Lev Kirov sat shivering in the back of the produce produce van. The rain enveloped everything around him like a suffocating blanket. There was no thunder or lighting, just cold, unending rain. The roof of the van kept most of it out, but the fabric stretched across its bed was riddled with holes from neglect. Lev rested his rifle across his lap and hugged himself under his coat. His hair was matted and he'd given up trying to brush the water out of his eyes. His boss told him to sit there, all night if he had to, and watch the factory door about 200 yards away. What for, he had no idea, but if someone, anyone were to approach it Lev was to put them down. Lev was, by no means, a gangster. Not yet, anyway. He was just another Russian Immigrant in New York, but he hoped that if he kept his mouth shut and did a good job that one day he would be invited into "The Family". He didn't know if the Boss literally meant "anyone" was to be shot, but he wasn't going to be the one to screw up and let someone through the door who wasn't invited. He checked his watch. 11:44 pm. He'd been sitting there for nearly 5 hours now and hadn't seen anything move. Not even trash could get going in this weather. The rain was a deafening white noise all around him and he just wanted to close his eyes and drift off. "NO" he said out loud. "Cant loose focus". Not now, not ever! His ass was numb and it didn't matter anymore how he sat, everything was equally uncomfortable. He leaned against the inside of the fan and shifted his rifle to rest against his shoulder, pointing upward. "Just watch the door until sunrise. That's all I need to do." Now its your turn. What happens next? Lev is where I started it, but that doesn't have to be the real beginning. |
