The threat from the South Started by: Luciana on Mar 08, '25 13:35

Lucy was taking a nap in her apartment on a Saturday afternoon when she was suddenly awakened by a loud phone ring. Despite not wanting to get out of bed and answer, she did so as to finally shut it up.

"Lucy's apartment here. If you are a salesman or the IRS I am not interested."

"Lucy. This is agent Stanley. Listen I am gonna be brief. We need to talk... Tonight. Meet me behind the Celtic Social Club at 11pm. It's important." said the voice from the other end.

"If this is about your units it can wait."

"No. This is something much deeper. And it absolutely cannot wait."

"Fine. I'll be there."

Lucy puts the phone down and quickly jumps back to bed, hoping for no more interruptions. The time passed, and soon enough it was 11pm. Lucy was on time, as always. She stared at her pocket watch, 11:10. She couldn't stand people that were late.

As she was starting to lose her patience, all of a sudden, she felt something get shoved against her back. Her eyes widened, as a drop of sweat dripped down her temple.

"Let me see hands." A deep voice from behind her whispered.

She complied as she slowly raised her hands while scanning the area for ways to escape. But it was no good. She was at the mercy of whoever was behind her. And they both knew it.

"So... You don't pay taxes, do you?" the voice said.

"I-I-I pay taxes!" she said.

The person from behind her burst out laughing as they gave Lucy a light shove and holstered their gun. Lucy slowly turned around to reveal Stanley.

She let out a sigh of relief as her heart rate slowly returned to normal.

"I swear you do that again and I'll do more than just fire you."

"'I-I-I pay taxes!' hahaha! Oh my god what a sight!" Stanley said, still laughing.

"Are you done mocking me? Why did you call me here this late? What's so important that it just couldn't wait?"

"Ahh... Right... Down to business." Stanley said, now with a serious tone, as his smile faded away.

He pulled out a picture of a nicely dressed bald fat man in his 50s with a long beard and gave it to Lucy.

"Who is this?" she asked.

"That my friend... That's Dogan. Biggest coke smuggler in Mexico and the biggest threat in all of South America."

"OK? And why are you showing me his picture? He's not my problem."

"See that's the thing. He's about to be a problem for all of us. You, me, your mutual friends and everyone who ever touched coke in this country. Because he's got plans. Plans to expand. And he's not stopping for anyone. You get my drift?"

"I think I do... Well it's ok I'll just get some backup from my crew and we'll deal with him."

"What part of 'the biggest threat in all of South America' did you not understand?! This guy has an army of goons armed to the fucking teeth. If you want to take him down you'll need to do better than that."

"You are forgetting that we are not in South America. This is US soil. If we don't get him, the DEA or FBI or someone from the alphabet boys will."

"Way ahead of you. He's done deals with politicians, agents and even a couple of departments. I am telling you this guy is gonna be a problem for everyone."

"Alright alright... Jesus... Let me think."

Lucy stood silent scratching her head for a few minutes, thinking of a plan.

"Do you know which city he's gonna hit first?" she asked.

"I am not sure yet but there's been talk of him going for... Detroit."

"Shit... OK. I'll need you to get the word out. All cities that have power should be made aware. Philadelphia, New York, Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Chicago. We are gonna need as much help as we can get. Whoever is on board, have them call my apartment."

"You got it. Should I contact Tyler Durden too?"

"Psh. Fuck that guy. I hope Dogan goes for him first."

"Hehe alright then princess. I'll do my best." He said as he made his way to his car.

"Oh and Lucy... Please be more aware. I can't even begin to describe how easy it was to sneak up on you."

With that, Lucy was left alone in the cold dark alleyway. She looked around, hoping she wouldn't see anyone that could have possibly heard the conversation before looking at the stars, wondering whether she should light a quick one or not. As much as she'd like to, the Detroit streets were not gentle and she knew that, so she slowly walked towards home, with every breath she took she got increasingly more nervous, thinking of what to do if someone knocked on her doorstep in the middle of the night.

SOME OOC TALK:

I think I have made it crystal clear that anyone can jump in this story. Your rank or position does not matter, as long as you are in a crew and follow these 2 rules:

1. Please, do NOT hijack other mobsters's characters. You are only allowed to control your own and maybe some NPCs if you'd like.

2. Do not abruptly end the story. Let it go on. Not saying you're not allowed to have the final word though.

I've been seeing a lot of this lately, mostly number 1, so I thought I should make it clear.

Logen had been busy these last few days. He had rather large shoes to fill and he he was quite determined to do his darndest to do just that. As he crossed the threshold to his home, he locked the door and dropped the brass casings from his pocket to the table at the door as one of his men rushed over to collect them for disposal. Logen nodded at the burly man as he continued on up to his office where he was met with a short stack of paperwork. He sighed as he unslung his pistol, hanging it on a dark oak tree behind his desk  accompanied by his blazer before taking his seat to face the stack.

"Easily the worst part of this job..." He grumbled to himself as he set to sifting through the various contracts relating to the renovation of his inherited shop.

Logen could be sure just home much time had passed, but he knew he had burned through at least three cigars before there was a knock at the doors to his office. He took in a sharp breath having been ripped from his concertation at the sudden sound. Composing himself, he sat back in his chair, taking one more puff of his cigar. "Come in" He shouted across the room, prompting a slender man with jet black hair to push through the heavy doors.

"Ah, Jack. What have you got for me?" Logen asked, releasing a relaxed sigh this time as the man approached, dropping an envelope before him. Logen met Jack's gaze with raised eyebrows, silently inquiring.

"Someone associate to a Stanley dropped this off. Said they were working on behalf of Luciana. Time sensitive, apparently." Jack stated shortly, looking from the letter to Logen. His eyes softened a tad as he took in the spitting image of his late employer.

Logen broke his eye contact with the man before him as he nodded in understanding. "Well then, lets see what's so time sensitive, shall we?" He asked rhetorically as he reached for the letter and ripped it free of the plain envelope. His eyes scanned over the neat scrawling, his eyebrows pinching together as he took the information in. He sat back once more and tossed the letter back onto the desk, gesturing to Jack to have a read.

"What do you know about a Dogan? South African coke kingpin?" Logen asked as Jack took the information in. He noted Jack's shift in demeanor as he set the letter back down.

"He's not been a huge risk to us as he's kept to himself in south America for a long time. Hell, he pre-dated your father." Jack started before he took one of the seats across the desk. "I know enough to say if this letter is even remotely true, this is indeed time sensitive. A move made from him will come with a lot of bloodshed if not met with a coordinated front." He finished as his eyes drifted back to the black ink upon the letter.

"Hmmmm... that bad huh?" Logen pondered as he fixed his gaze on Jack. "You think this could really happen?"

"I wouldn't want to chance it either way. Dogan is ruthless and will stop at nothing to get what he wants. If there is even the faintest chance he's moving on Detroit, we should be prepared. This will spread to the nation as a whole if left unchecked." Jack stated, a heaviness to his words.

Logen sat there for a long moment, taking Jack's words in as he took another pull of his cigar. "Alright." He said finally, breaking the tense silence. "I'll send word over to Soul_Hooligan. Get our men ready. I'll make the call." He finished, setting his cigar in a glass tray on his desk. Jack waisted no time standing with a quick nod at his words. As he closed the door behind him, Logen could hear shouting begin to fill the house accompanied by rushing footsteps.

Logen reached for his phone and dialed the number mentioned in the letter.

"It's Logen of the Mad Hatters...."

It was a rather peaceful and beautiful morning in Detroit. The weather was nicer than usual, the streets were a little emptier because most people were at work. Some would take the opportunity to take a walk and enjoy this rare site. But others... Were at home. Paranoid.

The silence in Lucy's apartment was broken by a gentle knock on the door. She immediately jumped from her seat and grabbed her gun.

"Open up miss boss lady. It's me." Stanley said from the other side.

Lucy opens the door to let him in, peeking left and right to see if there was anyone around before closing the door.

"So... Any calls come in yet?" Stanley asked, grabbing an apple from the fruit bowl.

"Logen from the Mad Hatters." she said.

There was a moment of silence as Stanley expected more.

"And?..."

"There is no and. That's it."

"Oh... That's rough." he said, taking another bite.

"The good news is that Dogan hasn't made any moves... yet. At least not that I know of."

"Well... It's gonna take a little more firepower to take him down. You know that don't you?"

"Yes, but my hands are tied here. It's not up to me."

"You're not wrong there toots. But don't worry, I'm sure your fellow workers won't let little shits like Dogan slide. So hey... Keep your head up." Stanley said in an attempt to cheer her up.

"Well... I'd love to stay and chat about the nice weather but I have work to do. Give me a call when you are ready to take the next step." he said, making his way out of the door.

As the door closed, Lucy was alone once again. She sat back on a chair by the phone, placing her gun next to it and awaited for the sound that annoyed her just the other day, to annoy her once again.
