Stop people cut and pasting the same fucking jobs. Started by: ManScrapper on Feb 04, '25 11:29

Honestly, leadership should involve a little originality and effort, something that is incredibly lacking these days.

We do not put up with duplication in the forums, why do we put up with it on the job boards?  (I get that you don't really get XP from jobs but you do get members, sometimes hardworking, which used to be an important consideration for any would be leader.)

The Ligambi's are the biggest culprits on this, though there are others that just copy/paste and literally make zero effort to come up with something engaging for the newer players to interact with.  I mean, we get that none of them care and the current regime is a case study in doing literally nothing but purging people over and over but I feel this would be a welcome addition.  If you want new members, make a fucking effort you gobshite oxygen thieves.

I am no coder, but I don't see it being too difficult to throw a check mechanism in to stop this shithouse approach from our so called "leaders".

Happy to be shut down, you may commence.

I am in favor of this - we don't let people copy posts/threads so why should you be allowed to copy jobs?

Report Post Tip

Pissy vitriol notwithstanding, I agree in principle, but I've never been huge on the job board existing to begin with. Even in the best of days, it has never really achieved its intended goal in helping nurture new players. Copy and pasted, or hastily-thrown together jobs are just a symptom of a system that has never been bought into in the first place. For a userbase that has a healthy amount of folks who already know where they're going to wind up after they die, the extra effort is meaningless - and the unicorn, discerning (new) user who is going to have a make-or-break decision on the quality of jobs? They're a very small exception to the rule.

A task-based system similar to the hustle feature that can give a new user a roadmap to learning the features of the game, unlocks  rewards on its completion, (mailing a sponsor, a crewleader, whatever) and can be custom-made by sponsors to continue the user's learning journey once they're in the crew would be the way to go, imo.

Can we extend this to lazy Family Intro / OOc intro

Again Ligambis are really bad for just reusing

The level of effort (Or lack of) from experienced players is absolutely shocking.

Spike peeks out from under a city trash can.

Hello there, can you help me get this off my shoe? It would seem that I have stepped in gum, but no matter how much I try to scrape the sole on the sidewalk, it just won't come off. Here's a fork I found.

Spike holds out the fork, and a few dollars in return.

Thank you. Let me know if you're looking for more serious work than this.

Spike skips off into the moonlight.

The follow up mail was spectacular.

hello

If I were a new player to this game trying to role play as a gangster I would be baffled & click the log out button.  Pathetic. Nil points.

Report Post Tip

At a time where posting is pretty much at an all time low. People are persecuted for being active posters. Very recently, blaming "fake info" (which they magically knew 10 minutes after the shot that it was fake, somefuckinghow?) the top two posters in the VIP list have been shot. For no reason clearly. Apart from persecuting the people who are trying to breathe some life back into the streets and the business districts.

On top of this, the ones killing the activity of the forums are pathetically copy/pasting the same jobs. A role playing game, in which the "people at the top" can't even put together 3 paragraphs to take the honour of being a Crew Leader. What has this game become.

As you stand looking at the long soup line, you hear your stomach growling. Hunger had a way of making someone swallow their pride and take a hand out. It isn’t like you wouldn’t work if there was any work available, but there was nothing except even longer unemployment lines.

When was the last time you ate anything? A day… maybe two. It was when that hobo offered you that meat kind of thing. He did not say what it was and you did not ask.

Your stomach rumbles again and you are about to go get in the line, when a man comes up beside you. He is a rather rough looking man with a scar on his left temple that runs down a good inch or so. In a gruff voice he said, “You can go get in line for some soup or you could be eating steak tonight. Which would you prefer?”

You look at the man in disbelief. Nobody could afford a steak these days, especially a guy living on the streets. “Who would I have to kill?” you ask jokingly.

“Nothing like that,” the man replied. “I just need you to deliver this package to the address written on the outside of the envelope. The guy who answers will give you a hundred dollars as long as the package has not been opened.”

You consider what might be in the package and then decide you could give a rat’s ass about what might be in the package so long as you did not have to eat a rat’s ass again tonight.

“I’ll do it.”

Squishy I'd like to have a word when you're free thank you.

This is one of those things where the standards are set by the leaders.

The leaders determine the standards by having self pride in what they do/create.

When there is no self pride, they look at their peers and see what they do.

When their peers have no pride, the bar is set by the majority.

The bar is now the lowest standard they are allowed to get away with determined by the action OR lack of action by the majority.

You are part of the majority.

If your crew details/jobs are not up to your standards, then move a crew that maintains standards worthy of having you. Constructive criticism can go a long way to shaping something better.

(I'm not trying to be an asshole, I'm trying to point out that this game is an open canvas that lets players play how they choose.  I don't think its fair to anyone if I judge people based on if they are a wordsmith or not, on something that isn't exploitable for rewards like posting is.  I am not in these crews, I do not know if they are different families who are lazy and just copy and paste, or if they are members of multiple organizations that operate under one charter.  I don't want the site to be 1000000 micro rules to compensate for people who are unwilling to create/enforce/live by societal standards. But imagine if people actually walked the walk?  Imagine being the driver in your own game experience rather than just a temporary backseat passenger?  Imagine being in a family who works hard to build something that you want to be a part of.  Why would you be anywhere else?)

I’m sorry but no squishy. The leaders don’t lack accountability because the users at large are the problem, they lack accountability because the admins aren’t holding them accountable. Don’t deflect blame that rests on your shoulder. You’ve made it very clear, every time this regime has broken a rule it’s our fault. The line is getting old, enforce the standards.

Report Post Tip

If jobs and crew description are not set up, the crews don't function right is that still a thing?

CLs are gaming the system by reusing jobs and crew descriptions and that's just as exploitative as stealing someone else's thread or posts.

Maybe it's not a bad thing if people who aren't wordsmiths or are feeling lazy weren't Crewleaders on a text based Mafia rpg

Say what now?  What rule has been broken? Where have I made it very clear that every time this regime has broken a rule its your fault? Please use specifics?

I am literally asking for users to come up with list of standards in the other thread, I really look forward to all your input there to fully express how you feel it should be done, because as of now I have not the slightest clue what your anger is aimed at, or where there is a rule anywhere about jobs not being pre-written?  Hey, there is a chance in my old age I am forgetting a rule about it and unable to find it, forgive me if I am calling out your extreme hyperbole if your reply shows otherwise.

The crews do not get the crew bonuses if the things that make you a crew are not completed.

You and I both know that the game has functionality to deal with unoriginal content and its ok as long as you are not rewarded for it.  You toggle off the rewards for that text by putting it in blockquotes so to classify it as exempt.  There are no rewards for having jobs that were typed from your own fingers 3 minutes ago, 3 days ago, 3 months ago, 3 years ago, 3 characters ago, or if you had them professionally crafted by someone in marketing and brand building, and even if you had Mario Puzo, Lorenzo Cacaterra, Joseph Pistone, Selwyn Raab, Darhower, Pileggi, or any other professional mafia author write it specifically for you.

Where do we stop next?  Am I getting the vibe that we need to execute people who use the default profile picture?  Ban people who use a username like Don Corleone? Jail people who choose to use 200w x 250h images? This is such an odd hill to die on to be honest.

The community has never reflected this, you say this often in main as well and Its hard for me to wrap my head around why. From my experience This community has never held leaders to standard. You have specific players or groups doing that. The avg player in your community has no idea what is even going on, in regards to the political side of things let alone war.  As much as you may or may not agree with this it is fact that those players make up the majority on here. Not the guys building 30 a day not the people with billions in credits but Joe Schmo who has no idea what's going on because he was never taught how to play. From my perspective it all trickles down from leaders. Great leaders help create great players. Shit leaders help create great followers. A follower is great when he has no idea the location he is going, how can we blame them when that is what they were taught.

Just realized that had nothing to do with the original topic please disregard.

Report Post Tip

Lacking originality and using default pictures and generic famous Mobsters is not the same thing as intentionally copying and reusing someone else's crew introductions or jobs.

Are you honestly happy that three current leaders are all using the same jobs and introductions?

The reason they do that is to quickly gain access to the crew bonuses and be able to start inviting. It is gaming the system.

And I'm also not suggesting to execute: merely standards should exist to stop the blatant copy and pasting and no effort crewleading
