”In the papers they refer to my boss as the Devil.” Frank says as he wipes the sweat from the bridge of his nose. It was a more humid than average night and the heat from the oil lamps that littered the room weren’t helping the matter. “They say that any man who orders the killing of another man has a special place waiting for him in hell.” Franks demeanor lightened as a grin runs across his face. “But they don’t know the whole story. They don’t, no, better yet, they won’t understand the whole picture. They should be relieved a piece of shit like you is off the streets. Better yet, they should understand that just because a man is ordered to be terminated doesn’t mean the one who carries out the task has to enjoy it so damn much.” Franks smile and expression appears a bit more demented now as he turns toward the unconscious body tied to a chair behind him. The man, barely visible from the lamp light has no choice but to play personal audience to Frank. “See, the man who gives the order has his reasons. A purpose, if you will. Because some piece of human garbage such as yourself steps out of line, does something they’re not supposed to and BLAM! Your life was over before you had a chance to have a regret. That’s just how this business works isn’t it? We are all subject to the same rules after all. They’ll never understand that from the outside looking in.” Frank trails off a moment as he continues to sharpen the blade of the knife he holds in his hand. “But me? I see you for the piece of shit you are and don’t even have to know the reason why the order was given. I just understand it exists.” Frank leans his head to the right, staring at the figure of the man held captive to the chair as he places the sharpening utensil back down on the table he stood over previously. “The real evil here is the one that’s told someone has to go and without question follows his command. The real evil is the man that can go to sleep at night knowing the heinous acts he’s carried out. THE REAL EVIL HERE IS THE MAN WHO IS TOLD WHO BUT TAKES PRIDE IN THE HOW!” Frank collects himself as he strides forward, closer to the man tied and slumped over in the chair. “If any man be the devil, that man is me Mr. De Luca. Or would you prefer I call you Carmine? Oh well, I don’t guess it really matters does it?” Frank speaks rhetorically as he steps in front of the man and bends over so that his face is next to his. “When you get to hell” Frank whispers “Let them know the Devil sent ya and to save a place for me” Frank speaks through a diabolical smile as he stands back erect and pulls the head of the man back by his hair and with one swift motion pulls his blade across the man’s neck. The demented smile on Franks face turns to an annoyed scowl as he wipes the blood from his blade onto the rubber bib apron he had over his clothes. “A heavy bleeder. Unfortunate.” Frank spoke over the few remaining gargles of the victim. Frank walked back to the table and placed the knife down upon it before removing the rubber bib apron and turning back to the man who now was quiet. “I really wasn’t wanting a messy clean up tonight but alas it’s part of the job.” He spoke as Frank walked over to where he kept a large area rug rolled up and grabbed it. “I promised Mama I’d be at mass in the morning and you know how she hates to be disappointed.” Frank spoke as if the man knew him let alone his mother. With a slight groan Frank lifted the area rug up and laid it on the bare concrete floor, allowing it to unroll from where he now stooped as it smacked into the front legs of the chair which housed the now deceased. “You know that I cannot disappoint mama. I guess this is why they say there’s no rest for the wicked.” Frank chuckles as he seemingly finds amusement within the annoyance. Frank picks up the knife from the table once more and strolls over to where the limp, lifeless body of the man sits. “You see that fancy rug there? When your crew finds your body it’s going to be all chopped up in there. And if I’m honest it’s probably better funeral decor than you deserve but it happened to… fall of a truck… and I’m a sucker for a good bargain!” Frank smiled slyly as he began to cut the man’s lifeless body free of the ropes that bonded it to the chair. With the last stroke of his blade Frank tipped the chair forward causing both man and chair to fall into the area rug with a sickening thud. “It’s almost like second nature! Look-y there! I knew when I saw it that you’d love it!” Frank laughed as he spoke and headed back toward his rubber bib apron. Frank slid the rubber bib apron back over his head and took gloves from the table and slipped his hands into them. First the right, then the left. He closed his eyes to put himself into complete darkness. A state Frank was all too familiar with. Opening his eyes again Franks eyes adjusted once more to the room through the flickering of the lamp light. “When they find you the message will be well received.” Frank spoke confidently as he turned back toward the man, picking up his knife as he did. “The papers, the papers will say my boss is the Devil. But you, you know now first hand he’s not the one they should be afraid of.” Frank grinned his demented grin as he looked down at the man and took his first step forward. |
