Fratto's Big First Day Started by: LouisFratto on Oct 14, '24 18:41

He stepped down off the train and onto the Philadelphia train station and out into the sunny streets.  He didn't know what to expect being a 20 year old in a new city.  He saw a long soup line with all kinds of people in it.  "I'm definitely not in Chicago anymore", he thought to himself as a Model T came zipping by him hitting a puddle, soaking him from the knees down.

"Oh!  Come on! What's you damn problem?"

He wiped his leg with his hand to no prevail then tried shaking the excess water off of him before heading to the soup line.  Standing there he knew this wasn't going to be anything he would want to eat.  "I have GOT to find some work", he thought.  Suddenly he heard someone try to get his attention.  It sounded like a slow tire leak.

"Psst...Psst! Hey, kid. Come here" she said as she motioned me over with his hand.  She had on a nice outfit and hat with gold rings and a necklace.  She didn't look like the type of person that needed to be anywhere near a soup line so it caught Fratto off guard seeing her sharp contrast to the current surroundings of the dirty street, homeless and poor.

Fratto points to his chest, "Me?"
The stranger rolled her eyes and looked up into the sky as if to say "Why me?"
"Yes, you kid.  Get over here already...every day with these kids." The lady said to herself but loud, enough for Fratto to hear.
He walked over to her cautiously.  Being from Chicago he knew he needed to watch his own ass, especially in the new foreign land of Philly.

"You looking for work kid." She said before taking a cigarette out of her pocket and lighting it.  Fratto watched her take a couple quick puffs and answered, "What kind of work?" he said skeptically.

"Listen I got some work for you that's all that matters right?" She said rhetorically.
"Sure"
"Shut up I'm not done talking.  Listen, all I want you to do is go around the corner ther.  There's a of beauty shop down there on the corner.  I want you to stand in a doorway of the shop.  Don't turn around, don't do anything, except keep people out of the shop.  Think you can do that kid?"
"Yeah I guess so" Fratto said in a confused tone.
"Good now go and remember kid, not a single soul goes through that door."

Fratto walked down to the corny where the Beaty shop was and he stood in the entrance way with his arms crossed.  He looked inside seeing an old lady standing behind the counter.  He didn't see any other customers.  Fratto stood there for a few minutes until he heard a the lady's muffled voice through the doors.  He turned around seeing her talking to the old lady.  She was small, white hair with glasses.  She was wearing a grey dress with flower patterns on it. Fratto knew right then and there she was extorting the beauty shop.

Fratto turns his head back around, arms still crossed, just as an elderly woman came slowly walking up.  She looked quite similar to the elderly lady talkin to the the nicely dressed lady inside.

"Woah there lady you can't go in there." Fratto told her sticking his hand out in a stopping motion.
"What do you mean?  This is my sister's shop and I work here too.  You need to let me in young man I need to get to work"
"Not today grandma, get lost!" Fratto said in an aggressive tone to scare her off.  She didn't move an inch.  Instead after a quick stare down from the elderly woman whose expression had turned from sweet and kind to angry and terrifying.  She then took her purse and started hitting Fratto over the head with it over and over dazing him.  Fratto put his arms up to try and fend off the attack and it was about that time that he was also hearing the lady inside yelling, "Stop it!  You're crazy!" before bursting out the door.

The two elderly twin sisters although slow, were in pursuit, wielding a purse and a metal rod that you would hang a dress on, waving them in the air at them and shouting they couldn't understand.  Fratto and the lady ran side by side down the street for a few blocks before ducking into an alley way.  They ran around the corner at an intersecting alleyway to a black door where a homeless man was sleeping next to.  The smell of fecal matter, trash and booze was in the air.  Fratto and the woman were both panting with their hands on their knees.  They looked at each other and started laughing.

"You did good kid." She said to Fratto with a smile.  Fratto could tell she's been through a lot.  She had bags under her eyes possibly from some late nights. Fratto admired her outfit and jewelry.  "Thanks.  I like your outfit by the way."  She smiled again, "Thanks kid.  The name's Cadhla. Let me buy you drink."  She put an arm around Fratto's shoulder and they both went in and sat down at the bar for a few drink.  The woman explained to him about the streets.  Letting him know how dangerous the times were and told him that if he didn't have "people watching out for him, someone would watch out for him and kill him.".

Fratto had found himself about to be an associate to a crime family in Philadelphia known as, The Giunta Crime Family.  It was the beginning of something special he could feel it.  Most importantly, he wasn't in Chicago anymore...But he was beginning to feel at home again after everything he had been through, even though it was only his first day.  That day he felt pride and he felt like the luckiest guy in the world.  That was Fratt's big first day.

Fratto's pants were beginning to dry.

The last few days had been tumultuous to say the least. Furio entered the bar in desperate need of a drink. He made his way over to the bar. He noticed Cadhla and LouisFratto off to one side. Furio summoned a bar tender with a wave of his hand.

"My friends over there, they get whatever they want, send me the bill. I'll take an amaretto."

After receiving his drink he made his way over to Cadhla and Louis.

"I hear you're making swift progress, Louis. I look forward to seeing you grow and develop your... business. Listen to Cadhla here and you can't go far wrong. I look forward to seeing you around Headquarters and drinks are on the house!"

Fratto raises his glass and nods to Mr. Furio before he walked over to their side of the bar.  Fratto was growing more nervous with every one of Furio's steps.  Still weary from his upbringings in Chicago and the young street gang he used to run with, in this life criminal life that all those in the bar did share, their enemies came with smile.  As nice as he was there's always going to be that element of danger even from the ones you trust the most.

Yes sir.  Thank you so much sir and I promise to do my best to not let you or anyone else in our circle down.  Thank you for the opportunity to work for and prove my worth.  Cheers.  Fratto said then lowered his glass to take a drink."
