| Black Friday and Memories | Started by: Breckie on Nov 30, '24 04:00 |

The New York skyline was bright in the cold evening. The temperatures were falling to around fifteen degrees. Coats were pulled a little tighter and scarves made their fresh return. Consumers rushed past one another to meet the Black Friday Deals they had read about in the paper. Each year, the deals from businesses were to offload many of their goods just before Christmas and then ring in the new year with plenty of new products. Discounting their items was a magical treat for many buyers including Breckie. As she hurried past with her good friend BellaPoarch she heard the slightest sound of the church bells from Saint Patricks Cathedral ring out. It stopped her. She had this memory of when she was a little girl going to church with her parents. Her parents who were involved with the bootleggers in Brooklyn were undeniably some of the nicest people you would have ever met. They were the kind of people that would loan you their coat or if you were in need they would be the ones to take you and drive you around. They did not start out as bootleggers involved in organized crime, that all came after the Great Depression. Originally, her father was an accountant and her mother stayed at home with the kids. Of course, the great depression meant that her father had to find other ways to make ends meet, and capitalizing on the prohibition market seemed to be the ticket. It took some convincing of his wife before she finally allowed it and when she did he figured he would have to get in right with the current people to learn the tricks of the trade. Her father was skilled with numbers better than most during his time. He knew that this alcohol thing would bring in major cash and would see his kids off to success. What he would not know is how that would become the furthest thing from the truth. The bells continued to ring and Breckie informed Bella that she would meet her at the Purse shop later. They were going shopping for some of the newer purses and handbags to see if anything would fit their nice mafiosa style. As Bella moved onward to the store Breckie made her way towards the Cathedral. Her eyes were stuck on the spires. She maneuvered around the busyness of all the shoppers and drivers until she found herself before the cathedral. It was monumental. Despite being there numerous times in her life, she had never felt so small. Perhaps it was a great reminder of how much of her life had gone wayward and not the way she was supposed to be. At one time her attending the Catholic school made her desire to grow up and be a teacher like so many great women she knew. Time would of course change that and the only thing she was teaching was the importance of keeping your promises. She remembered the first time her father brought home a strange-looking man. His suit was more colorful than others. He was what they referred to as a Made Man. Deeply involved with the mafia, he considered Breckies father to be running his drug-front property. This guy would come and make sure that everything was running smooth and in tip-top condition than he would come inside and have a nice coffee with her dad. They would often speak in another room where no one could hear. Even if they could hear they were often shut out to go outside to play or in another room altogether. Yet this one instance, Breckie found herself in range of the conversation. She listened intently and heard the mobster mention things like they were going to be rich and no one is going to stop them now. Breckie found herself uncertain about how she felt about this situation. She decided to move in closer when suddenly her mom caught her. Angered and embarrassed that her daughter was listening to a conversation she had no business listening to she sent Breckie out to go play with her brothers. Breckie inched closer to the doors of the cathedral. The doors were massive. Finally, she pressed in and noticed the numerous hats hanging from the roof. Her mouth fell open. The architecture and windows were nothing like she had remembered. It was all so vivid it was all so beautiful. She had stumbled in and noticed a concert was actually happening before her very eyes. Musicians from New York played a beautiful presentation in hopes of lightening the hearts of those in attendance. Many were preparing for Christmas by buying things for themselves and others, like that in the cathedral, were preparing for Christmas by listening to old hymns. Breckie sat back in a pew that really had no light shining upon it. She stared as the music went on and the memories continued to come back to her. There was one particular afternoon where she remembered that her and her father was driving back from some event. She looked out the window and many people were standing in line to get food. She saw other boys and girls also struggling. Her heart went out in pain for them. She looked over and her dad reassured her that times are difficult for everyone. She tried holding that to be true but she didn't understand how they could have a nice vehicle and yet so man could barely afford food to eat. Her dad's new business was thriving. He would go for weekends at a time up to Canada and drive all the way back. He was meeting with strange men all the time and often would find himself out on weeknights. Her mom was often left alone to raise the kids. Yet, they had everything they wanted, even their own batch of alcohol which her mom would often take to make the nights go quicker. One specific night Breckie found her mom sobbing in her room. Her mom cried out with this pain in her voice. Something was not right. Breckie remembered how she held her mom until the sun came up. Her dad never came back. As the concert neared its end Breckie stood up and began to walk out of the Cathedral. She was stopped by an elderly woman who wanted to invite her to come back to church the following week. Apparently, she knew of some really nice boys. Breckie smiled and said she was into women. The elderly woman looked shocked. Breckie pushed out of the Cathedral doors and wandered down to the purse shop. Spotting her friend Bella she rushed over to her and continued the shopping spree. Her memories continued to flood her. Perhaps New York will be different now that she is older. She looked back at the Cathedral and thought of the last time she saw her dad, the man who would be out all night engaging with mobsters. He abandoned his family and this was something Breckie could not forgive. Even at his funeral when she went out of pity for her siblings, she had no remorse for the guy that abandoned her. A few days later Breckie woke up from a strange dream. She thought about that night, the night when her father abandoned her family. He was showing signs of a growing distance from his family. Breckie began to wonder if this was intended to keep them safe so they would never experience any kind of harm on his behalf. She sat up and looked out her window. She saw a man playing catch with his two kids. She could not help but think that should have been her all those years ago. But it wasn't. She shot out of bed and put on her jacket. She looked over the map of New York and thought about who those criminals her dad would have been involved with. She studied the map and then after some time, she was able to narrow down a general area of where it may have come from. After a few hours, she contacted Koehler. Koehler was a leader of his own criminal organization. His rag-tag group of mobsters was certainly learning the ways and he had brought Breckie into his group as well. She had asked him what he may know of the history of New York, particularly within the last twenty years. A wealth of knowledge and historical accuracy, he flushed out all of his memories with simplicity until finally a name came flooding back to her. Mike "The Situation" was his name. The Situation was a Made man at the time but now he ran his own outfit. His crew is especially violent in Brooklyn and has been known for burning whole buildings with innocent people in them. Everything started coming together slowly for Breckie. She was starting to believe that perhaps it was The Situation that killed her father. Maybe out of business conflict or maybe it was out of jealousy. Whatever the case he did something unforgivable. She pressed Koehler and asked him if he could set up a meeting between the two of them. Breckie told Koehler all about how she realized that her father was only separating himself from the family because he got too deep and he needed to do something to keep his kids safe. She began to do the math and realized that he couldn't continue to expand that operation the way the Situation would have wanted it. So, he killed her dad and replaced him with someone he felt that could. She knew that if Koehler could organize a meeting as if she had some sort of proposition for The Situation she would easily befriend him until the right time occurred and she could take everything away from the man who killed her dad. |

A week or so had passed and Koehler had arranged a meeting with The Situation. Apparently, he was informed that Breckie was looking to make a move out of New York altogether and had some materials that would have been from her father which would benefit the Situation. Of course, this could have been something easily passed on by someone else. Breckie supposedly wanted to meet the Situation to say thank you for protecting her father after all those years. Of course, the Situation was not privy to the understanding his soon-would-be killer already possessed. She shut her lips and blew a kiss. Her makeup was a fine dark red. Like blood that would be spilled tonight, she said to her bodyguard. Her bodyguard was a man who was muscular and tall. He looked like a professional wrestler to many individuals. He was very careful to be at the side of Breckie whenever she was going out on the town. That was of course if she informed him. This time, he was made known of the Situation and that she was likely to "make her bones" as they said in the Cosa Nostra. Many people think The Situation was a regular criminal but he was not. In fact, he was undeniably one of the very worst criminals in New York. Starting with prohibition he found himself involved with sex trafficking as the years went by. He would find himself involved with various immigrant children as part of some welcoming committee and after parents were separated from their kids it was rumored that The Situation would then sell them off to high bidders of the wealthy class. Certainly taking out someone like The Situation was going to raise the alarm for the wealthy as they would look to cut off any trails to their involvement with his trafficking ring. Breckie was not too concerned with that. She was confident that would have no backlash on her or the Desolation of Eden. She walked down the stairs and stepped into the vehicle. Koehler and BellaPoarch were already sitting inside. Two vehicles turned their lights on and followed close behind theirs as they drove to the meeting spot. It was to be believed that as Breckie spoke with The Situation she would hand him a gift. As he would go to retrieve the gift she would take her right hand and use it to stick a blade in the jugular of her enemy. This would be her first hit and undeniably a quite violent one at that. Bella handed Breckie the blade. Breckie dropped it in her purse just behind the supposed gift. It was certainly a Trojan horse. But if it meant removing a criminal such as The SItuation from the streets she felt that it carried more honor than having a duel in the business districts. The car pulled up alongside the mansion of the Situation. Two guards welcomed them inside and once inside they began to pat down the men. Feeling that the women would hold no actual threat they allowed them to walk right into the study of the Situation. The study was filled with books that carried much dust. Not much of a reader more of a pretender was the vibe that stayed with Breckie. The Situation showed them where to sit and as soon as they did he began to speak the most exciting pleasantries about Breckies father. Breckies blood began to boil quite quickly. He mentioned how hard of a worker he was and how it was sad that he went so soon. The Situation never took ownership of the murder of her father but he clearly knew enough about it. She leaned back in her chair as he shared stories of her father and him and the early days of the criminal empire that The Situation once ruled. Breckie learned that, unlike her perceived experience, her father was the leader of a criminal organization and The Situation was his main hitter. She always thought he was being extorted for money but in reality, it was her father doing the extortion. Selling alcohol and having rival gang members put to sleep is how he conducted his daily life. Koehler shot a look at Breckie in almost disbelief. The Situation laughed obnoxiously loud. He was certain Breckie did not know this about her father. He leaned forward and whispered about how the demise of her father shook him to the core. Breckie stared right into his blank eyes. She found this utterly unbelievable. After an hour or so of the history lesson in the study and a few drinks, Koehler mentioned how now might be a good time for the gift as he had to get to another spot. The Situation looked up and smiled and informed him that he would not mind driving Breckie home personally. Breckie shuddered with disgust but her response was nowhere near as quick as Koehlers who told him that would be fine. Koehler began walking with Bella towards the exit and the Situations bodyguards walked with them out the door. The Situation called out to one of his bodyguards informing him not to come back in until he calls. The Bodyguard smirked and closed the door behind him. The Situation leaned closer to Breckie and put his hand on her leg. Breckie was half ready to kill him then and there. She decided to try and get one more piece of information out of the guy, the reason why. Breckie whispered to The Situation asking why he killed her dad. He leaned back in almost disbelief that she knew. She expressed that it was okay and she was past it. She just wanted to know why, especially before she left New York. The Situation began to share how his vision for the criminal world was not being met with the leadership of her father and because he had all the influence he needed to disappear. The problem was that only one way he could do that. Breckie nodded as if she understood. She pulled out the package from her purse. As she started placing her right hand underneath the package she slid the blade between her hand and the package. Concealing the blade from the Situation, she made a mention about how she hopes all good things come to him in the future. He smiled. As he put both hands on the package she held it tighter forcing him to do the same thing. She saw a few more false pleasantries. Releasing the package, the Situation held on tightly with both hands. Setting it on his lap with his eyes looking down he saw the shine of the blade too late. Breckie pushed the blade into the side of his neck. She repeated the action three more times. The Situation fell backward. A loud commotion was heard outside of the room. The two bodyguards awkwardly smiled at each other and one tried listening to the door. She pushed the blade several more times into his neck practically severing it. Taking the blade out she carved on the face of the situation the letter R and circled it. There was no open casket happening for him now. She stood back and took the package from his cold hands. She pulled her coat around her body and began to walk out of the doors quickly so as to not be seen. As she opened the doors she noticed the two bodyguards standing by the door. She smiled and informed them that he was asleep and said that he wanted them to take her home. They nodded and walked her to their vehicle. One of the bodyguards opened the backseat for her and the other immediately hopped in the driver seat. The two bodyguards never looked in the room of the study to see if their boss was truly asleep. As the car turned on, Breckie noticed the lights of another car turn on in the distance. She knew it was Koehler and Bella. She pulled out her snub nose. As the car approached the gate of the estate Breckie pulled her gun to the side of the head of the passenger and fired. The loud bang made the driver swerve. She then put the gun to the back of the driver's seat and fired five times. The driver gasped for air until he finally slumped over. She had just killed the man who killed her father. She had just killed the only two witnesses who did it. Koehler pulled alongside her. She hopped in the vehicle next to Bella. The car ride back to Queens was silent. She could not help but feel almost destroyed herself. Her emotions were running high. Did she do the right thing? Her heart would race all night. |
