"Kat! Are you even paying attention?" Simon asked.

Her head slowly turned towards the young man. He was dressed in his usual bartender garb. Blinking once, then twice she seemed to be able to focus on his face. His nose a little bent out of shape from a flying fist here or there. She had often wondered if he was worried that his place would be closed down. Letting her mind trail off again just for a minute...

"Girl, get your head out of the clouds." He commented and started to walk away just before she spoke.

"Where else is my head supposed to go Simon? To the bloody streets? I am surprised at how fast they cleaned the blood into the gutter and started to rebuild. Where was the humanity? The funerals seemed rather lacking, didn't they?"

"The bar has been full for days with people pouring the whiskey from their cups."

"Si, if they didn't like the whiskey or were planning to waste it, why even bother?"

Kat's gaze turned towards the others in the bar. There was one or two loitering but it seemed rather empty to her but it always did when she was not really present. Her mind wandered often as  if her thoughts had a mind of their own.

"Young girl, they are paying respects. You have much to learn around these parts, perhaps look for a mentor. You can always hold yourself apart and make a buck or two without drawing attention to yourself. Although attention always seemed to follow you around, even when you were younger."

With a sigh, Simon walked off. He knew it was best to let her think on his words in her own time. Pouring himself a drink, he settled on his stool behind the bar.

An hour later, Kat pulled herself out of her ghosts and demons to stand up. She grabbed the glass and brought it over to Simon.

"You win. I'll go out looking for that buck or two. Perhaps I will find it, or maybe I won't but I will try."

Before Simon could make a response, Katra had grabbed her coat and headed out into the snow to see what she could find.
