| Laying Low - New Identity | Started by: Svetlana on Jan 19, '25 22:17 |

Svetlana, the former Right Hand Man of the Famiglia Di Fantasmi had to change her name. She needed to shred her identity like a snakeskin, leaving behind the ruthless business woman persona and take on a new one of a successful art collector. Her new venture was just inside The Loop of the Windy City. After the raid on her previous headquarters and the retirement of her Don, she wanted to distance herself from crime in the South Side. Even though her art gallery was bought and paid for by her formal past, she couldn't help but to purchase a masterpiece of a building. Svetlana with her keen eye for talent and with her connections, helped her quickly establish a destination for art collectors. With her past not too far from her, she continued to get phone calls from previous associates which served as reminders of what she left behind in South Side. She had to continue this somewhat dual life while maintaining her facade of respectable art collector while trying to handle the remnants of her old life. One evening as Svetlana was preparing to close her shop, a familiar figure approached her. It was her cousin who she had helped setup when he migrated to the New World. Until this intrusion, she knew he had been doing well working the docks at the pier. Cargo freights came and went but were never inspected, which meant big business for anyone who was willing to pay someone off. "They're sniffing around, asking questions," he said as he continued to look nervous. "Who she asked?" And thats when it dawned on her. With LouisFratto no longer being the Don of South Side, Chicago, no one was running organized crime. No one was able to pay off the law or even judges to look the other way... it was definitely concerning. |

As Svetlana continued to listen to her cousin, she started to remember what the South Side of Chicago was like before the Famiglia had taken over its criminal activities. There were thugs and gangsters running the streets unorganized antagonizing whoever they ran into to. This way of life is about respect. If you don't respect your surroundings, then how can you ever successfully run a criminal enterprise? Having the help or aid even from your local citizens, could play a vital role to your organization... "The cops, they're looking into us since no one is paying them anymore", he answered. "Things are falling apart down there, no one is in charge, South Side is in chaos." She continued to listen to her cousin's worries but Svetlana wasn't sure what she could do. She was trying to lay low while learning her way legitimately with her art gallery. She was no affiliated with The Volturi, but their operations were only in the Loop. She was worried rival families or factions would attempt to seize control of the south. She had some thinking to do before she confronted her new boss, brent about this ordeal. |

"The cops were looking into us since no one is paying them anymore," really stood out to Svetlana. That was the problem. In the past, the police were easily bought and paid for but now they were a threat. Even with this threat, this was an easy opportunity... Svetlana began to formulate a plan that involved creating a back channel of discreet communication with the corrupted agents she knew who still had some sway down there. She figured she could offer them a solution to their "funding problems", in exchange for their cooperation. This would not only keep the police happy and their threat at bay, but also give her a crucial advantage over any rival factions. She would need a trusted friend who had deep roots in South Side who could navigate the treacherous waters of the underworld while remaining inconspicuous. Her gaze fell upon her new friend, Arianna was a new friend she had made since joining her new outfit in the Loop. Svetlana picked up her phone, she called her lady pal and explained that she needed to talk to her. The art gallery once a haven of tranquility, similarly to the baker shop she had worked before, now had a different energy. The air was different, the scent even had a different smell. It was different to her and no longer felt safe but more dangerous. Svetlana and her attempt to be an art collector was pretty much over. She was about to re-enter the world she tried to escape after her former Don had retired. This time however, she was just looking to see South Side flourish again and be a known territory. This time she wanted her friend Arianna to be its new queen. |

Arianna sank back into the plush cushions of her favorite armchair, her heart still racing from the exhilarating escape she had just orchestrated from the clutches of her guards. Sunlight streamed through the expansive windows of their new home, illuminating the room in a warm, inviting glow that wrapped around her like a comforting embrace. The soft hum of a nearby breeze rustled the leaves of the trees outside, creating a serene backdrop that stood in stark contrast to the turmoil she had recently left behind. Hearing her phone ring and wondered who could it be. Ari lifted the receiver and placed it to her ear "Hello there," |

Svetlana spoke to Arianna and informed her of her concerns. The way that South Side was being led by rival factions was really going to damage the overall organized crime in Chicago. If gangsters and wannabe thugs continued to run rampant and unchecked, it was only a matter of time before it reached the outskirts of the Loop. "I agree, things are chaotic down here with Zayne I just setting up", she admitted. One of the agents that Svetlana spoke to, knew the location of the local hoodlum's hide out. He said this rival gang was called Imperial Gangster. How fitting she thought as thats all they really, just gangsters and not career criminals. They just weren't organized and it was very detrimental to society. "Arianna, this could be dangerous but I think the only way to get rid of them is by taking out their hideout. Perhaps I can use one of my delivery trucks and just park it outside of their hideout. And in the morning...," Svetlana stopped short to ensure she didn't incriminate herself over the phone. "Tell me more," Arianna said. "Give the me details. Perhaps this is exactly what Zayne and I need to make our name known in South Side." |

Arianna sat upright, her heart racing as she snapped to attention, her teeth gently gnawing at her bottom lip. With urgency coursing through her veins, she snatched a pen and a weathered piece of paper, eager to jot down the crucial details tumbling through her mind. The shadows of her past loomed large, and she felt a fire igniting within her; ever since Zayne had discovered her huddled in that desolate hotel, she had been plotting to rid herself of the gangsters who hunted her. |
