Limiting initial money transfers Started by: TheRaven on Jan 18, '12 08:49

I recently returned to mafia after about 3-4 years, and im sure this will have been brought up in those years, as it was when I was last here.

Call me old fashioned, but I believe a mafioso should have to earn his place, and therefore the entitlements that come with it e.g. Money. You see so many gangsters who are protected/well protected etc and this would simply not be the case. I propose that there be a cap on the amount of money transferable to players below the rank of earner.  I realise there is likely to be a lot of flaws with this idea, as there were when I was last here, and that it might not even be possible to code, but hey, just throwing it out there.

Report Post Tip

Wait a cap on how much they can transfer at one time or the total transfer amount?

e.g.
a) They can only transfer 30k, but they can transfer 30k after that and keep going.

or

b) They can only receiver 30k and after that they can not receive anymore outside money?

Report Post Tip

Total transferable amount, as otherwise they could just keep transfeirring smaller amounts as you said

Report Post Tip

this idea doesnt stop me from cashing in 200 credits at thug and getting bodyguards that way. your idea in theory is good, but there is always a loop hole

Report Post Tip

I still think this should be implemented it still does stop some random thugs getting to insanely well protected or some bull.

Report Post Tip

i doubt it would work. I'd bet that most of the IWP, or even WP thugs and gangsters you see, are showing up, and selling a shit ton of credits. the exception is gangster hands, which is a discussion i intend to start elsewhere.

Report Post Tip

you want to stop seeing IWP thugs? Start making BG's have the same strenght as the rank they are purchased. end of.

Not too many people would buy BG's at thug level if that BG had the health/stat of a thug?

Report Post Tip

I seem to have missed this one; Interesting point dutch! Its been a well discussed issue in this world whether or not the BG system should be altered. I feel having the Bodyguard reflect the cost would be a good idea.

The more it costs to hire a BG, the better equipped the BG himself is.

Report Post Tip

I agree with Dutch and it's a wonderful idea.

A Thug goes up to a high end unemployed BG. He would probably slap him round the head and tell him to do one.

You'd only be getting monkeys as you should only be paying peanuts. The higher you go the better quality of BG becomes available.

Thug 10HP Max
Gangster 20 HP Max
Goomba 30 HP Max
Earner 40 HP Max
Wise Guy 50 HP Max
Made 75 HP (as now trusted)
Capo 85 HP Max
Boss 90 HP Max
Consig 95 HP Max
Don 100 HP Max

Sure, because everybody knows that when you go to hire a bodyguard they ask what mafia rank you are first :/

In all fairness though, the price increase for each rank kind of implies they do that anyway, which never made sense to me. For example;

Thug : "Hi, I want to hire you."

Bodyguard : "Sure, what rank in the mafia are you?"

Thug : "Thug."

Bodyguard : "I'll only charge you 750k in that case."

Thug : "Does that mean you're not as good as the ones that Boss is hiring for 4.25 million?"

Bodyguard : "Nope. I'm just as good, but I charge less for no apparent reason."

As illustrated, this does not make much sense. Here's how I see the conversation going with a Boss and a bodyguard...

Boss : "Hi, I want to hire you."

Bodyguard : "Sure, what rank in the mafia are you?"

Boss : "Boss."

Bodyguard : "That will be 4.25 million."

Boss : "Wait, I have to pay more than that no-name thug over there? At least if I'm paying that much do I get something extra for my money?"

Bodyguard : "Nope."

Boss : "I worked hard to get where I am, unlike that fresh off the boat Thug over there. You insult me and my family by trying to extort me."

Boss shoots bodyguard in the face.

I would like to see bodyguard price a flat price across the board, taking an average between the current highest and lowest prices (0.75 mill and 5.75 mill). This would make all bodyguards cost 3.25 million, which I see as a fair price for someone who protects you with their life.

I have never hired or looked into hiring bodyguards in real life, but I would imagine that the more skilled the bodyguard the more you pay for them. However in this game I believe that would create too many factors and make it much too complicated, hence why I think that having one single price for a bodyguard is the way forward.

To the original post: I do not really like the idea. If the person transferring the money is sending over MILLIONS, they were obviously good friends of the thug's mother or father, bringing in the role play aspect. And people do give gifts.  Plus, this could effect cash prizes within competitions, a city's tax, or compensation owed to one.

To DeadlySin's post: I agree with this 100%, and while there are a few changes needed to better the BG system, I think this is one of the most important. I'd add to his idea, but I dont think I could say anything without repeating what's already been said.
