Monella sat behind his desk, cigar in hand, looking over his two closest allies, Joseph-Clemente and Daniel_Provenzano, his first day as Boss was in full swing, and he was ready to lay down the foundation of what his crew would stand for.
"Alright," Monella began, looking each of them in the eye, his voice steady but firm, "I need you two to know where I stand on this, we don’t have many rules, but the ones we have are the ones I care about, the first? Don’t be a dick, I’m not interested in drama, personal beefs, or someone trying to make a name off of screwing over the family, keep it clean, keep it fair, and we won’t have issues." Joseph-Clemente nodded, "I like the sound of that." Daniel_Provenzano exhaled a slow puff of smoke, "Simple and effective." "Exactly," Monella replied, "The second thing, promotions, this is where it gets important, we need to make sure people know why and how things are happening, no one should be left in the dark about their standing, we’ll have biweekly meetings to keep things clear, we’re a family, not a hierarchy with people constantly guessing who’s next." He paused, allowing his words to settle in, before standing up, "Alright, let’s get down to business, I’ll call Abe in now, I want to introduce a profit-sharing scheme, it’ll keep everyone invested in the long run." He turned and gave a nod, signalling for his Jewish accountant, Abe, to come in.
Minutes later, Abe shuffled in, his face lined with years of experience managing gang finances, he set his ledger on the desk and adjusted his glasses. “You you needed me?” Abe asked. “Yeah, we’re gonna start a profit-sharing system, thirty percent of all weekly donations will go into a pool, but here's the deal, only those who contribute 10% of the total weekly donations will get a share of that 30%, simple, right? No one's gonna freeload, and the hard workers will see the rewards.” Abe nodded, scribbling some quick notes on his ledger, “That works, kid, keeps everyone motivated.” “Make sure the numbers add up and keep it clean, I’ll want a report every week, no exceptions.”
As Abe turned to leave, Monella’s eyes lingered on Daniel_Provenzano, who had been quiet during the discussion, Monella leaned back in his chair, a thought brewing in his mind.
“Hey, Daniel,” Monella called, his voice quieter, more personal now, “Hold up a second.” Daniel_Provenzano turned and walked back over, his curiosity piqued, “Whats up boss?”
“I’m thinking about how we keep people engaged, keep them motivated, w e need to have a rewards system for the crew, not just about money, although that’s always nice, but about recognition, if people are stepping up, we need to reward them, maybe some extra bonuses, special responsibilities, something to keep them on their toes, thoughts?”
Daniel_Provenzano smirked, his eyes narrowing as he considered the idea, “You’re talking about more than just cash bonuses, right? Maybe a little recognition, a ‘Best of the Week’ type deal?”
“Exactly,” Monella said, “We make them feel like part of something bigger, something that isn’t just about getting paid, a family that stands for something, and I’m gonna need you to help with that.” Daniel nodded, “I got it, Boss, I’ll set something up.”
With that, Daniel left the room, and Monella was left alone in his office, staring out the window, the weight of leadership had been heavy on his shoulders for the past 24 hours, but he knew this was just the beginning. He didn’t know how long this would last, but he’d do his best to honour the principles he believed in, and, for now, that would have to be enough. |
