The Mind of a Vengeful Woman (Adeline) Started by: Adeline on Sep 20, '24 17:49

As I come to, I could slightly hear the birds singing, it was still dark out. It was three am in the morning, when I looked at the small old clock on my bedside table. Knowing I  needed to train, and thinking that this was most likely my last day in this mansion. I let my feet move over the side of the bed as I moved the blankets away from my body. I stretched. My entire body cracking. It had been a week since I'd woken up, from being brought back to the past. As I  stood up, I walked to the sink and freshened my face. Brushed my teeth. I then put my hair in a tightened up ponytail and had it braided, with little individual braids. Quickly finishing, I  got dressed into my training clothes. I  brought my canteen and filled it up with cold fresh water. Leaving my room, after seeing everything was packed up, but my training clothes and one outfit after I was done for the day. I would probably change here and then burn the training clothes. Considering they came from this house. I wanted nothing to do with this house after I left.

I burned everything given to me in this house and got it all new. I didn't want to be reminded of how weak I was back then. Well not weak, more like allowed myself to be pushed into situations I tried to avoid. By minding my own business. But now it looked like I needed to push back. Making sure people understand that fucking around and finding out was my motto. That I am a shadow for a reason. That I am to not be fucked with for a reason. I'm considered a monster for a reason. And I think it was time to remind my enemies and people of that. So as I finished getting dressed, I put on my boots and went out to run. Not many people knew me..but people knew of my name. Or used to, now it was time for my name to be out there again. with anger and determination in the forefront of my mind and heart, I went off to run my laps. Using that to push me forward. Ignoring the whispers around me. I was terrified, yes. but I had to remember, I'm only as weak as I allow myself to be. I'm also as strong as I am confident. Not over confident But my inner demons Spunned me on. I could hear the accusations, but I still ignored. My insides quaked, like it wanted to burst out at the seems. But I needed to keep it contained. Now was not the time to let loose on them. It was the time to make myself stronger.

I remember what my shadow enemy told me. Remember you aren't alone, you have us at your back. Don't let other people define who you are and what you're capable of. Well fuck, I couldn't let that go to waste. I also couldn't continue to keep relying on others without being able to pull my own weight. I wanted a peaceful life. But in order to have that, I had to learn to protect my inner peace. If I wanted to change the past, I had to change myself. So as I began my laps around the tracks. Since I've cultivated chi, I felt it was easier to run. Thank heavens I did cultivate earlier. So as I ran, I feel the early morning breeze brush past my skin, the sounds of my foot falls, hitting against the tracks. My lungs feeling invigorating, knowing this wasn't as bad as back then. So I kept moving forward.

As I ran I could feel all their stares, but I kept running. Feeling a warm sensation in my belly, as if I was ascending to a higher level. And I was. I could feel my face heating up. As my body began to sweat to cool itself down. As a couple hours went by. I barely finished one-hundred and fifty laps. I slowed down, not realizing someone was there. Handing me my canteen. I took a few swallows, taking a break to catch my breath.

As I looked up, I saw it was my shadow enemy and my brother checking in on me. I didn't say anything. I then walked over to the equipment area, to do my warm ups before training. I put weights, around my wrist and ankles and I used it around my arms and legs.

As I finished, I did fifty push-ups, fifty sit ups and other things. Then I stood on my hands with my feet in the air. Thank the gods I was wearing pants. I also balanced m6 body, moving up and down like that. Then, then I pushed up and did a flip, landing on my feet. And I grabbed onto the bar, and did some pull ups with those weights. As I finished, I could feel the sweat beating down my face and body. Damn I was out of shape. Even though I was healthy. I was still far from being where I needed to be. As I landed on my feet. A woman handed me a towel and I took it. I wiped my sweat off and then again took my canteen from my shadow enemy. He was smirking at me.

“Are you always this quiet?..well more like loud?” He teased.

“Well, are you always this talkative..well more like annoying and quiet?” I quipped back.

I could hear my brother snort, along with the woman. I looked around and noticed I was being watched. I scrunched my nose. I didn't exactly like the attention. But whatever. They can turn up their noses at me. I didn't care. They wanted to go around with a chip on their shoulder about me. Then so be it. I moved my hand back and forth, closing it and opening it, stretching it. I could tell my little group looked at my direction of eyesight. I saw them trying to scramble back to doing what they were doing before I came out here.

I turned to look back to see why they were scared. Then I saw it. Their eyes looked as if they'd kill anyone and not give a second thought. I raised a brow. If only it had been like this before. I looked away not wanting to feel like I would choke on sadness again.

“I need to train. I'm almost done…after this can we eat breakfast elsewhere? I don't..” I started to say, but I was interrupted.

“Yes..we can go wherever you want. I don't trust their food not to poison you..never again….never again will I look away from your silhouette.” My shadow enemy stated.

His voice seemed saddened and angered all at once. I didn't exactly know why. I could feel my heart racing in my chest. I looked away again, before my face flushed. I took another swig Of my water for good measure.

I handed him back the canteen and went to train my techniques. I pulled out my daggers, and felt darkness swirl around me. As if it was getting more powerful the more I trained. I swirled and dodged each wooden panel that came at me. Seeing as I was getting pretty good at dodging, I went from wooden stumps To live training. I flipped back. Swirled and clashed with others swords. I jumped from head to head. I wasn't good at it per say but I was okay. As I landed on my feet. I growled, feeling annoyed that my body isn't quite up to par of what I needed it to do. But it was doing okay for its first real exercise. I threw my dagger at my opponent, and ran into them and smacked and elbowed, getting hands on. Ignoring the gasps and such. As I ducked and dodged I used different techniques that I was learning. Learning how I can strengthen myself. Finally my shadow enemy called it to an end. I looked around and realized I had put everyone in a groaning state. I cringed a little.

Then as I stood up straight, I looked onto the crowd gathered around, I looked to my brother in slight panic. Suddenly the woman that handed me a towel guided me back to my room as my shadow enemy stated a few things.

“First off I want to say..Adeline will no longer be living here. Nor will she be training in these training grounds anymore. Second, you will no longer be seeing us around either. As of now we will be leaving. so you should watch out when you see adeline again. She you will no longer be answering to you. Her status will be so far up above you that she'll have to send someone to talk to you…if you were her true friend. Then you are welcome. But only if you are on her list of friends allowed to visit. But that's up to her. I want to state this as well. Make sure you don't provoke her either. For we won't stop her. We will only enable her.” He said.

He said a few other things I was sure of but I wanted to step inside and clean up.

So I went to my room, and took a shower, cleaning the morning sweat off. I let the shower calm me, as I washed up. Quickly finishing. I stepped out and dried off. I put on my leather pants. I wore a nice fitting tight shirt, and a loose sweater. Seeing the morning sun brighten up the sky. I quickly braided my hair, having a Mohawk braid half way on my head and then braided up my bangs and put jewelry on them. Then I put my hair in a ponytail and then braided up the ponytail individually and then put jewels in those braids. As I finished. Put on my boots. And stepped out of the bathroom. after putting on a simple light makeup. Not much to be noticeable. And light jasmine perfume. On my neck and wrist. And a little on my belly.

I then stepped out of my room to see the same woman. I raised a brow but didn't question it. They seem to be with my brother and his best friend. My shadow enemy. I followed her Out to their car. as the door was opened. I quickly got in. She got in as well. The door shut, and the engine started, and off we went.

As we were driving down through the city. I looked out through the window. Watching as the city went by. As the kids innocently played. People walking to their destination. Some people yelling at their lovers. Or their friends. Some of them running around to catch up with time. As I watched, rage was flaring up in me. As I could only think of how far I let it go. I felt a lump form in my throat threatening to choke me in my state. I swallowed. As I felt his hand on my thigh. I looked down and slowly up and over at him. My eyes had nothing there but rage. No facial expression. I was sure he could see the burning rage as my inner demons clashed their chains to try and get out.

“Hey..what is going on in that head of yours?” He asked.

“Mm..nothing..I'm thinking of my next steps.” I said in droll.

As if he could sense my lack of awareness in my emotion, he smiled brightly. “Oh dear little bunny. I was thinking you could do the unexpected. There is a house party later this evening…maybe you should show up..they aren't expecting you..we will go with you.” He said.

I looked to my brother, who seemed to soften his eyes at me and smile. And I looked at the woman, again wondering who she was. I gave a curious look. But then I thought about it. He's right, I've never showed up in the past so why would they expect me there. I could also start my plans with this too. Maybe figure out who I could use and how I could move them.

“I'm Olivia by the way. I've been adopted..since I was young..I grew up with your brother. And your brother took me in. I wasn't adopted by your family. But your brother took it upon himself to take care of me. When we turned adulthood, your brother saved me from my family. So now I am married to your brother. I used to come over all the time as a kid. But because of circumstances, your brother and I didn't want to cause trouble. So we planned ahead..hence here I am. Like you I had a terrible life. And I told your brother I would like to assist you guys in anyway I can to make up for the kindness he's shown me.” She said with a smile.

As I thought about it, my brother was a softy behind that shield he put up. I nodded. The world hardened your shell so you could protect your weaknesses. If that were the case, I needed to grow into the monster they needed me to be. Fuck others opinions. Fuck anything outside what and who mattered to me. These people gave me a reason to live..to smile. Anything that made me happy. So like Olivia. I  would show they didn't make the wrong decision.

“Yes..I think my brother made the right choice in saving you. I hope you can find peace and happiness in this family. That's all I ask. Oh and make my brother happy. I finally get to see him at peace.” I said.

As my brother looked at me, clearly surprised by my statement, I thought about it. Back then I hated to see him so lost and saddened and lonely. I couldn't help him back then. But I can now. I scrunched up the hymns Of  my sweater as my knuckles went white, thinking back again of how I lacked. How I needed to become stronger. I would burn everything standing in my way. To protect them and my happiness. I didn't realize what I was doing till I felt my shadow enemy's hand engulf my tiny cold hands. It was warm. I looked down then back up at him. He was watching me.

“I can hear you ..you know. Don't do that..don't drown in it. It's okay. I'm here. Just breathe. I know it's a lot to allow yourself to take it all in. But I'm here..just breathe..remember one step at a time. You will get there. But until then. We will help you..and remember anything you can't do I will do it for you. Just breathe…if you don't you'll drown in suffocation of what you're thinking.” he stated.

As if on command, my body took a few deep breaths, but I had to look away. I didn't understand this new life. It was overwhelming and a little unnerving. Probably because I wasn't used to it. Lost in my thoughts, the seat next to me lightened. Thinking of other things. I hadn't really noticed the car stopped at our destination before going home.

Suddenly, I blinked, feeling someone directly in my face. I nearly had a heart attack. His forehead touched mine. He then moved back, extending his hand. I took his, getting out of the car. Getting out of the car gracefully. I followed then into the diner. And suddenly I was greeted by an older lady. She seemed to know me.

“Oh my..it's been awhile huh?” The woman said and I blinked.

I looked to my brother confused, he just looked at me with sympathy, I looked away not wanting to see anyone look at me like that. I couldn't afford it.

“Adeline..it's me..momma roza. Rosanna. Remember?” She asked, and I nearly let the tears fall. But I held back with only a tremble in my lower lip.

She gave me a big unexpected hug. I just stood their frozen, I blinked. I patted her shoulder blade lightly. Not used to such things, their eyes widened and then back to normal. I felt like a cat had got wet and wanted to run away. My brother's throat cleared as the older lady let me go.

“Well if isn't you two knuckles heads. I see you two every day.. but it isn't every day I get to see adeline.” She said. They chuckled.

Momma Roza escorted us to a corner private table. I sat in the middle. Quietly reading the menu.

“I already know what you two knuckle heads are gonna order..unless you suddenly gotten a new taste for something else. I wanna hear what Adeline and Olivia want to order. Your wife is the sweetest. You picked a good one.” She teased.

Adeline watching out the window, Zaine, my Shadow enemy and my brother's right hand man and best friend, lightly squeezed over my cold hands again. I looked up at him and noticed they were waiting for me. I let my eyebrows knit together. Taking a breath and let it out.

“Sorry, I'm feeling a little lost in thought. Uhm I'll have your bowl of strawberries and creme. And then I'll have an order of waffles and bacon and uhm buttermilk biscuits with your breakfast gravy. I want extra bacon and extra strawberries..if that's allowed?” I  asked unsure.

“Abso freakin lutely baby girl..anything for you.” She said with a big heartfelt smile.

I instantly felt nervous by All of this. Some people might not understand my way of reacting. But you know coming from a life of hardships and no love. You tend to become used to bad things like that. And when anyone shows you the slightest of kindness..you tend to become worried or scared of their intentions behind it. Although this woman was always like this. Others in my future will not have been. Although Zaine and Alex were always nice to me. They were never this good to me. I'm wondering why and why now..maybe even a what the fuck. Yeah more like what the ever living fuck.

As I handed over the menu, I wrapped my arms around myself. Feeling a bit nervous, I hear Olivia laugh, I looked over thinking she might be laughing at me. I was surprised. My brother for the first time in my life was smiling. Not one of those fake smiles for pretending to be friendly. No this was real and unexpected. This matched his eyes. This one matched the atmosphere. I felt Zaine watching me as I watched them curiously.

“I can feel you staring.” I said softly.

“Uh huh..tell me what's on your mind..don't shut me out now.” He whispered near my ear.

I froze, was he joking with me or was he serious? I turned to look at him. My breath caught in my throat. He was serious. I quickly looked away. I couldn't handle the emotion on his face. All I kept thinking in that moment was no..don't look at me like that..with Sympathy or softness that I can't seem to handle right now.

I could hear foot falls coming our way. I looked and saw two waitresses coming to give us our food. He chuckled at me, I'm Pretty sure I was almost drooling at the food at this point. I could feel him tapping a napkin to my lips as he closed my mouth. Always teasing me. I quickly scooted Away from him.

“Stop that. Such nonsense.” I said, as the plates were set before us.

“But it's fun. Besides I get a kick out of your reactions towards me teasing.” He said.

I scrunched my eyebrows And nose. I couldn't allow myself to get too comfortable. If I did, something bad always happens. At the moment I was sure this was only temporary.

So I sighed.

“You asked me what I was thinking about earlier? Well I was thinking at this party later this evening, I could set some small plans in motion. Then work my way up.” I said.

He gave me a smirk,”am I included in these plans?” He asked.

“I mean everyone at this table is, if that's okay with you guys?” I asked.

“Yeah I think that'd be great. I don't want you alone. At least not right now. Instead of me picking a bodyguard. I want you to pick one person that you'll have with you always. Unless they are working for me. They have to be the best of the best. They can't be new. They have to be skilled and precise in everything and on the ball. They also have to be useful in your plans.” Alex said.

I was pretty sure my brother was trying to set me up with a boyfriend or such husband. I shook my head. But on the other hand he was right. I had to think logically about this. While I'm still weak, I needed someone on a molecular level that can get me out of any thing if need be. Someone who could easily go with the flow at my pace. Someone who could simply just do things with ease. Although I hated to admit it, I was thinking of one person. Zaine. My brother's smile grew wider, because I'm pretty sure he and I came to the same conclusion. I could feel zaine soaking with amusement. Smug bastard. I wanted to wipe that smug smirk right off his face but I gritted my teeth and didn't say a word.

I poured syrup all over the waffles. Cutting off a bite and popping it in my mouth. I had to think of this from a strategic standpoint. If I wanted to survive and be successful, my best option was Zaine. I chewed my food slowly, as I thought about it more. I hated to admit this but it was my best and only option. Also if I'm being honest. Although I'd never tell him this, but I'd prefer him over a stranger. As I swallowed I looked at my brother who was now watching me and talking back and forth with Zaine.

“I have someone in mind. I think we all know who it is. I'm not choosing them just because their there. I'm choosing them from a strategic point. So wipe the smug grins off your faces. I am choosing this person because it's the best and only option..and when he's doing stuff for you..I want either Olivia or your personal bodyguard..actually both.” I said, as I took another bite.

“oh? Now this surprises me. Why olivia?” Alex asked.

“Hmm..because although she looks Like a helpless small woman. Her eyes and posture say she's dangerous. I felt her aura in the car. I'm not dumb. You've never allowed any woman near you to be defenseless. If she couldn't fight. You would have had at least two guard. But there are none. Two I've seen your personal bodyguard. They are the second best to Zaine. Which makes me think he and Zaine have trained together in the past. Also when I was talking to Olivia. I got the impression she'd be good at handling politics, she just chooses not to. she pretends to be dumb but I bet she's gathering a lot of information. You realize I study people as a hobby right?” I turned to look at them all.

They were now looking at me in surprise. Why? Was it because I've never shown interest or showed off my intelligence? Or was it because they didn't think I was capable? I gritted my teeth and swallowed my food.

“You only took one look at her..and how do you know about leviathan? He's basically a shadow? You've never been to my office.” Alex sounded really surprised.

How could I explain this, “well that's all it takes sometimes. If your thorough and trained. You can get a lot of detail in one look. Also she's sitting in front of me right now. So how can I not observe her. Also you forget I play in the shadows. That's my domain. I thrive in the dark. And anyway. If you remember when I was a kid. I used to follow you all the time. Kids tend to take in detail if trained properly. I'm a child of the mafia family. I've learned a lot of things. Why wouldn't I learn awareness and study body language?” I stated.

As I thought about it, the more I became agitated, as I set my fork down. I was being underestimated. But I guess that's what I get for allowing myself to follow that stupid wish. Well not this time..sorry godparents. But I can't do that this time. This is one promise I can't keep.

“Alex. I have always told you..not to judge a book by its cover. Remember? That's how we get killed. Or do I need to beat that into your head again?” Zaine said.

“No..I was just a little surprised. I mean I know she's good and can take you by surprise but she was never interested in details like this..which is why I thought she didn't know much of this stuff..I'm sorry Adeline, that was rude of me. Will you forgive me?” he asked, he had such a softness about it, I almost suffocated on the lump in my chest forming in my throat.

“it's fine. I should have expected it. I mean don't get me wrong..I want my enemies to underestimate me..but not you two. Just..get used to me surprising you. More often. If you're genuinely taken by surprise..I apologize. I hid a lot of what I can do.” I said, it was barely a whisper.

“What are your talents so far?” Olivia asked.

“Strategic military Planning. Playing the piano..string instruments, other instruments from different countries. I can sing and dance. converse in different languages. Getting along with others as if it's easy. I can destroy a person's life if I needed to. Not just one. I can also fight. Melee or one on one. Close combat or long. I mean the combat though is a little terrible but I'm getting better since I've been training. I can run a country..or a city..or whatever. I can do political work. I can also run a business..I can run a family. Etcetera..I mean there's probably more that I'm missing but yes..I've learned all of this and I'm still studying. But I can do a lot. I just keep what I can do hidden. I don't like bragging. But since you earnestly asked Olivia..then I can tell you honestly. And earnestly.” I stated.

I took a bite of bacon, with biscuit and gravy, and chewed. I let that stew, as I watched the people in the restaurant.

“Wow..you really are talented. I'm guessing home tutor?” She asked.

“Yes..my adoptive parents didn't want the whispers of a weak child getting out. A child whose parents disappeared. An orphan or a bastard. A child who had no money. They also didn't want anyone to know I lived their. Their daughter was their treasure so they didn't want anything to trample her hard work. So I hired a tutor through my brother's allowances. If it weren't for the secret money he was sending me. That I asked for..I wouldn't have been able to live so freely.” I said with a smile that didn't exactly meet my eyes but they couldn't see that.

“That's horrible. How did you cope?” She asked, I was pretty sure everyone was listening.

“Well I ignored the bullshit and buckled down on what was Needed. I asked the tutor to teach me in private. Luckily my brother sent his tutor, this guy looks the same as when he did when I was a child. Anyway..I dodged and ducked. I just kept my head down. That's all I could do..most of those kids came from prestigious families…what could I do..I had no one in my corner. While they had an army it seemed like. But don't worry..they'll pay..everyone involved will see hell..and wish for death. They'll hope for a peaceful death. But you see..I've learned to keep someone alive for years while under terrible conditions.” I gave a sadistic smile, as I seemed to be looking beyond them.

I felt Zaine stiffen, as if he didn't know what to do about my sudden darkness. Yeah I probably scared him off. As the conversation moved on, I finished most of my food. It was a lot of food. My brother and Zaine paid with a wad of cash. Giving a nice tip. I nodded. Momma Roza deserved the best. As they slid from the booth, they waved momma Roza goodbye and left.

I wanted to quickly get home and begin my plans as soon as possible. As I got into the car, I was lost in thought by the time it drove off. Thinking of what I needed to do. First I needed to figure out who my first targets were. When I got home I would figure out a plan to ruin them. Yeah this was gonna be fun. To watch their world burn. Destroyed. Like they destroyed my dreams. My peace. My privacy.

“Adeline..Adeline?” My brother was calling my name.

I hadn't known I was staring off into space or lost in my thoughts until I blinked, and felt Zaines forehead against mine. I blinked as he moved back. I looked at my brother.

“I'm sorry..what's wrong?” I asked, trying to figure out what he said. But I'm coming up blank.

“Adeline, are you alright?” My brother asked.

“Oh yes. I'm just thinking about my next move. That's all, no need to worry..so what were you saying?” I asked.

“Oh just that I was wondering if you would help me convince the mayor of a treasure from Egypt. I know you are good at art and if I can give you a basic description..can you fill in the rest of the details?” He asked.

“Yeah..so you want it in ancient Latin and Arabic and etcetera?” I asked back.

“Yes. and some ancient Chinese scripts I'm trying to burn the mayor. Since he's destroying my plans. I figured I could appeal to his greedy side and get him destroyed like that? Maybe we could put a legendary curse behind it. Make it go after his wife. Fuck with her dreams. also make it scare his girls a little..not enough to harm them..just a little scare to make his wife agitated.” he said.

“Yeah I can do that..I'll need Zaine for a while though..if you're okay with it?” I asked.

“Mhm..I'm sure you're gonna need him for more than just this right?” He basically stated more than asked.

As we came to the front gate of our home, men opened doors for us. The gates were iron. I blinked. As men ran around and opened the gates. I blinked in shock seeing this was massive. So much bigger than my adoptive parents place. I almost cursed.

As we drove through, it was not gravel. It was smooth. I looked at Zaine, who was now smirking at my child like wonder. I wanted to scowl. As we drove around the massive circle. That had a waterfall like a fountain. I saw we had guests. the front was just as big as the house. Or should I call this place a castle. It had a well kept garden. With flowers. I wanted to cry. Because it had all my favorites. As the door opened for us. I noticed a staircase leading us to a wide door. Doors opened as they all bowed to us. And escorted us inside.

“Does the lady have any bags?” One maid asked.

“No. God no. As if i would keep trash in such a nice home. To be reminded of how my treatment was. I already have enough reminders..don't you think?” I asked Zaine the last part as I looked at him.

He frowned, with him nodding I walked into the house like castle.

“I want to go to my room or office if I can..I have work to do..I can do a house tour later.” I said softly.

“Albert show her to her office that we built for her. And show her to her room next door. Please and thank you?” Alex asked nicely.

He bowed and had me follow him up the staircase to the third floor. The home was huge. Massive halls, pictures of family members before us. Marble flooring. Massive windows. As I looked out into the day, as I walked by. I often wondered how long it took to build this place. As I was escorted to my room. Albert opened the door for me. And showed me everything. Then taking me next door to it and the Massive office. It had adjoining doors to go back and forth. Without going out into the hall.

“Uhm..Albert, is there a family library in this place? In case I need information on law and information?” I asked.

“oh yes..just go out your door, take a left and those double heavy set wooden doors open up to the third floor of the library. There are stairs in there to go to each floor.” he stated and noted.

“thank you..that will be all.” I said.

He nodded, bowing before he left.

As I looked around, I noticed the desk was massive. The windows behind it was massive. And it opened onto a balcony. The sun moving through the clouds. Looked around and saw a resting area..for guests..and then I saw two chairs in front of the desk. Then I saw a massive book shelf that held books and texts and anything immediate that I might need. As I sat down, I saw a list of names that would be at the party. I nodded. I could do this. I also saw name that died back then due to suicide. I swallowed. That's right! I could save her life this time.  she would help me as well. She was a close friend, as I began to write notes on each name. I  heard a tap at the door.

“Come in.” I said without looking up. I got up and walked over to grab ancient Chinese and Arabic and Egyptian textbooks.

I then walked back to my desk. As I put the notes I started on the list names aside. I then began to look around for drawing paper and such. But I sighed. As I felt Zaines eyes on me. I looked over at him. He leaned against the book shelf with some people outside of my door.

“I'm sorry..you could come in..if you're here to do his bidding..I wasn't ignoring you Zaine..i..I promise..I'm..I'm…” I cursed, I was stuttering.

“Hush..I know. I saw you ..in fact you gave me respect and trying to keep focus. You even had refreshments silently delivered for me. Thank you. But I don't care about that.. I'm here for something else.” He said

“Oh?” I raised a brow. As pretty bags were brought in.

I looked between the men, and Zaine, who was now giving me a small smirk at my curiosity. I didn't know what to think about this. As I watched them set everything on a table that was in here. I hadn't even noticed, it also had a black border with chalk. My eyes widened as I quickly ran over like a child. I was short. I mean I was decently tall but I was really short to this man. Most men were slightly taller. But Zaine engulfed me. I was surprised I hadn't noticed that before. Was it because I didn't see him all the time? Or was it due to the fact that we hardly saw each other?

Not wanting to dwell on that right now, I returned my thoughts to the current activity. As I watched everything being set out..to pencils and paintbrushes and paint..and pens. I jumped up and down giggling like a little girl getting candy.

“Oh my god..are these all for me?” I asked, looking back at Zaine.

As I looked back, I saw the paper and canvases. I bit my lower lip.

“Yeah. I bought these for two purposes..and I bought two sets. One set for working. The other set for personal. I remembered you liked to draw. I owe you this at least for my actions back then. And I wanted to see you do that again. I know this doesn't make up for everything, but I thought this would be the start.” he said, and my lower lip trembled.

He remembered, I sniffed as I looked back at him and I could tell I had tears On the verge of falling because it was like I was seeing him as a blurry figure and he doubled. It felt like I was looking through poorly made glass.

He appeared before me, as he put his palm lightly to my cheek. He used his thumb print to wipe it.

“hush..don't cry..I wish I could destroy everything in your path for you. If I could I would make them bleed for you. Kneel before you in a public manner. Make them go through the same humiliations. Make them watch as everything they love gets destroyed. Taken away from them..but I can't. With such hatred and sadness in your eyes. I have to let you do this..but I can help you do the things you can't. If you need me to become more of a monster so that your tasks can be done and you can have peace. Then so be it. You have me at your back. Adeline..I mean it..no matter what you do..I'll never betray you. I'll never leave you. I'll never let anyone hurt you..so if you become weak..I'm here..just run to me..don't think of anything but your own way of doing things. But promise you'll be safe. If you need me to bring them back from the dead only to torment them further. I will…you deserve everything that's good, little bunny.” he whispered.

We heard a throat being cleared, as we stepped away. As I felt a number of things. Pain at this moment wasn't exactly one of them. I felt confused and warmth. My face flushed, my cheek burned from where his hand had been. I looked at my brother who was smirking. I turned away scowling. I pulled the books I needed and set them on the table.

“Uhm..ahem..Zaine..had brought me materials for this task. Uhm I won't be able to be done tonight but I can get a lot done.” I started to say.

“No thats fine. Do you have away we could get his interest just a tiny bit?” Alex asked as Zaine watched as I worked.

“Yeah I have some of an idea..so I read between a few ancient scripts. So I found this text in a couple of text books in many different languages. So it's only one line. And there are no pictures of it. but if I could get intouch with a few people to see if anything is out…see if people haven't used this before. Or tried to find it. But as old as this family is..I doubt I'll need to.” I stated.

“Okay…wanna explain?” Alex stated.

Zaine leaned against the book shelf watching as I looked between the two males.

“So I thought I could make up as I go along. I could write up a few small drawings and texts and notes. And then over time I could make a few paintings and detail it to make it look ancient and old. So the one line talks about an ancient text about the necklace that holds the heart of the immortal shadow. It has A curse..the only way to use it.. is to get another immortal shadow of the direct descendent to lift it or to wield it it can make the wielder become lost forever. It had immense power.” I started as I opened six books back to back.

“Okay so what's stopping you?” Zaine asked.

“Well for one if I start this..I'll need your input on how you want it to look. But I'll also need you two to take pictures to make it seem like it's just based on research from books. At least in the first stages. For tonight. Can you two do that for me? I mean I'll get the angle but I'll know you two to set it all up and take it for me.” I stated.

“Ookay..so what's the issue?” Alex asked.

“Well when is that party?” I asked

“Mm it started around 7:30 pm ..so we would get there around 8 pm. For good measure. We want to be on time not so early.. we look desperate.” Zaine finally spoke up.

I looked over and nodded. “Okay..well I can get a little bit done. Before we go..but it'll only be notes and such. But we might have to dig deeper to figure out if there is a grave sight. I won't be able to get much but I'll have some notes.” I said.

“Alright. So you want to entice him with this? And how will you entice his wife?” Alex asked.

“Well she Loves legendary pastime jewelry. So maybe I get romantic with it? Maybe have you flirt with her. I mean considering he doesn't pay attention to her anymore and he cheats all the time on her. So give her an excuse to do it.. also make them fight amongst each other. And get them to ruin their reputation by getting a divorce. That may also help your cause.” I said.

As I began to write down some notes, I grabbed a ruler to measure some of my stuff out on the white paper. As I began to draw, of what some of the pieces I thought it should look like. I grabbed text books and checked to see how the text should be handwritten. Walking around the table. As I began to draw the map. Not realizing how far I'd gotten. So far gone in the zone.

“Del..I'll have some girls help you get dressed so you can focus. Okay?” Alex said softly after a couple of hours. I nodded, as I walked around trying to figure out the next step. Writing notes in my leather notebook. I also drew out the jewelry. It was almost like I was drawing from memory. Like it actually existed. Going back and forth between my notebook and a massive drawing paper to be used later as an old scroll. I felt zaine's eyes on me, I looked up. Raising a brow as I drew out more notes. Stating pieces of the story.

How much people fought. How it appeared and disappeared throughout history.

Although Zaine was my enemy. I had to admit he was every woman's well…you know. Not that I was gonna admit that to him. Instead I decided to go with a sassy approach to keep him at arms length.

“What do you want..don't you have some meeting to attend to..or some girl to let sit on your lap?” I teased.

this time it was his turn to raise a brow at me. I wrote down a few more Things, as I went back to my desk. looking through some stuff. He set his tea cup down and got up, walking over to the table, seeing my work.

“Jealous?” He asked, looking at my what I think is scrappy work, like he's interested.

“Not even close..you wish..I just wanted to know why are you here?” I started to say but then retracted my statement realizing how it might come off as a jealous girlfriend. So I changed it. “No..just wondering why you're bothering me instead of bugging someone else.” I said, trying to ignore the charge between us.

I needed him to be angry at me, because I wasn't used to people being nice to me. It was a bit unsettling. I grabbed some other stuff that I had written along time ago. Realizing it was for this project, I began to connect it together. As I walked back to the table, I leaned over drawing something. Then using something to erase it. And redrawing it.

“Mm I don't know. I just wanted to make sure you didn't ruin this project..after all you're but a spoiled brat hidden away.” He teased back.

I looked away, I felt like he was sort of right. But wrong at the same Time. It sort of hit a nerve at how close he hit home on how I was thinking. I didn't let it show. So I laughed it off and threw Out a remark.

“You'd know right? Cause we've been so close? I mean I'm surprised you even noticed..considering how many people you hang out with..how many girls you have on your lap.” I said, as I finished the last detail.

I felt a cold stare at me, so I looked up to seeing his cold stare. I looked away. I had to keep him pissed off at me for now until I know what to do with this man.

“What? Hit a nerve? I mean you …ahem..you seemed content last week with..what's her name? Ah right..lizzy?” I joked.

I heard my brother choke as I look up, I quickly looked away, but I could still feel Zaine's cold curious stare on me. As if he was trying to figure me out. Or as if he could see right through my walls.

“Go away Alex.” Zaine said, as he moved back against the bookshelf.

“I mean she isn't wrong..but I just came to tell you..the team is here to help you get ready, del.” Alex said.

I nodded, setting down my pencil, As I looked through the book, looking for anything else I could use. I rubbed my face in confusion.

“Hey uhm Zaine..or alex..I have a question..if you can answer..that's fine..but if you can..then I'd like you to tell me.” I said, I walked over to the bookshelf on the other side of the room.

“What?” Zaine seemed curious.

“I'm kinda confused..but is it just me..or does this seem like I'm going by memory? And if so..how?” I asked.

Alex was smirking at him, but when I looked right at Zaine, he stiffened. That caught my attention. He didn't answer, and I nodded. I should have known. I clucked my tongue and waved my hand in the air as if to say forget. I should have known, this asshole wasn't going to answer me. Fine, I'll figure it out myself.

“Forget it..I don't need you to answer…so annoying.” I whispered.

Just as zaine was gonna say something, the girls came in and set up a chair and brought in her outfit. I looked up at the clock and saw it was a quarter to seven. I looked nervous as I looked between them.

“It's alright..Zaine will quickly get dressed and i'll stay here.. then once he's done. He'll come back and I'll go get dressed.” Alex said, as I swallowed hard, and looked between them both.

Zaine could tell I was scared, he nodded and I nodded back. “O..okay..I'll just do this then.” I whispered.

As I sat in the chair, the woman began to work on my makeup and my hair. As I sat there, I let my mind wander. I'd never been to these things. So how could I even begin to know? As they did my hair and make-up, I realized they were doing a mixture Of Chinese and Israeli and Arabian and Nordic and a few other cultures in my hair. They did the first top part with small braids with little jewels in it. Then they put some curls there. Then put individual little braids at the end. With jewels and white diamonds. Then some silver stuff. As they finished. They did my make-up on nature with water style. Leaving my lips with a light pink lipstick. As they finished. My lashes were thick and long.

Just as they finished, my brother left, just so I could get dressed. I wore a half top, it was black, the hems Of it were folded in gold. Then my sleeves were long. And floral. My skirt was long and floral. With jasmine and purple roses flowing on it. I wore a light purple crown. It has flowers and jewels on them. Suddenly Zaine came in. As they slipped on my flats. My stomach had a see through material. And it accentuated my waist, so if I were to dance. I'd look like a belly dancer or a Chinese or Egyptian princess. My jewelry was put on my neck, and wrists. And a nice waistband that glittered with diamonds and jewels. As I looked up at Zaine. He was now watching me. I looked away kinda nervous. Instead of teasing him I said.

“You will be near me at all times right? Or at least in a place where I Can see you?” I said.

My voice was a bit shaky. He seemed to notice. He gave me a serious nod.

“Yes. I won't let you handle the monsters alone. But I won't step in unless you need me to. But I'll have your back.” he said reassuring me.

I took a deep breath and nodded. As zaine grabbed my notes and a few other things. I went to step out of my office, and my brother nodded.

“Adeline..you look..beautiful.” He said, as I swallowed hard. A deep cherry red color tinted my cheeks.

I cleared my throat, as I spoke in a breathless manner. Not used to the compliment, “tha..thank you.” I stuttered slightly.

Zaine took my notes and pictures and out then in a suitcase. And handed it off to one of the guards. As Olivia came in with a smile. Zaine was wearing a black buttoned up shirt, no tie. It wasn't all the way buttoned up.

His green eyes almost looked gray. His dark hair down to his shoulders, with pieces of jewels in each twist. It was like an Egyptian mixed with a Greek God came to from the past and entered her timeline. Except he was wearing clothes of her time. I quickly looked away. before anyone could see I was hiding a blush, I walked out of the room. Pretending to be in a hurry. Which it wasn't exactly a lie. Honestly I needed to get out of there. I shook my head. My hair clinking together. I could hear a soft chuckle from behind me. I ignored the peanut Gallery behind me. I took the elevator, quickly going down. Seeing no one following her. She leaned against the back a little. In her thoughts a little, trying to figure out how she'd handle these people. Finally as it came to the main floor, she opened the doors and got off. she was escorted out to the car. Suddenly she could feel Alex and Zaine behind her. She got into the car and waited for them to get in. As everyone got in, the door was closed and they drove off.

Tapping her fingers on her leg, deep in her thoughts. She could feel her heart in her chest, she could hear it in her ears. She'd known the etiquette Of fancy political parties and such. But she'd never really went to one. It wasn't that they didn't deem her worthy, it was that she just didn't really want to be bothered. Feeling a warm, big hand on her cold, small one. She blinked and looked down. She looked up at zaine, she felt kinda out of her element a little.

“Hey, it's going to be okay. Don't worry about proper etiquette. We will be there, you can even fight, we won't stop you. We will even help you..so I want you to take a deep breath and let it out. Don't worry about trying to charm these fake people. Just be who you are and we will protect that. Got it?” Her brother stated.

A lump formed in her throat, all she could do was nod, afraid her voice wasn't ready to speak. Zaine reached up and lightly patted her head, giving a small but sincere smile.

“Well we could always imagine them naked, not that I want to..or Alex's wife here can yank their pants down like she did last year. I'm still wanting to throw up..that sight.." They all laughed.

She covered her mouth, but she had an inward quiet giggle. As Zaine let hand quietly to her lap, he grabbed her hand lightly, put it to his mouth to warm it up. She was always cold.

“Even back then you had cold hands..I should get you some gloves this winter. Something that'll keep your hands warm. I'm probably gonna get something the Chinese used to have. To keep your hands warm. Always so cold. Always too far away. But that's okay..this time I won't let you wander off out of my sight.” He Whispered, she blushed and looked away.

Just as she looked out, she saw they were parked and at their destination. As he got out, her door was opened, and Zaine helped her out. He put a thick shall over her until they got inside to ward off the cold a little. It was autumn so it wasn't too bad.

Walking into the building, the doors were open for her. She could hear whispers of her. Either jealousy or curiosity. Zaine lightly squeezed her hand. She looked around and rage blurred through her. It was some of her enemies. But she wouldn't let them take her down this time. This time, she wouldn't only get her revenge. But she would do worse.

Seeing her first choice of action, she pretends for now. Yeah she'd fuck up all their plans.

Keeping a smile on her face, it was as fake as Sarah saying they were friends. She walked into greet them. Thinking of way to make them burn…to be continued.

A work to rival Systematic Immolation of Thought in length.

Can it also rival it in philosophical-theoretic density? Only a good and thorough reading can reveal such a thing. Perhaps even multiple readings. I elect Ben_Russo for the job.

Adeline, have you ever considered entering competitive writing competitions?

I see that InterruptHandler learned what happens when you taunt a vampire. Or is it a vampiress? I don't know. Are vampires politically correct? I don't want to end up like InterruptHandler. Anyhow, he's dead now so we can all point at him and laugh. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. What an idiot.

TLDR

Glad to see even the mere mention of competitive writing can now bring on death.

Oop...he said it.

Even with being a monster, I know better than to evoke the words that have ruined so many. In another life, perhaps Horus and InterruptHandler will know not to push the wrong buttons. We can only dream that the people who write for reasons other than recreationally and perhaps for some sort of potential monetary compensation and the men and women who judge such things from the shadows and are completely unknown to everyone but a few will have some mercy going forward.

As for the story, what a lovely tale and done with no attempt at financial gain. Perhaps you will be smiled upon by a certain committee and that you see some sort of payment for all of this hard work? I will see what I can do. Albeit, my strings can only go so far... I've not been alive for as long as that blowhard Dracula, he has all of the good connections...

I'm rambling now, so it is time for me to take my leave.

Nosferatu darts off without saying another word, in hopes that no one from the 'rhymes with pompetitive biting wompatitions' will notice that they were spoken about by so many in such a short amount of time.
