The Midnight Syndicate Started by: Walter on Dec 04, '24 02:34
Following a day of tragedy and bloodshed, Walter walked the once bustling streets of Brooklyn, taking in the blood spatters and bodies being cleaned up off the streets. Walter wiped his brow, a mix of sweat and blood coming away as his chilled hand fell back to his side.

“What a fucking day.” He grunted to himself as he came to a stop, leaning against an old brick building now sporting fresh bullet holes. In a fluid motion, he removed the jet black cigar case he carried in one of the many pockets of his coat along with a lighter. With the quickly diminishing mobility in his fingers, he cut off the end the cigar and held the flame of his lighter to the freshly exposed tobacco until the end began to glow a deep cherry red. As he moved his hands to his lips, however, his car came to an abrupt halt before him, his man Jack wasting no time with calling out to Walter through the open driver side window.

“Boss man, Santo wants to see you as soon as you are able.” Jack stated.

Walter paused for a moment, taking the chance enjoy a long pull on the freshly lit cigar hanging from his lips before moving for the car before him, “Alright then, lets stop by home first, I need to clean myself up.”

After a quick shower and change of clothes, Walter found himself walking into Santo’s office, the whole drive from the house having been a blur as he was lost in his thoughts. Once the familiar scent of Santo’s off hit him, however, Walters attention was fixed back on the present.

“You wanted to speak with me, Santo?”

Santo gestured to Walter to take a seat before starting, “I did. I know it’s been a rough day for the city, hell the nation as a whole.” He paused, taking a seat across from Walter. “I know we all have some mourning to deal with, but truth be told, we have a lot of reparations to take care of at the same time. The least we can do for those we lost is carry on their legacy with us as we work to a more stable future.” Santo’s eyes locked on Walter’s now. “I’m going to need your help to make that happen. Should you accept, you will need to meet with Don Cadhla in Philly. There is where you’ll set up shop and help bring stability back to the city.” Santo leaned back in his chair, searching Walter’s gaze for his reaction.

With a single nod Walter responded after a moment of quiet contemplation, “I can be on the next flight over.”

“Very good.” Santo raised a glass that faintly reflected the warm light of the office, “To new beginnings.”

The next day, Walter found himself on a the very next flight to Philadelphia where he was greeted by Don Cadhla as he stepped off the plane. Walter removed his leather gloves and extended one out to the Don, “The names Walter, I’ve heard great things about you.” He stated, the chill of the morning air beginning to nip as his extremities.
“Cadhla, it’s a pleasure to meet you. I am sure Santo brought you up to speed on everything?” She asked as Walter’s men began filing off the plane behind him.

“He did. Seems we will be working close together. I regret we haven’t had much time for formalities, but I look forward to a long and prosperous working relationship between our families.” Walter continued as he turned to watch his men loading the car, “With your blessing, of course.” Walter turned to fix his gaze upon Don Cadhla once more, the red in his face from the chill accentuating his eyes of sapphire.

“We’ll have to toast to it properly soon, but of course The Midnight Syndicate has my blessing. I expect we will both have a prosperous future ahead of us, Walter.” Cadhla replied with a warm smile as she fixed her gaze upon Walter.

“Oh.” She began, pausing mid-turn to make for the warmth of her car, “Welcome to Philly!”
