro. Nick returned to Las Vegas and explained this to Makima, her only response was "We can make use of this in due time. For now please no crazy religious mumbo jumbo and "Some people just want to watch the world burn or whatever the hell it was.". And this is the story of Nick Valentine to the current date.
