They never told other cities what to do, or forced their will upon others.
Cough Cough*bullshit*Cough Cough.
Were you a New Yorker or Chicagoan by any chance? |

Id take Roman and Premeir every day all day over the dregs we see now. Seeing JessieJames die was the last straw to break the camels back. Going straight looks more and more promising every day. |

To be honest, I hate to have to agree that Roman brought stability. I have been asking some of my friends in light of recent events if we are only able to flourish under an iron fist. |

i honestly think sometimes the most unstable times are the most interesting otherwise things become so mindlessly repetitive i could train a monkey or one of miguel's goats to manage the tasks. Instability brings new leaders and a desire to keep your crews attention and loyalty or so i would hope. The less hard working a population the more important those stand out few become and cities suddenly look upon each other watching who's on the books as an associate or a family member.
See some people complain about too much war and then they complain about lack of change due to the same people at the top due to lack of action or blood line benefits; the true problem is just because someone survives a war or sets up doesn't always mean they are going to be qualified for the task or achieve what they thought the new position would do. Do we all suddenly down tools and become legitimate business peope coz the state of society or do we look round and see if and what we can change and how? |

Roman and Prem had to go - they totally abused their power.
However, the victory wasn't organised well.
Let's face it, after JJ took out Detroit, nothing was worth bothering about. |

At some point, the numbers DO NOT lie, it has been 3 months, and we've never recovered. People are leaving droves... Let's face it, you need... No, you WANT the bad guy.
Agreed, however you have not shown us any numbers! Stating that people are leaving in droves does not make it true. I don't see any difference, personally.
I also agree that people love the bad guy. This is one of the big reasons Roman was taken out. He wasn't a bad guy and things got ridiculously stale. Under Roman, life expectancies were at an all time high. This is not praise for Roman. It is a criticism. Mobsters like excitement. It's one of the biggest reasons we enter this life. If we want to sit around, hold hands, and live forever, we would all join a sewing circle.
People do, indeed, love a bad guy in power. Most of the time they hate to admit it, however. People reminisce about the days of -mrevilman, the ruthless takeover of the United Nations which left a puppet Boss of Uncle Nicky in every city, the periodic slaughterfests held by Ganelon, and the bloody rise to power of Anita which saw her hitsquad wipe out anyone who challenged her power. Having a bad guy in power gives us something to work for and a feeling of satisfaction when that power is overcome. |

MyAssHasTeethAndEats - You forgot BrianArao. Though I can understand why, his wasn't so much a reign the way the others were, but he certainly had a fairly big impact on This Thing of Ours with his rogue antics. |

BA is certainly a good example of how people look back fondly on a period of time marked by violence, when at the time they complained about his antics. He wasn't a very well liked man for some time, but these days people will look back and say "that was cool, huh?".
Every big power in Cosa Nostra has dissenters and people who complain about abuse of power or tyranny, but it never fails that these same individuals are remembered fondly as the years pass. Roman will be remembered with a "ho-hum", because there was very little excitement involved with his reign. |

I am not sure how you can say there was very little excitement during the Reign of Roman. During his life a considerable number of Godfathers fell, there were a number of wars but more than anything it brought about a level of stability previously unheard of. |

I'm not sure if I remember TheDean as much as I remember Deimne or even Thomas Rourke for that matter. |

It is interesting you say that when TheDean gave one of your ancestors permission to set up in Las Vegas. |

Yes, and Deimne did as well. So? I didn't say he was completely forgettable. Just not sure he is in teh same rank as Roman or Deimne. We can all have our opinions, right? |

As harsh as it sounds, its true. Roman and Deimne will be remembered for years to come, but that was because they were the figureheads. While im sure TheDean was an accomplished godfather, he didn't have quite the same level of publicity as those two. |

Roman was allowed to have his final run out of their friendship. Even after Roman had failed an attempt on TheDean. My first slip up on keeping one of the many secrets that were buried. That was just the way he was, he couldn't turn on those he considered his friends. Maybe to an extent that it could be seen as his greatest weakness. So what did it all boil down to that differentiated each of those individuals? They all stood up for what they believed in, they all fought tooth and nail for their cities and members. They each had a way about themselves that stood out from the rest. They each ran powerful cities. Like every era, there will always be a figure who dominated as Romeo had mentioned. New York has been a city fortunate to see leaders back to back produce such quality in both its members and leaders alike. ThomasRourke, Deimne, TheDean to every individual who poured endless time for the betterment of their cities and those around them. |
